Utd must be playing Arsenal quite soon..............
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has re-opened his war of words with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger by calling the Frenchman a "disgrace".

Quote:

Ferguson has slammed Wenger's behaviour after United's 2-0 Premiership win over the Gunners at Old Trafford in October. He told the Independent: "In the tunnel Wenger was criticising my players, calling them cheats, so I told him to leave them alone and behave himself.

Quote:

"He ran at me with hands raised saying: 'What do you want to do about it?'"
Sounds a bit Chav like to me

They will win Russ, cheats never prosper, well scousers don't. That ref is also a joke he's never had his cards in his pocket.

Please explain where they cheated?

Liverpool had their fair share of free kicks and we had a man sent off so what your saying is tosh!

Man Utd away tickets to Liverpool - £28

Meat Pie - £3

Couple of beers - £7

Down to one point behind now, the Arsenal are losing it slowly :D
It should be a good game in February, it could be make or break for either club for this season.
Let's hope there are not any punch ups on or off the field.

Liverpool are gaining ground, but it is early days for their new manager, they will get better.

Chelsea are quite a way in front of all other teams, but I think Mourinho will be very wary of united, especially after the midweek game, when United were not at full strength.

United have played very well this week, I hope it continues until the end of this season.

I always knew the Arse's bubble would burst, I still don't take them seriously as a world-class team. Let's hope for football's sake that they go back to their "also-ran" days of the 90s as quickly as possible.

Now Chelsea, they are interesting. There's nothing like buying success, but there's no loyalty in that team. Abramovich is like a child with the keys to a sweet shop - he tries a sweet, if he doesn't like it he throws it away. That's what he's doing with his team. He'll spend millions, if they don't fit he just discards them.

Proves the point that Arse are a good team, not a great team and a huge part to get that status is winning back to back championships.

Last season they were good but counts for nothing this season.

Watched the game on MOTD against Bolton and they were very, very dire! :D

You wait till he's had enough of the whole team like he did in Russia a few years ago, he'll drop them like a bomb, Chelsea cannot survive without his money, he's got players on mega money, the gate recipts, tv money, merchandise etc etc come nowhere near to covering the clubs expenses. Beckham has said he'd like to go back to Man U if he ever left Real Madrid.. even if Fergie was still there..

interesting that he would say that now when he's not playing well and rumoured to be on the new coaches hit list..

I'd like to see him back as no one can cross the ball as well as him and he's more consistant than Ronaldo and has more vision for passing to other team mates..

not sure if i'd like all the off field circus that goes with him though..

in other news our World Cup winner Kleberson is a target for Benfica.. i've seen more of him in the papers than i have on the pitch.. still not even sure if he is an attacking midfielder.. defensive or winger

What's wrong with Chelsea?

Russ 18-01-2005 12:18

Re: [Merged] Football talk

We don't want football in the UK to be all about buying power, there needs to be more home grown talent coming through the clubs themselves. Chelsea is all about spending and many other clubs are following their lead. Although United have been partially guilty of this, their youth policy is well documented and this way of cultivating players is IMO the best way to bring talent in to the game. Chelsea are leading the way in to taking the game apart. This may be the footballing culture in other countries (Spain, for instance) but it's certainly not wanted here.

nffc 18-01-2005 13:05

Re: [Merged] Football talk

Buying power means naff all if it's poorly managed though.

Blackburn, Newcastle, Liverpool are testament to the assertation money does not buy success- and Bolton, Everton etc on the other hand!

Chelsea just happen to not only have the cash but the right manager. And the key players (Terry, Lampard) were all there pre-Abramovich. Mourinho is the closest thing to OBE in the game, arrogant with the talent to match.

What Chelsea are doing is no different to what Manure and the Arse have done, albeit on a faster timescale, and they could well walk away with a clean sweep of 4 trophies this season.

There is a difference in that Man Utd and Arsenal have earnt the money they spend by being successful and good business practices.

I'm sure every team would love a Sugar Daddy.

I'm sure Notts Forest fans would like it if someone like Abramovich took over from your current chairman.

Yes but also enough money to spend on van Nistlerooy, Forlan, Taibi, Barthez, Ferdinand, Heinze, Saha, Smith, Keane (from whom ;)), Silvestre, etc etc.

They have a youth setup which has produced players for them- but they've also bought a fair whack as well.

Chelsea have brought a fair few through as well- Huth, Terry, and developed other players they've bought - Lampard, Gudjohnsen.

Fact is money does NOT buy success which was my point.

Yes I would, IMO our chairman is a ******* ******, a ****, ****, **** and want him out now. But that misses the point.

Man U have a massive fanbase worldwide, they fill the ground practically every game, countless others in merchandise and MuTV- and it was almost as big before '92 as well.

Arsenal not so much- Wenger has been astute and they are in debt- manageable though- but still spent money on the squad.

Success breeds success and Chelsea will probably get substantial return in prize money, etc, on the initial outlay, as Manure and Arse have done.

Not really success and good business practice.

Yes but they spent before as well.

Lampard (11m), Hasselbaink (7.5m), Gudjohnsen (4m) being a few salient examples. Di Matteo, Zola... list goes on!

They're only speeding up the team building process. They didn't spend that much last summer and they probably won't this. Mourinho only wants a small squad.

United have spent big? Let's take a look at the team from Saturday.
Man Utd: Carroll (Wigan, 2.5m, 2001), Phil Neville (YTS), Brown (YTS), Silvestre (Inter, 4m, 1999), Heinze (6.9m, PSG, 2004), Fletcher (YTS), Keane (Forest, 3.5m, 1993), Scholes (YTS), Ronaldo (Lisbon, 12.24m, 2003) (O'Shea (YTS) 67), Rooney (Everton, 20m, 2004) (Bellion (Sunderland, 2m, 2003) 90), Saha (Fulham, 12.82m, 2004) (Fortune (A Madrid, 1.25m, 1999) 79).
Subs Not Used: Howard (MLS, 2.3m), Miller (Celtic, free, 2004).

Total- 5 YTS players in first 16, £67.51m . That's spending big.

The only point I backed up was the one we were in accord over ie United had spent big.

Chelsea spent before Abramovich and will continue to do so.

The fact you were so ready to gloat about United's kids, so good they're not in the team- where did I back that up?

Oh and compare Utd's XI with Forest's arguably best XI:

Gerrard (Everton, free, 2004), Louis-Jean (Le Havre, free, 1998), Rogers (Leicester, free, 2004), Dawson (YTS), Morgan (YTS), Commons (Stoke, 300k, 2004), Derry (loan), Bopp (YTS), Reid (YTS), King (Gillingham, 950k, 2003), Harris (Millwall, free, 2004)

4 YTS players (and plenty in reserve), 4 free transfers, total assembled 1.25m.

Look outside the premiership and that is pretty common.

Now come again...

Re: [Merged] Football talk

Who said I was gloating over United's kids? Why would I do that when their youth policy is well documented??

And and on the subject of comparing Forest with United, take a quick look at their respective league positions before you make any more comparisons in future ;) :D

sherer 18-01-2005 15:18

Re: [Merged] Football talk

as i think Russ said a few posts ago yes we have spent big of late..but only after we started earing that on and off the pitch.. Ruud, Rio and Rooney being the big ones we have always had a youth setup as well ever since the days of Busby.. we have always relied on this coupled with a few big buys..

i don't think we are as bad as Chelsea but I don't think in today's day and age we could do a 99 and get all the way to the treble with just a youth setup.. you have to buy now to compete with the other clubs going for the title but you have to spend well or you end up like Leeds..

if you don't buy you don't win..

it does seem silly the prices some players go for though..

You did the treble- but the fact is you weren't champions in the qualifying season 97-98 (Arsenal were) so you shouldn't really have been in a competition for clubs who WON their league (ie the Champions' League) but FIFA pandering to the wishes of the big teams again.

It was harder to win it when it was unseeded draw, 2 leg knockout, competition, now you can draw your group games and still go through.

something pathetically small. SBC had a definitive first XI that in the event of no midweek game he'd even take off for a friendly! And he'd still play them all the time.

Well of course we've only won the league once but we won the thing so entered as holders the second time round.

What, like yours will be after you lose to Exeter, and in a few years when chelsea are cleaning up all and sundry...

Fact remains that Clough took a team of misfits and cheap players from 16thish in the second division to league champions straight after promotion, and the best team in Europe, twice in two years. That will NEVER be done again.

No-one can take that away from Forest. They'll be back as soon as they can remove that prat of a chairman.

And in any case. If bitterness were a pill Man Utd and their whinging idiot of a manager would have ODed on it and be in intensive care having their stomach pumped on a life support. Pfft.

This seems to have wandered anyway.

Chelsea are a joy to watch, play good, honest, football based on solid defending. Mourinho may not exhude classic one liners like SBC did but he's as close as one can get (Porto, european champions? ) to a modern SBC. There is nothing wrong with their spending. They only brought in 5 this year and I can't see them buying much more.

Ok. I'll let you have your moment of glory.

And thanks for reminding the rest of us about who Nottm Forest are. Most people here are either to young to remember their glory days or have simply forgotten :D

Idiot. We were in the Premiership up until recently (your lot won 8-1 at our place once- which kind of flattered you lot really, don't think our defence turned up but the rest weren't too bad), reached the QFs of the UEFA cup in 1996, and third in PL in 95. League Cup in 89 and 90.

That's not too far away.

Although we're gonna be the first Euro Champs to be demoted to the third tier of their league :( Sort it out Megson...

First of all, if you want to keep posting here, you won't call me or anyone else on this site an idiot and you'll refrain from any further personal attacks.

Secondly....where are Forest in the league? And where are United? Case closed :D

But the goal was disallowed, and so they went through. You can't live on "if n goal wasn't disallowed then blah" because Porto may have won after the goal anyway.

Oh I can tell you - poor finishing plus that annoying phenomenon where the goalkeeper of teams which United should swat aside goes out and has the best game of his life.... :grind:

edit: ahhhhhh!!!

Give them their due, Exeter put up one hell of a fight. It raised their profile and that keeper is definately going places.

Phewww...

Just a question, I thought that Exeter's home strip was red and white strips, so why were they playing in their away strip for?

Exeter did play well though.

Apparently the two teams agreed after the last match to wear the same kits.

Don'tthink they have released a photo of the front yet. Wonder if they'll use the old or new badge.

Are you now? As much as it pains me to admit it, I seem to remember Villa being relegated to the old third division in the mid-80s (about 8 years after we won the European Cup).

Oh well, thanks for giving me a chuckle - Forest can't even fall apart first ;) :D
