Re: Cricket
Brilliant!
Those Aussies and their 5-0 whitewash predictions... |
Re: Cricket
I must admit that at 47/3 on Day 1 I feared the worst. Happy that it proved to be wrong. Can we make it 2-0 at Lords on Thursday?
|
Re: Cricket
Well the Australians are a boastful lot at the best of times well lets see how much bottle they have now.
|
Re: Cricket
England's record at Lords is not the best TBH, especially against Australia.
|
Re: Cricket
Well the optimism did not last for long old boy.:D
|
Re: Cricket
Had a look at their record at Lords in the Ashes since the 2001 series.
01 - Australia by 8 wickets 05 - Australia by 239 runs 09 - England by 115 runs 13 - England by 347 runs 15 - ??? I predict an Aussie win this week, but only because of the pattern that there has been this Century. Naturally, I want an England win this week. |
Re: Cricket
I'm going to Lords on Thursday, every time I've been to see England play we've won so hopefully that run continues! :D
|
Re: Cricket
Oh, we know who to blame then if Aussies do win. ;) :D :p:
|
Re: Cricket
Yes if we don't win then l hope they lock you up in the famous Lords dungeons.;)

I always feel that LBW decisions should be automatically reviewed anyway. But yes it is funny to take the mickey out of the Aussies.

Fall in Sky Ashes viewing figures leaves English cricket facing stark choices.

Re: Cricket
But with the nice weather we have had over the last week, who is staying indoors to watch cricket? I bet a lot of people were in a pub watching it, or round a mates house to watch it. Can't really read much into that, we need to compare the figures for a Test match when it was not so nice weather.
|
Re: Cricket
And there was minor tennis tournament on somewhere. ;)
|
Re: Cricket
True. The only part of Wimbledon I watched was the Federer Murray match, women's final and the women's doubles final.
---------- Post added at 15:28 ---------- Previous post was at 15:24 ---------- Did watch a bit on Saturday though between finals. |
Re: Cricket
I just flicked over to the tennis between overs and drinks, lunch and tea breaks.
|
Re: Cricket
Ominous start from Aussies. Between 1886 and 2009 England won just one Ashes test at Lords.
|
Re: Cricket
Come on old boy get that chin off the floor now.

Re: Cricket
104/1, Australia at lunch.

Still up old boy but l have to say that Lords should be ashamed of the test pitch it has produced.:td:

Re: Cricket
Will have to reserve judgement on the pitch until after England have batted on it. :(

Re: Cricket
Whoever won the toss were inevitably going to bat first on this featherbed.

And that must have cost you a arm and a leg to watch such tedious rubbish.

Re: Cricket
I was in the cheap seats denphone, so it wasn't too bad! Its always worth going to Lords in my opinion, always a great experience. Just a shame the wicket was awful and so were England!

What's the betting on England not reaching 300 in first innings?
|
Re: Cricket
I would think the question should be what odds Aussies get an innings plus victory over us here?

My my you are a bunch of pessimists.:)

Re: Cricket
typical out second ball shocking
see the usually brilliant start for England 30-3 ---------- Post added at 17:06 ---------- Previous post was at 16:15 ---------- FFS 4 down now |
Re: Cricket
Better than 2 for 4 against RSA.
|
Re: Cricket
It seems the pessimists were right to be pessimistic.:(
|
Re: Cricket
Well it looks like England may just sneak past the 300 I predicted on first innings.:(

Re: Cricket
Dreadful from England today :(

Re: Cricket
Well, I did say that it should be an Aussie win if it followed the pattern set already this century. But I never expected to see a defeat quite this big.
I've heard people say that Bell should be dropped, and Ali moved from 8th batting to 3rd. |
Re: Cricket
Root should be moved up to number 3 whilst bell should go down to 5 with Lyth and Balance dropped.
|
Re: Cricket
Just turned TV on to watch on VM and for some reason the HD feed from Sky seems to have swapped over. HD is on C503 and standard broadcast is on C513, ???
All the HD channels seem to have moved to the start of the Sky Sports channels, when did that happen? |

At this rate and with this wicket I wouldn't be surprised if the Aussies are batting again late this evening!
|
Re: Cricket
By heck you are pessimistic.:D
|
Re: Cricket
now England can you please bat properly
|

Well l am just praying we can reach 250 then we might have a chance.

Good job we lost the toss this morning!! |
Re: Cricket
Was curious about the record of wins/losses/draws at Edgbaston since the 1981 series.
1981 - England won by 29 runs 1985 - England won by an innings and 118 runs 1989 - Drawn 1993 - Australia won by 8 wickets 1997 - England won by 7 wickets 2001 - Australia won by an innings and 118 runs 2005 - England won by 2 runs 2009 - Drawn 2013 - Not played So an overall record (1981 to current day) of 4 England wins, 2 Australia wins and 2 draws. So hopefully this can be a 5th England win since 1981 at Edgbaston. Certainly hoping it can be. Hoping weather holds out for England. Although if it looks like England are going to lose then a lengthy rain delay is welcome! |

Anderson will be a massive loss if he can't play.

He has already been ruled out. Massive loss, it will have to be some performance from England to win without him imo.

Re: Cricket
Is it the whole series? I heard he was going to miss the 4th Test and hopefully be fit again for the 5th. If out for the rest, then England are screwed. Although we will deserve to lose the Ashes if we lose the last 2 Tests. Don't think anyone has come from 2-1 down to win before.

Australia all out for 60, top scorer - Extras.
Now to see England all gone for 59?! Or even 10, force to follow on and gone for 40. One day test match. |

Re: Cricket
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead. In peace there's nothing so becomes a man As modest stillness and humility: But when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger; Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood, Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage; Then lend the eye a terrible aspect; Let pry through the portage of the head Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it As fearfully as doth a galled rock O'erhang and jutty his confounded base, Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean. Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide, Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit To his full height. On, on, you noblest English. Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof! Fathers that, like so many Alexanders, Have in these parts from morn till even fought And sheathed their swords for lack of argument: Dishonour not your mothers; now attest That those whom you call'd fathers did beget you. Be copy now to men of grosser blood, And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman, Whose limbs were made in England, show us here The mettle of your pasture; let us swear That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not; For there is none of you so mean and base, That hath not noble lustre in your eyes. I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips, Straining upon the start. The game's afoot: Follow your spirit, and upon this charge Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!' :cleader::cleader::cleader: |
Re: Cricket
Easy.
|
Re: Cricket
Was working today so only watching the highlights just now. Amazing day, delighted for Broad especially as the Aussies hate him :D Surely England must win back the ashes now
|
Re: Cricket
I suspect England will collapse to 300 all out tomorrow, Aussies make 450 in their second innings, thanks to a double century from Mitchell Johnson, leaving England 210 to win which they'll just fall short of. England will then to win the 5th Test and Ashes though, it's a funny old game...
