There is a census being completed again next year and adverts have appeared looking for staff to assist people in their own home to complete and return their forms. In a day I've completed an application form, passed an online suitability test and arranged a phone interview for 7th January :)

Its only 6 weeks work at 15 hours a week so I'm sure I can manage to work it around my full time job and the hourly pay isn't too bad either.
How's it going, had to do another test last night, complete nightmare if you don't bother to read the accompanying pdf's

After 15 years faithful service our old Toshiba TV is no more.

Now we have the nice new 32" Samsung with HD.

Now have to see if there is enough left in the kitty to get a V+HD box installed.

We went to the fantastic wedding of a young friend yesterday and both the bride and her mother wore Doc Martins. Very tastefully done of course. :D The Bride's were white with flowers and matched her long white wedding dress and tiara beautifully. :)

Actually I've found a fly in the system..Seems as an EXISTING customer I will have to pay a monthly fee for a V+HD box and the old man is flat out refusing to pay it.Doesn't mind the £49 installation fee just won't pay monthly.
If we were a new XL TV customer we'd get it for free.

Accordin to the website if you are on XL TV you only pay for the activation and the is no monthly charge, call tomorrow morning and speak to another agent unless Benmcr can shed any light on this.

and you are correct about the no monthly fee.The only fly in the ointment is that the activation/installation fee for an existing customer seems to be £69.99.

I pointed out that the VM website is rather misleading over this point.

Would be nice if others pointed out this fact too.Hint,hint.

Yesterday I applied for a job as a Ramp Agent (Working on the Ramp, you will be loading bags onto the ramp and into the hold of the aircraft, roping off the engines, directing traffic, ensuring all doors are secured, attaching stairs, operating other ground machinery as required, and preparing for aircraft arrival and departure).

Found out today that the hours are OMG, early shift starts at 4am, and late shift finishes at 1 am.

Don't fancy the hours, but I really like the job. So everything crossed.

Found out today that the hours are OMG, early shift starts at 4am, and late shift finishes at 1 am.

Don't fancy the hours, but I really like the job. So everything crossed.

Hope you get it, but those hours are worse than mine when i am on shifts of 6am-2pm which meant i dragged myself out of bed at 5..... although you do get used to it.

But you probably need to get up at 3am!!!!! good luck!

Just got back from a fantastic production of Private Lives at the Royal Exchange.

Stage level seats free of charge as we're getting married there... :)

At least you got something out of the proposal.;)

Apart from the joke that is a nice thing for them to offer couples getting married there, nice one.:)

Hi all, not been around for a while due to working my butt off in both jobs! I've also been spending a lot of time on Money Saving Expert forums and learning a hell of a lot whilst putting my finances into order. Normal service to be resumed now ;)

Just seen the International Space Station (with Discovery) zipping (relatively) across the sky on a very clear night, with the new Moon helping by not being too bright.

Amazing.

Here's a link for others in the UK if they get a chance

I missed it by 2 hours :(
Thanks for posting the link though.
I saw it (ISS only) a couple of years ago (with the help of the moon for placement) and it was far speedier than I thought it would be.

Happy thought is looking forward to seeing Alistair McGowan as 'the Pirate King' next Sunday and I have never heard of Simon Butteriss but I'm sure he'll be a marvelous Major General :D

A cop stopped me for speeding. He said, "Why were you going so fast?"

I said, "See this thing my foot is on? It's called an accelerator. When you push down on it, it sends more gas to the engine. The whole car just takes right off, and see this thing? This steers it."

:D

Sitting in the 8th floor bar at the Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens, looking out at the floodlit Parthenon on the Acropolis (through the falling light snow), drinking a large Glenlivet.

Sometimes, working away can have it's upside.....

Anyway, time for bed, as it's 18 minutes past midnight here.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Got a good set of headphones yesterday.

Went up Tottenham Court Road, figuring that I would find a better selection up there than locally. And, TBH, I did. Tried a few, found a set I liked for £60. I thought I'd look locally just in case, so went to Croydon yesterday.

The shops in the town centre had a huge range of earphones for MP3 players, but in terms of actual over-the-ear headphones, no one were really doing any for less than £80.

Dixons, who usually have a good selection of headphones were only really interested in selling the "Beats by Dr Dre" range. The problem with them is I wanted a brand that is known for manufacturing good quality headphones for studio use, not a brand that isn't (as far as I know) used in studios, but is hyped as being so.

So, I caught the tram to the Purley way (they have a few electronics superstores down there). Went in Best Buy, didn't find a set I liked.

I went in Comet, who did have a good range of headphones, including the one I found on Tottenham Court Road. They also had various ones set up so you could listen to them with a variety of music (Jazz, Classical, Rock, Pop and Hip Hop). I tried various brands (AKG, Sony, Sennheiser and the aforementioned Beats by Dr Dre). Despite being the second most expensive, the Beats headphones sounded cheap on everything, despite being about £100.

The Sennheisers I chose (model HD205, which is also the same model I found up Tottenham Court Road) sounded excellent on all the types, and as a bonus were only £40.
