so from that i assume that you have been hammering your connection then ?????

Same here for me. Yesterday mine dropped to a steady 60k.

Has anyone rung NTL to ask em how long we have to stay on this new package for or can we just ring em up and ask to go back to a 2/3 meg connection??;)

How to get a FREE upgrade from ntl.
===========================

1. Be a subscriber to 300kb, like I have been for a long time. Accept that this gives you a 30GB monthly cap, which will probably suffice. Pay £17.99.

2. Take the "upgrade" to 1mb, and accept the cap at 3GB, which will probably NOT suffice. Pay £17.99.

3. Bust the hell out of the 3GB cap.

4. Get downgraded by ntl to 512kb with no cap. Pay £17.99.

5. Finish up with higher speed and unlimited capacity, for the same price as you started.

Anyone see a hole in the logic?

Anyone explain why ntl doesn't just offer 512kb uncapped as the base product?

Anyone explain why ntl doesn't answer the questions I just asked?

Some people have a need for speed, rather than a need to download anything they can get their greedy little hands on.

I have no great need for speed, nor am I among those who download "anything they can get their greedy little hands on."

I chose to opt out of the "upgrade" to 1mb, since I might on occasions go above a 3GB monthly cap. People send me pictures for a couple of organisations I'm involved with, and I can't predict how many there will be.

ntl couldn't/wouldn't tell me how I would be "punished" if I did exceed the cap. It now emerges that the "punishment" is 70% better in terms of speed than the service I'm paying for, and there's no cap ...

I can't get any explanation of this anomaly from ntl, nor can I subscribe to the "punishment" regime.

I hoped a message on this forum might provoke a sensible explanation from ntl. I'm still hoping ...

No. It appears the trigger is 150gb.

Where did you get that piece of information from as that seems very high considering the cap is quoted at 30gb. With most things you get a percentage tolerance of say 10% or in genrous circumstances 20 - 25% allowing for the fact that 3mb will eventually be 10mb with 75gb cap then 150gb sounds a very optomistic figure

Posts by others on this forum who have had a warning letter seem to support the assumption that NTL is using 150Gb as the trigger point. That's not to say they won't get round to less serious offenders in time though. Maybe they are just targeting the serious bandwidth hogs and warez monkeys for now.

I'd certainly agree with that. We haven't had the 'test case' (so to speak) of anyone on 1Mbps with a 3GB cap who's been knocked onto 512kbps, though, as of yet.

Where the trigger lays there, I don't know. Although it would appear - at the moment - that those of us who use 30GB a month on 1Mbps have nothing to worry about.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

its dependent on area where you live i think also, mine was 156gig on warning letter then on final letter they congratulated me on lowering my usage to 122gig from 156gigs, YET i have seen plenty who have downloaded more for the warning letter and less on the final notice downgrade letter, as low as 56gigs.

So to me NTL are saying 122gigs is fine here and its within the acceptable fair usage policy BUT the letter also states that they will continue to monitor my usage, but hell i don't care the letter says i was OK using THAT amount

mcmanic yeah thats unusual, I hope that doesnt become the case as the level should be the same in every area.

I break 30 gig almost every month but am below 100gig, I have recieved no letter at all.

I'm only on 17GB at the moment, so on course for around 27GB this month.
