Thats not true, STV also show a lot of Scottish programmes and other programmes at different days/times to what is on ITV. I remember when STV stopped airing The Bill and putting on localised shows. Just recently there was a series about local/scottish history and one of the programmes last week was about the 1971 gas explosion in clarkston.

STV2 is the local channel now.

Yes, although I suppose I should point out that there are only 3 variations on VM as the network doesn't extend as far as Aberdeen.

I think it's more to do with getting the correct advertising for the STV franchise.

Although they can be relevant for regional television, mainly for DTT. The reason that STV +1 takes the Edinburgh version is to give viewers in the east of the central belt an opportunity to see the most appropriate version of the news. Some viewers in the east receiving the Glasgow service from the Black Hill transmitter rather than the Edinburgh service from Craigkelly.

I like the fact that the Documentary and Entertainment genres are to be merged (on Sky). Largely because most channels don't stay within their genre.

+1s being in their own section with a +100 model sounds good but I think that it will create a lot of gaps.

Merging Entertainment, Documentary and Lifestyle sounds good. Do we really expect to look in the Documentary section to find One Foot In The Grave on Yesterday, or in the Lifestyle section to find Dalziel and Pascoe on Home? Well done UKTV :rolleyes: - although other broadcasters are just as bad.

In name only. STV still operates 4 regional opt-outs on the ITV Network. STV 2 is a single network feed across all of the, supposedly local, Scottish local tv franchises.

If there are programmes on STV that aren't available on the rest of the ITV network, I wonder if VM are to make it available to everyone via the the back door by using this as their AD channel??

That way, as with the BBC Nations and S4C, those who used to live in Scotland or are simply interested in the culture can watch the local news & other programming.

Also, if this is put in place now, ITV would have less of a case if they complained about this feed being put onto 103 should VM go down this route regarding the retransmission fee dispute.

Does this change to central testing suggest that STV AD may be being made available to the whole VM network (this may help to support or disprove my speculation above).

Personally, if they can get away with it and it's free, I think that VM might as well offer STV to everyone as an alternative to ITV for the purposes of timeshifting or extra programming.

I sometimes watch BBC1 Wales for the local programming and find BBC1 NI useful at night during recording clashes as they often show programmes later than the English BBC1.

The only time I have ever watched regional BBC channels are when they show a football or rugby match that isn't on the standard BBC 1 or 2

No, it's the normal way of doing things. Code Download Test (Portsmouth) was also used in the early stages of STV2, KMTV Made for Kent etc. NGRHEE Bromley, TTA Bromley DMC (Bromley RHE) & Manchester TRIALS networks carry RTE One, RTE Two & TG4 but it's not an indication that those services will be made available to the whole network. It's just the way things are organised.

If STV allowed it, it would probably be the start of a big dispute between STV & ITV PLC.

It's not a problem for the BBC, watching other regions doesn't have a potential impact on their income.

Looks like the linear version of Playboy TV may be closing at 6am on 1/12/17. If a long standing adult channel can't survive it must put a question mark over the future of the other more minor players.

I agree but on the otherhand Virtual reality is really growing especially in the gaming industry, the VR tv cinema i saw at EGX was very impressive.
Only time will tell.

I fell for the 3D fad, bought a 3D TV, used it once for 3D. Glasses on, Glasses off, generally feeling sick. Fortunately it was a Good TV in its own right, so not a waste.

Virtual reality will be the same, I have a PS4 and have never bothered with the VR Headset, I love gaming, but VR doesn't interest me. (Maybe it's Just me).

No its certainly not just you as 3D was never going to go big mainstream as one there was not enough produced content plus those 3D glasses put a big spoke into the wheels as well and the same will happen to any new formats unless they cross the divide into the popular mainstream.
