No it just means more people will pay the £7 per box charge then. More of an attractive package to encourage people to sub to it.

Don't have the excisting HD channels just have the new ones from now on for example of your £7 you'd get Sky sports 1 and 2 HD, Sky Sports news HD, Sky 1 HD, Hallmark HD, ESPN America HD etc.

You'd have 2 HD packages then the free one whats avaiable now and the £7 per box premuim HD package.

Hmmm.. I am not easily confused normally but the way Virgin bundle things together has certainly got me confused this time..

I am a Virgin customer with 20 meg broadband, XL TV, phone landline as well. The XL TV gives me all the premium channels in SD already right? When I go to the Virgin HD sign up all I see are a number of different premium packages (SS1 on its own, SS1 2 and 3, movies etc..)

All I want to see is a box that says "Charge me £7 for an HD upgrade".. As I already get the premium packages in SD with XL why is it asking me to buy various package options again at £34.50??:erm: Does this mean I will be charged another £34.50 or will it just be £7?? I am not a buffoon.. Honest, but all I want is the link to upgrade my existing XL package with the £7 upgrade.. Surely it is simpler than it looks.

I too think they should now charge for all the previously free HD channels, hopefully the free customer services number will also be changed £5/min and the free tv catch up will be charged per progam....

Then I can get a second job to pay for all the free stuff that is no longer free and have no time to watch anything on virgin cos I'm always at work earning the pennies to pay for it! Damn I can't believe I didn't think of this first..... :eh:

Same here, I explained that XL/VIP customers saw no reduction in the price for sky sports when other packs did, she siad they are taking on board all the comments they are receiving in particular from XL/VIP customers.

I find it incredible that people are saying Sky offer more HD channels for the £10 than Virgin for the £7. Virgin charges NO EXTRA for XL customers for any basic HD channels(included in Sky's chargeable package). Sky clearly is subsidising the premium channels by charging for HD. Sky want to destroy their competition so they can have a monopoly. They could charge what they liked then. Can't believe people are now threatening to go to Sky who started all this HD charging.

It does say if you already have the premium in SD then just select the pack you currently have (i.e. sports and movies) and they will just add the HD channels for £7 to your existing SD channels.

Pick the options for the full Sky Sports and Movie package. As £27.50 of the £34.50 is already on your account it will only increase by the £7

There is no way to charge for the SD premiums twice.

They're filmed on film though, which can be remastered to HD easy enough as you can get a far higher than HD resolution out of film.

Sky do not broadcasts them in HD yet.

But I see on DS that Sky Movies Classic HD is launching on Sky on August 9th - no news on if Virgin will also carry this channel from launch.

I hope so big red,The only way people can show there disgust regarding the new price structure is thru forum sites and all you are accused of is moaning.I understand that vm have tried to do what they promised and get as many HD channels as they can i congratulate them for that,But they have massively devalued there top packs xl+vip and now all of a suddenly there HD price is only £3 behind Sky`s.What incentive is there to stay with them now,At the moment none.

Definitely sounds like they're seriously looking at the VIP pack, I've also had someone from the CEO office get back to me and say they're waiting on information on new charges for the VIP pack and will let me know once they've received the information.

I have just read my email and i am pretty discusted tbh,i have been with virgin for 10 years i left last year to go with sky hd with the promis to myself i would return to virgin when they receved hd.
I phoned virgin last month to explain i would me leaving sky cause of this reason they gave me a very good deal 2 hd boxes,50meg broadband,and xl phone.
I phoned sky they offerded me 6 moths half price tv a saving of £24 and another free hd box sounds like a good deal untill they wanted another £10 for the extra hd subscription.
I told them no way thats teriable there should just 1 cost per house hold there are rumours on a differnt forum that sky could drop the hd cost.
Now my point is i have now recived news that it will cost me £14 extra a month for the hd channles which 1 is only £6 cheaper then skys.2 sky still offer more hd channles and also sky include the 3d channle in the hp package which is handy when i have a 3d tv.
So i have writing to the complaints deparment as retiotion's could not do nothing to help me and if i dont get a saitisfactory answer i will leave virgin as i only had it renstalled Sat.
I understand they might be a charge but mabey £5 for the hd channles per account if your on xl tv would be fair so im waiting for a reply now.:mad:

With regards to VIP, and this is just purely speculation on my part, either the price for VIP will come down or it will stay the same and they will improve the package (free preimium HD, 50mb broadband maybe), or they may improve the package and increase the price slightly (£5)

But as I said, this is all just speculation on my part.

That it still uses the legacy £10 a month charge for V+ is simply shocking.

Personally I don't think they'll add XXL BB to VIP, the cost of modem switchouts would be far too high. I think they'll drop the £10 a month for V+ from it, and add the premium HD for free (effectively cutting £17 off the current cost) and then add a new tier of VIP, VIP+ or something that includes XXL BB at around about the current VIP price point (or £2 cheaper, -£10 V+ fee, +£8 XXL BB).

That'd go a long long way to restoring the value of VIP (whilst still providing less of a saving than it did when it first launched) and I think would stop the current complaints.

I just have one quick question on this £7 charge, being on a retention deal will the sky sports HD upgrade effect it?

I was offered once a bundle which to me meant a broadband upgrade to 20mbits, but when I asked CS they said if I upgraded it would mean losing my retention deal:confused:

I Have a Question about Sky Premuim channels. Im a XL Customer on Virgin Media and I have Got V+ HD Box and I have Got Sky Sports and Sky Movies I Pay £27.50 a month for those channels. Do XL Customers Have to Pay £7 a Month for Sky Sports HD 1 and HD 2 and Sky Movies HD Channels?. would somebody help me find out please?.

Yep an also i have just noticed a gap between sky sports HD 2 on 517 and British Eurosport on 521 , maybe making way for sky sports 3 an 4 HD soonish heres hoping lol :D

There is also a gap or two in the numbers for the sky movie HD channels , maybe Sky movies classics HD launching August 9th will fit in their when it launches.


And there still seems to be testing going on from channels 888 to 892 but maybe this is still down to sky sports/movies testing. However there was 12 channels testing now theres just the five.


So any one got any info on the above. :)

Sky may have forced a price,But VM are the ones who decided to except it.Clearly VM were more focused on selling the tv side than getting a good deal on the hd for there customers.Makes a mockery of the stance they took last time when sky tried to hike the price,stating it was for the good of there customers.They certainly didnt care this time:(

I have ask my Insiders if they know if the full list of Sky Basic HD Channels are coming or just soon but they have no news.

Remember Sky Sports HD is Sky's baby, it's massive USP and the only way they were gonna give it to VM was if they could soak up an extra cost from it. They were cornered by ofcom to give the HD for SS1 and SS2 at 'a fair reasonable price' not for no additional charge. Loads of people on here have in the past moaned and moaned about not being able to get Sky Sports HD and now it's here they're still moaning! You know, I looked at the guide for Sky Sports 3&4 and I can honestly say there is really nothing significantly in need of HD viewing cause the main stuff is on SS1/2. You've got the HD channels and if you don't mind paying only £3.50 extra per channel or much much less if you have movies as well to take advantage of your HD TV Set then go for it. If you don't want it, just don't get it in HD or don't get the channels at all, it's as simple as that really. :)

Anyone who really wanted Sky Sports HD or Movies will already be a Sky Customer, unless it's VM customers holding off to see what they're going to get. I can't see VM losing many customers over this, it's not like we're losing channels like the Sky 1 fiasco a few years ago.

I still think VM provide a stronger product than Sky, so a few extra HD channels from Sky is never going to swing it for most people.

To all these people who are saying Virgin are ripping them off over the £7 HD charge. The price quoted by OFCOM was £5.89 exc VAT, which will make the cost £7.07 when VAT goes to 20%. So how are they making anything out of that.

As for the SKY sports and movies channels SD packages, Virgin probably wouldnt give a toss if no-one took them, as they make next to nothing in profit for Virgin. Virgin just want to be able to use these channels as an enticement to people, so that they may choose Virgin over Sky.

If you dont like the price, DONT pay it.

Not unless you subscribe to them for the £7 and you will need to already have the standard def versions to do this.

What you see is just advertising until they launch on August 2nd , basically letting every one know they have them and they are ready to go very soon.
