My 2 daughters are very slow to reply to my requests but expect me to respond as of yesterday!
The boss expects a reply by return as she does to me.

Blimey. My Nan had a pre op assessment this morning, blood pressure is up, needed blood tests doing and seeing the anesthetist next Thursday. Then took her car to a garage because the brakes felt funny, she needs new discs and shoes, a cost of £150. Never rains, etc.

The keyboard on my iPad 2 has started to appear across the centre of the page instead of at the bottom. How do I get it back to it's original position please?
Quote:

ON the lower left side of your keybaord is a keyboard icon with an arrow facing down. Hold your finger on that button and you'll see an option pop and choose Dock. Your keyboard will move back to the bottom of the screen. You have the option on your keyboard to use it split (you have turn that on in settings) and to move it up or down.

When I hold the keyboard icon it pops up dock or split, if I take my finger off it disappears, but it will not me click on dock or split nothing happens. The dock and split does not stay up on its own to click

Just saw my lad (age 24) off - he's off down to his girlfriend's in Banbury, and then on Wednesday they're off to Nepal for a month, then India for a month, then Bali until the New Year, then around Vietnam and Lao in January, then Thailand February onwards for 1-6 months (depending on their finances/ability to get a job doing TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) in North Thailand.

We have had our issues, but I will miss him, and his mother is quite upset.

He will be having some great adventures though, and with the wonders of modern technology (facetime, skype, FB messenger), we will be able to keep in touch.

It isn't obligatory to have every single medical procedure known to man you know. :D

I have a Colonoscopy every year :( and have only ever been offered sedation / pain killers. Ketamine works well for me, I know I feel uncomfortable/pain during the procedure but the level of pain is just not in my memory. It's a tad like selective amnesia.

In all honesty it's the prep that I hate, all I can advise is that the less you put in at one end for around 24 hours before you start the prep the less :erm: 'work' the prep has to do.

I am sure you will get sedation. Just remembered another thing. It is almost certain you will have someone to hold your hand, in my case it is usually a nice Motherly nurse with a soothing voice.

The downside is that there is normally an attractive nurse stationed at the business side of the table helping the Doctor and being talked through what is showing up on the screen. I just wish that just once I would get to hold the hand of the young, handsome Nurse and have the more mature nurse staring at my bum. :D

From experience give it at least 2 days for your brain to get accustomed to the signals from your eyes. As far as moving your head or eyes it depends where the screen is in relation to keyboard. I move my head down to see the keyboard but is slightly blurred.

But my latest have cut the distance prescription to below the legal limit for not wearing glasses for driving.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

Well the news on my old man isn't great. It seems palliative care is the only option and the prognosis is not good i.e. months rather than years. In spite of his recent improvement, the news is not a complete shock but we only found out by chance today when the palliative care nurse appeared to see him and on being asked, told a family member the full extent of what they've found. Of course it may be that he declined to have anyone present with him when he was told the bad news but even so, given his age and state of mind, I'd have expected someone to let us know what was happening because we've made it quite clear to the staff that he's easily confused and were asked to call in to discuss matters with his registrar only last week.

Is it worth making a fuss about? I don't know but right now there are so many things going through my mind that maybe I'm not thinking clearly. Maybe he decided to tough it out and not tell us, maybe he didn't understand, maybe he's in denial and doesn't really believe it because he's been feeling better.

I just hope that what time he has left is as comfortable as it can be and that he doesn't suffer too much.

joglynne 14-10-2015 17:34

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

@ Osem. The main thing now is to ensure that you all feel happy that your Dad has the best possible care and that he is kept pain free. Personally I would ask to have a word with his Consultant, not in any confrontational way but to establish why you weren't informed of the full position. Fair enough if your Dad asked that his family not be informed but, even so, I think you should ensure that his paperwork is officially noted that for XXX reasons any future information, arrangements etc must be conveyed to you first so that a member of the family can be available to support your father.

His mental well being is possibly the main thing that you will be able to protect at this stage so knowing that you have taken these steps may help you all to come to terms with what may happen in the coming months.

We were in a very similar position just before Dad died but as he had made a Living Will and, although it was not legally enforceable, he had a Consultant who was willing to respect his wishes and Dad died at peace and pain free.

Hugs to you all, Jo.

Kind of getting used to them but have just found out i can't wear them in bed while using the tablet because of the narrow vision, not that I need to use them for that, but if I wanted to watch TV too I couldn't.

My worry is I may have the same problem while using a laptop so will have to blow the dust off the laptop and try it.

I can't not wear glasses as distance is blurred and now find closeup is getting a tad dodgy so I have no choice but to go varifocals as I hear bifocals are not good.

I can watch TV fine, but i can't use a tablet at the same time as the viewing angle is soooo narrow i lose 2 thirds of the screen to 2 big blurry messes.

I have also just discovered that there is 4 kinds of Varifocal lenses and i think the optician i went to only sold the basic one with very limited viewing angles. If i had known this i would have gone to Specsavers or vision express and paid extra for wider angle vision, so i am disappointed at the moment and have emailed my optician to see what options i have.

Very strange as I would have thought the optician would have gone through all the options with especially as they go up in price :D I have the third type not the most expensive one.

I would emphasize the advice about not thinking about them then you'll get used to them quicker.

I suspect with a tablet you are closer to it and much of the screen will be blurred due to the very narrow in focus window on the lenses.

Specsavers explained and showed me what vision you get with each type of lens.

If he didn't explain to you the differences in lenses I would think you should complain. He also should have advised you the risk of not being able to use them and you should be able to get your money back (as its the first time you have had this type of lens)

My Optician who I have had for years once made up a pair for me and when reading in the shop, they were fine a few days later they were not to my satisfaction, so I took them back and he ordered another pair, the frame did not suit the prescription ,
Go back and have a chat, they are to expensive now a days

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

When I last changed my bi focals I picked a larger frame than the ones that were being replaced, collected and everything looked o'k till I left the store.
On leaving the store I fell/tripped on edge of kerb, grazed palm of hand and grazed both knees.
Taken back into opticians with assistance there the optician told me the point of graduation was wrong, new lens had to be made to correct problem.
So any problem take them back!

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

Well they're another, highly annoying, issue but once you've spoken to someone about an important matter the clock has started ticking and I think they're more likely to act promptly if only because they've been made aware of the issue - something which wouldn't be apparent until an email had been opened and read. What I tend to do is make the call then follow it up with an email confirming the name, date and time of call. I wouldn't rely on just one approach or the other for something I considered important and/or urgent.

No not in all cases as some still have to take tablets and some on type 2 have to have insulin due to the diabetic medication having a adverse affect on other ongoing conditions that they have.

I inject five times a day and the needles I use are only 4mm long.

Anyway if you want to talk about it - let me know, always here :)

Thanks dilli.:tu:

Sorry to hear this Den but, as Dilli says, you'll soon find it's no big deal. :tu:

Getting a bit fed up with my mum - she seems largely oblivious to my dad's situation and how her attitude is making his last few weeks/months more painful than they need to be. Right now he's caring for her a lot more than she's caring about him and I'm very disappointed. Frankly I expected more of her.

Same with me den, it was always a case of when I became diabetic. Still struggling with it now, but hopefully all the weight I have lost last few months should help the sugars.

Yes food wise changes are already being made but losing two stone more would be nice.

I don't think a career in cooking awaits for me. I managed to burn scrambled eggs this morning. Toast I can do fine, curry I can do fine but eggs? No chance.

What about whisking an egg into a microwave resistant dish, cereal dish fine, then microwave on high for one minute. Place the cooked egg between toast and sprinkle some onion salt on!

Sprinkle on curry powder. Then you've touched all bases. :D

Christmas presents or should I say that the wee one thinks me and his Dad are loaded. My little darling thinks he is being good at only asking for 3 presents ipad, Xbox one bundle and the iphone 6 LOL he has no chance in getting all 3. He needs to come to terms that we are now a one wage family and he can't get everything. I was tying myself in knots over this but no longer as this is just too much IMO.

So very true den and many nowadays land themselves in debt just to get their children the latest gadgets and I can promise this that is something we would never do as my motto is ain't got the cash for it save harder ;) don't get me wrong I learned that lesson the hard way by having debt many years ago when we were just starting out.

Cross with myself, forgot for the first time to leave enough money in bank to cover my sub to Adobe Creative Cloud. Means a trip to bank tomorrow morning, which is a journey I could do without. Looking after a relative who had surgery on their bunion Monday. Had to break the bone in 3 places to fix it!

Crikey you take more tablets then l do dilli and you still manage to remain optimistic and a example to us all.

Remember whatever tomorrow brings no two days are ever the same.:)

i can't remember them all - Natalie makes me up one of those weekly pill boxes for me.

Hope the medication is keeping you well!
Nowhere as many tabs do I take through the day, just the problem of taking tabs with me if going out visiting friends.

I do the same with mine though I take far fewer than you. I also tuck a list of all the meds I take in my wallet as I can never remember all the names and doses/times and worry that I could end up needing the details when I am out for the day.

MalteseFalcon 22-10-2015 20:20

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

It's easier to manage your pills dilli, in a weekly organiser. I did it for my grandmother a few years ago, she used to keep her meds in strips in a bowl, in the cupboard and go through them all in the morning and evening. Now they are all organised, and it's easy for her to just take them all from one section. And she moaned at me when I bought it, I'm not using that she goes. Now wouldn't be without it.

Programmes with options that don't immediately make sense.

I'm using the PCB layout part of a package (Altium P-Cad) and running the design rule checker: Makes sure you're not violating distances between parts of the design like pads vs pads etc.

I got an error report but it wasn't showing me where the errors are. Seems only if I click the check box "annotate errors" will it actually show me where the errors actually are.

Wasted morning.

Split up with my girlfriend, the relationship was very one sided and I was doing all the arranging, plus we weren't seeing much of each other, so we decided to end it. I'll use it as a positive and walk away with my head held high, ready for the next chapter :)

Hubby been told that there is going to be cuts at his work and not to worry that they hope he will be one of the ones who will be TUPE OUT. Yea good advice we just won't worry at all at this news yea right no time of year is good to hear this but near Christmas is an utter nightmare. I will have to look into exactly what TUPE is.

Has anyone heard of this or been TUPE themselves and if so how did that go for you?

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

Something I've mentioned in the past but I've got an example this time.

When you look on YouTube for a fix, answer or solution to something, you find what you're looking for however the person narrating or featuring in the clip wastes time with pretty much useless waffle and background about what the problem is, often including a quick demonstration.

if you're on Youtube looking for a solution and you manage to find it then I'd say the chances are you know what the problem is.

I was looking for a way to change the default search in Edge and I came across this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuDBOL42W7g

Obviously good on the guy for offering help but he wastes the first minute telling us what we already know. So you're there needing to skip through the waffle to just get to the answer. In that clip it's just a minute but a lot of the time it's a longer clip and the waffle takes equally longer to get to.

I understand that some of the time people like to demonstrate how knowledgeable they are and therefore need to explain that they understand the problem and didn't just stumble on it etc but I'd say most of us are just looking for (and would appreciate) a simple and straight-to-the-point answer.
