Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion

I updated my ASUS Laptop to Windows 11 last night. All went smoothly, but very slowly. I counted 4 reboots. (Just under 2 hours)

Windows 11 cannot be installed on most systems with processors over 4 years old. Don't worry. In my view, apart from better functionality and a nice appearance Windows 11 isn't going to add much to your set up.

it will be adding more features over time. I await the natively running android apps so not more bloat filled emulators

IIRC Older systems may be able to have Win 11 installed. As long as they have a TPM module socket on the motherboard and you install a TPM module on it. Newer processors have TPM functionality built into them.

its because the majority of current computers will not run Win 11 mY 3 Year old laptop Has no chance , ok there are workrounds but most people will not be able to do that

Local well known Computer shop offering to Sell you a new one with free upgrade and a very very Small Trade in on old one almost Robbery.

as long as your machine has TPM 1.2 then you can upgrade with a reg hack M$ gave out. It most certainly is not a money grab from M$ imo

Too many still on W10. I'm certainly not throwing away a good pc to 'upgrade'.

Dude111 13-07-2026 20:11

People should be careful taking any updates at this point.. I wouldnt put it past M$ to send out stuff to make the PC not work as well to try and force ppl to the newer OS! (They have done stuff like that before)

Yes same, I hardly use the PC now so it's staying on Windows 10.

There has never been anything stopping anyone on windows 10 from upgrading bar the few on an older AMD apu that might struggle with GFX drivers. Only ever seen this once out of loads

imo the only thing they are patching now is exploits found in the last update and historic vulnerabilities that have been there a very long time and only just found

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion

Well I was considering "Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC" but in order to get that, it's expensive and iirc still requires the "we want to sell your data" account aka a "Microsoft account".

I have now installed Nobara Linux and giving it a shot, the only thing that will cause me to go back to Windows at this point is if I cannot get the games I want to play to work without issue or lower performance by more than 10%.

Yes, exactly it’s ‘security updates’ only, to patch known exploits, certainly no new features -which might not be a bad thing, no copilot rammed down your throat.

I’m sure I read a report which claimed that some 17% of PCs were still on Windows 10, which I think is a low estimate.

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion

According to Statcounter these are the numbers from June 2026.

Desktop Windows Version Market Share Worldwide - June 2026
Win11 69.92%
Win10 28.1%
Win7 1.67%
WinXP 0.17%
Win8.1 0.09%
Win8 0.03%

Desktop Operating System Market Share Worldwide - June 2026
Windows 56.61%
Unknown 21.45%
OS X 11.89%
macOS 4.48%
Linux 4.36%
Chrome OS 1.21%

There is some questions being asked by PCMag and others though because of the "Unknown Os" and apparently it was removed but it still shows for me.

As far as the monitors go this has to have been an agreement between Microsoft and LG. The spyware is installed via a Microsoft update and it seems this could affect monitors that were purchased unto 3 years ago.

Anyone still using Windows 11 and have a LG monitor check your driver updates

The thing to do if you have Pro or enterprise Turn off the trigger install by meta data function in group policy then nothing can do this again . This is what I did then uninstalled the LG program

That is ok for you who is tech savvy but think of the thousands of users who dont have a clue about the software never mind how to stop it.

Fired up my old widows laptop after a couple of days rest, immediately Firefox started to do an update then nothing!
Home screen went blank then a message popped up.
[Unable to continue, refresh required]
This has shown above message for the last hr, still no further forwards?

The screen shows refreshing with a bar moving left/right.
So something is happening but not completing a refresh.

You did not get grief and you still have not understood the answer

The LG Screen that installed this software on my computer is a TV not a Monitor so Sirus did not tell you that. And TVs spy on you by using the microphone and analysing the image on the screen as well . I did explain this to you in the other thread it is not my fault you refused to take notice of me and I really do know what I am on about when I post anything about tech

I think the simplest way to explain it is a TV is a monitor with smart features and a tuner or 2 so there is no difference between them they are both doing it like I said in the other thread

If you connect a Newer LG TV or Monitor it silently without asking pulls the LG Monitor controller and installs this on your computer . This software has system wide permissions and has access to the internet. Remember this asks no permission yet gets global permissions
This was from my very first post on the subject thread I posted . Tell me how you missed that

Following on from m
y earlier post regarding Windows 10 and Firefox!
So no further problems after I used for a couple of days, yesterday I switched on [nbg]!
Repeat of earlier problem, Firefox update then Windows failed to open on my home page.
Message saying unable to start, refresh last session/start new session?
Then screen froze, clicked on exit just reulted in reported error to Microsoft.
Possible end of Windows 10 RIP?

Old lappy - install Linux, personally I like a KDE desktop but it is resource heavy. I haven't used Win10 for ages now that Linux can run my Steam games. There are occasions it would be helpful but I haven't really found anything that doesn't have some form of workaround.
