At least those are my theories.

Sad news everyone, no MTV XMAS for VM customers in the UK.

It's launched today on Sky, BT, TalkTalk and Virgin Media Ireland replacing MTV Classic.

Given we are still waiting on the 3 apps and the boxsets mentioned in the Viacom/VM deal announcement it's not like it's impossible there wasn't other elements in the finer details of the deal not mentioned in the press release that have yet to launch.

Not that I'd hold my breath... :D

VM are now up to version 3 of the Channel Guide PDFs for November, this time correcting the packs that Sky News and Sky News HD are available in.

Amazon Prime Video is still incorrectly listed on 228 rather than 205, and no indication of the Nickelodeon channels being added to additional packs.

No news this weekend?

Do anyone know if UKTV plans to have Christmas Gold this year?

Still no confirm launch date for Home becoming HGTV UK.

I think it safe to say that Viacom did not give Virgin Media the rights to any of the missing channels.

Probably. Though the 3 apps haven't launched yet, so it's not like the whole contents of the press release have been delivered already.

TiVo has confirmed that FA WSL will be shown on Channel 100 from Sunday at half 2.

The WSL game will be Tottenham VS Aresnal.

The game may also be shown on Channel 532* in 4K UHD (That channel will appear by Sunday).

*Channel 532 was use early this year for other Football games.

I wonder how they will implement the new UHD content.

Do you think there will be a new UHD on demand section for TV shows?
I'm guessing for Sports, it will be available through the red button or something similar.

I can't see Sky launching a UHD sports channel just for Virgin viewers, so I imagine it will all be streamed.

I thought Sky were launching a UHD sports channel next year, so it wouldn't be just for VM.

Even if they aren't, broadcast is much more reliable than streaming for UHD, so I think it would be a hidden broadcast channel accessed by the Red Button.

On Sky it is broadcast over satellite. Only the On Demand UHD content uses your broadband connection.

Sony Max 2 will be launching soon. JJ20X mentioned it on Forumbox and it is showing on DigitalBitRate with "This channel is coming soon" in the EPG data.

No idea what channel number, but it'll be in the 800s. It's in SD and is already available on Sky.

With NOW Christmas set to close on December 26th on Channel 346 I have seen no word yet on if:

AATW will move NOW 80s back to Channel 346 or keep it on Channel 348.
I have seen rumours on the web that AATW may launch NOW 70s after Christmas.

Given they are moving away from the TV Movie content they were showing on True Movies/Christmas and to a lesser extent on Sony Movies Christmas to show films that got a cinema release, I wonder if they might launch a new channel using the space Sony Crime is on (but obviously a different EPG number in the film category) and cater for that market again.

Although the type of content Sony Movies Classic is more my type of thing there is an existing viewerbase for their previous type of content, especially FTA, as the closest is PayTV channels Movies24 and Movies24+.

They could call it Sony Movies Romance.

You should be able to watch using the built in app on your TV or V6 box.
You will need to have an active Amazon Prime subscription and be signed in on either or both devices.

TBN UK: No room at the inn for TBN on Virgin Media.

TBN UK has reveal the following today on Twitter:

Quote:

We’ve been in discussion with Virgin Media. Despite our best efforts, Virgin continue to say they have no room for TBN UK, on their main platform.
https://twitter.com/TBNUKtv/status/1199009856897703936

But JJ20X is reporting on Forumbox that up to FOUR Channels may launch soon on Virgin Media.

cheekyangus 29-11-2019 21:23

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)

Possible translation: TBN UK can't afford full carriage on Freeview anymore (as per their recent announcement of a Freeview change), so have opted for a cheaper DTT distribution (a HD-tuner-only multiplex) and are spinning it, when asked, that the only reason they aren't on VM is no room, when it's more likely VM don't want to pay for a poorly performing channel.

Obviously this is just a guess on my part.

The last channel really worth having was the Virgin Media Ultra High Definition channel. I've recorded quite a lot from that channel. Very good quality material on there. I look forward to increased broadcasting hours in due course!

I’ve not seen anything that indicates it will be included free.

They have been pushing the fact it will be available to amazon customers through the V6 box

As your on free trial of amazon prime you will get it on your v6 if signed in.

The PQ stuttered for the first couple of minutes but it has settled down since.

How is your PQ Dave?

PQ is good for me but a slight judder is the camera pans following a punt up the park?

Is that just me?

Haven't been getting that problem but have been getting an effect where the picture seems to be going in and out of focus plus some buffering near end of first half.

Switched to Burnley v City and the picture looks a much lower quality for me.

Interesting that the news story slams the City game - but the story was published 10 minutes before kick-off.

I suspect much of the story was planned well in advance.

The picture quality looks good here especially the Burnley game in UHD and HDR - however, HDR only seems to be working on Amazon devices.

My tv and Chromecast do HDR in the Amazon app - but not switching for the football.

My LG TV's also get HDR via the webOS app.

I must say I'm very impressed with Amazon, the picture quality is on a par with the BBC's UHD/HLG football coverage with the added bonus of DD+ surround sound.

I've suffered no juddering or jerkiness, no drops in resolution just a perfect broadcast :)

I did a check on my nvidia shield too, also getting uhd on that, no judder or drops in resolution or frames.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)

Channel 554 did not show up under the Sports channels despite myself frequently resetting the network connection ( Area 32) , however it showed under all channels search, and was available and working if I clicked on channel Free Sports HD (553) and then on next channel up.

Amazon Prime was showing and worked from the other Amazon Prime channels I accessed in the EPG and also from the app.

I had no problems with buffering or out of focus and the UHD was spot on.

I have a firestick, and also an X96 box both of which have UHD, and had no issues with either picture or quality which was perfect.

Sorry if it seems I wasn't interested in the match, I was, but wanted to test everything.( I knew Burnley would win ) Looking forward to Liverpool v Everton in UHD tomorrow.

Also had no issues with the Crystal Palace game which kicked off earlier.

Apologies should have said area 30, not 32

They won't.

I watched the City game last night and 'they' watched the United game tonight on the V6 - no buffering and no artifacts and no out of focus. Took about 30 secs to spin up and was good to go on both nights.

Might try it on the FireTV stick tomorrow night to compare

It seems that some got a fine PQ without any problems in the last 2 nights while others had a poor PQ with regards to Amazon Prime and its football..

On the whole the PQ from my LG TV App was great, I suffered 1 drop in picture quality, but only lasted 20 seconds.

The issue I didn't expect was that while I was watching the game through the TV, my cousin was watching through his Xbox and he was ahead of me by around 1min. Not sure how that happened lol

We live in different houses, in different towns, using different internet providers, but I'm not sure that would be the issue...maybe it is[COLOR="Silver"]

According to some sources the football streaming is 24 seconds behind events although one source said it was more then that as one warning to people who are watching it is to turn off all goal alerts and refrain from social media and all the major sports online sites and the SSN channel..

I understand the streaming services have a bit of a time lag, I noticed that for the first 2 games that the BBC Live updates were quicker than the action on the TV.

The issue I thought was strange, that if both parties are watching the same game on Amazon Prime, surely one device shouldn't be a minute behind the other? There could be factors in play that could cause this, but on the surface, there shouldn't be this much time difference.

Thinking about it, there was a lag between SD and HD channels, maybe the Xbox PQ is a lower resolution than a TV app - Still a long delay between the two though.

There are reporters at the games feeding events to BBC, Sky, etc.

The BBC probably have access to live feeds from the grounds as well. Sky certainly will.

That's basically it. The higher the resolution and/or compression, the longer it takes to encode and decode. There is also some buffering to smooth out variations in the network speed.

No doubt about that as SSN had more in studio football pundits then they have usually as l was watching the Liverpool game on TV which was 0-0 but on SSN about 30 seconds earlier it was 1-0 to Liverpool.

Discovery's free catch up service dplay is now available on Sky, including content from Quest, Really, Quest Red, Food Network, DMAX and Home.

I wonder if this will also be made available on Virgin TV at some point?

Catch Up on Virgin TV currently includes Really and the Food Network, but none of the other channels on dplay.

I’ve been thinking to myself. As Disney’s deal with Sky is due to expire in a few months, I feel that Sky Cinema Disney will close and all films will move from Now TV to Disney+. In addition, I think all ABC/Fox content will gradually disappear from Sky One and Witness and move to a relaunched Fox.

Look like Disney/Fox has signed an new deal with Virgin Media. Base on information reported by JJ20X over on Forum Box Nat Geo Wild look set to move to an new stream and also move to channel 262.

Certainly a possibility I considered when I read it.

Nat Geo Wild broadcast on CO 62 right now. The "new" one is broadcasting on an SD stream (CO 63). Nat Geo Wild HD is on CO 75 (SID 2402).

Has JJ20X got an update on "a possible 3 additional new services in the wings" yet?

He's saying that my suggestion that maybe it's a HD swap is unlikely as the new stream is SD.

And the last bit is simply wondering if one of the regular analysts has updated their suggestion that there was a hint of 3 new services. They haven't.

---------- Post added at 21:51 ---------- Previous post was at 21:50 ----------

It's very likely just a closing of the gap in the EPG, since 262 and 263 are now empty.
