I wouldn’t get too excited … they have hinted that they will be covering the first new intake of cadets ‘in more than a century’ which suggests they’re aiming for the rather woolly far-future era inhabited by the USS Discovery.

HBO has officially announced plans for a new Game of Thrones prequel series called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.

The CW has announced a few new series, mostly forgettable, however, these looked interesting (for 2024).

More nails in the coffin of Superman & Lois.

While it did get renewed, it got a cut down order of just 10 episodes.
Now it turns out that most of the previous seasons regulars have also been cut.
General Lane, Lana Cushing [Lang], Kyle Cushing, Sarah Cushing, John Henry Irons, Natalie Irons & Chrissy Beppo.

In other words pretty much everyone except the actual main Kent family.
Its likely most of these will make some guest appearences, but nothing more.
It seems very unlikely The CW will renew this past Season 4, given they way they are winding it down.

I’m surprised. While they obviously thought they were setting up a new season at the end of the last one, I think they jumped the shark with the whole world in spiritual peril plotline and when they dipped into that most ancient of TV drama tropes (if a nun is good looking, she’s definitely sexually repressed and probably a lesbian) it looked like they were out of ideas.

It’s rare for fan action to overrule the all-powerful algorithm Netflix lives by though. My money’s on a one-off movie or mini series to wrap up the stuff they left hanging. 2 or 3 hours of telly at the absolute most, rather than a full 8-10 episode order.

Some US autumn dates have been confirmed.

The Simpsons returns on Oct 1st
Magnum P.I. returns on Oct 4th.

Magnum was a recent change, added becasue they already have the episodes filmed.
The rest of the US autumn schedules are basically shows already filmed, reruns, or non scripted, due to the strike(s).

After confirming the previously noted renewal of Gen-V for season 2, its also been revealed that the Season 1 finale will lead into The Boys Season 4, and its Season 4 Finale will lead back into Gen-V Season 2.

That’s interesting as Disney generally follows a weekly drop model. I wonder if it indicates a lack of confidence in the first couple of episodes as compelling enough to make people remember to go back for more a week later - they’re maybe pinning their hopes on those who haven’t switched off the default ‘next episode’ auto-play.

That’s a long wait for Umbrella Academy, with S3 having dropped way back in June 2022. Even allowing for the writers/actors strikes, Netflix does sometimes have a lackadaisical approach to actually making the stuff it says it has recommissioned.

Yes, I know Netflix dragging its heels is nothing new, sadly. Their treatment of Stranger Things, arguably one of their major breakout hits, continues to be bizarre, especially when they’re dealing with a young cast getting visibly out of kilter with the ages of the characters they’re playing.

Gutted that UA is only 6 eps tho, didn’t know that. :(

The Librarians: The Next Chapter will also air in the autumn (both on the CW).

According the CW, the superman series was apparently killed off by Warner Bros Television because they ;
"didn’t want viewers to see a different Man of Steel on the small screen when the new Superman film is released in 2025".

DC has never seemed bothered by multiple, simultaneous portrayals of their characters by different actors before. Mind you, I gave up trying to follow the DC universe a long time ago because it’s a bit of a mess. They should have taken a cue from Marvel and unified everything under the same creative team. Maybe this is a sign they’re planning to.

I think to a degree marvel have shot themselves in the foot by spreading the universe across cinema and TV. It was bad enough early on when they talked about Shield events but now with characters turning up in movies with no explanation who they are they are upsetting the movie only viewers

The first season ended in mid December, the second season kicks off on 7th April, it will consist of 8 episodes.

CBS has ordered a Young Sheldon spin-off about his brother Georgie and wife (to be) Mandy.

Lionsgate Television is currently shopping around new series inspired by the popular movie franchises Twilight & John Wick (the Twilight show would be animated, not sure about JW).
