Ozil is a fantastic signing for Arsenal, looking forward to seeing him in the EPL. Great window for Liverpool and City. Chelsea and Spurs will both I think be stronger than last season too. Man Utd :erm::( not great. Long season ahead for those in the North East, Newcastle fans in particular shafted again. The board really take advantage of the fan loyalty at that club.

International week now :(:(:(

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Relly excited by Ozil. Arsenal have rarely gone a brought a player who becomes their best player, by some margin, right away. Arsenal have brought a world class player and hopefully this transforms our approach in the years to come and we start using the resources brought to us via the stadium move.

Arsenal are on their way back! (I hope)

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

The thing that makes me so annoyed about the transfer market, is the price of players.

I think that prices that clubs are paying is absolutely ridiculous, and no player is worth all that money.

IF, these clubs can pay so much for a player, then they can reduce the entrance fee to the grounds for the fans. Clubs now make millions from commercial selling and tv money. And don't forget Sky/BT Sport now cover ALL PL games.

I can no longer afford to go and watch Spurs. to me a day at the game is price of the ticket £40 quid, price of travel£9.00 and the cost of food especially inside the ground. bottle of water in Tesco 60p - inside Spurs £1.50

I also think clubs should think about the financial crisis which everyone is in. what was for Bale £85 million, Fellani £27 mill absolutely disgusting - and l am a Spurs fan.

OK, so I was wrong about those other signings. But still, nice to see money actually being spent by Wenger.

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Quote:

Update posted on official club website, Tuesday:

Statement From Alan Pardew - Summer Transfer Window:
"We are delighted to have brought Loic Remy to the club in this window and we believe he will form an exciting and effective partnership with Pa**** Cisse.

"Joe has worked hard on numerous targets, particularly an additional offensive player. However some of the options that were available within our financial means were not as good as the players we already had and there is no point bringing in new players unless they can improve us and take us forward.

"We did the majority of our business in the January window, signing five excellent first team players.

"With the strong squad we have we should all approach the season in a positive, optimistic frame of mind."

Almost unique in being transfer-related comments from Alan Pardew that don't include the term "over the line", this latest release confirms that the club were never seriously chasing any targets in the last window, despite these brave words from the manager on August 23rd:

"We have to make sure we get one or two transfers over the line before deadline."

The sheer unadulterated flannel of this statement is even pronounced when one recalls Pardew's message to the fans after avoiding relegation at the end of last season:

"We're very, very lucky to have the support that we got and therefore we owe them a debt next year to make sure that we serve up a better standard of football and better quality of results.

"We showed we’ve got great players. We’ve had some performances out there which were top drawer. We know, in that (dressing) room, we’ve got 80 per cent of the team.

"We still need to make sure we get two or three recruits in there which take us forward. If we can do that, they’ll grow as well, and we’ll be much, much better next year.

"You hear managers taking about needing three players to make the perfect side – Arsene would probably say the same – but we genuinely, genuinely need a couple in that first team that complement the others."
The circus rolls on. The same Pardew that was constantly on about incoming's for an entire summer. The game's up, Pardew knows it and so does everyone else. Newcastle United are simply being used to stay in the Premier League on as little as possible whilst generating millions for Mike Ashley. Buying players for peanuts and selling them for huge money that the club will never see.

How would a club hide such a thing? easy, Newcastle United made false bids all summer long. Making Alan Pardew and the Newcastle fans believe the club was looking to do business in the transfer market. This is a massive repeat of the Kevin Keegan saga and the interview that followed on ESPN. Newcastle made numerous bids for players over the summer to generate news, but they knew fine well not a single bid would be accepted. Gomis and his agent's weren't demanding anything, Newcastle seemed disinterested and weren't willing to offer anything at all.

That could be an interesting game for a welcome to English football. Sunderland need to get going and I'm sure there will be a physical side to them this week. He's got the class to play anywhere but think he'll get kicked a few times.

Also Santi, Poldi & Giroud has debuts vs Sunderland and they also ended 0-0. got a feel it may be different this time around though. normally i'd feel a little nervy but i dont feel nervous for this weekends game. not being arrogant btw, i just feel our squad togetherness will get us 3pts.

Just watched that altidore goal on my phone still sat at Villa Park. Sunderland were robbed. If it's not a goal it's a sending off? Some bogus decisions up and down the country today. It's typical of a league that's just introduced goal line technology to have no debatable over the line situations for the entire season now but rather have an entire season of crazy refereeing.

Bale and CR7 on target but Villareal are a really good side, good game.

That game proved the changes at RM need time to settle. Villarreal exploited it somewhat. do you believe the yellow submarines got relegated then promoted.. crazy stuff good to see the outfit back in the top tier.

203 games 203 goals, sensational. Messi and Ronaldo are by far the two greatest footballing phenom's ever seen. Pele can rant about his fake goals tally he scored on FIFA or in the park all he wants, he's no match for these two.

You take all your greatest players of all time and put them into two players and this is what you get. What I'd give to see Ronaldo back in England and I'm not even a united fan. It's a shame it's unlikely either of them will be world cup winners.

Arsenal are not joking about their intent to pursue Rooney or Liverpool striker Luis Suarez in the January window. Manager Arsene Wenger still has £40m to spend and the arrival of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid has *transformed the Gunners’ status in the transfer *market. Sources in Madrid believe Sami Khedira, the Real and Germany midfield *anchorman, would like to follow Ozil to the *Emirates *Stadium. Wenger won’t have the funds to sign a striker and a midfield powerhouse. He will have to nominate a *specific target. Both Khedira and Rooney will have 18 months *remaining on their *contracts when the January window opens.

I don't think Rooney to Arsenal will happen and its only a matter of time before RM ignite real intent to sign Suarez. I reckon theres realistic options at RM though, I dont want Benzema though.

Really enjoy the Premiership but think the standard has dipped, Spain, Germany and even France seem to be attracting the big stars now. Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal all struggled and failed to buy a striker, E'to :erm:really?

Some very poor sides in the EPL this season.

Not at all Den, the transfer window has closed and the big stars went elsewhere. Premiership failed to attract anyone apart from maybe Ozil. Spain, Germany and even France retaining or signing the best players.

Hull, Cardiff, West Brom, Sunderland, Newcastle, Fulham, Stoke, Palace all crap some average sides out with that too.

I agree with Den. A bit premature.

You can say scottish premiership is poor, because there is emperical evidence.

At the moment, you are judging english pl on a few games.

Nope typical Sky best league in the world mantra. We are discussing EPL not Scotland. EPL does not attract the top players, fact.

I do enjoy the EPL top games but a lot of dross below that.

lol..we are discussing your opinion of the epl. That means I can thus assess what basis you draw that opinion.

In the scottish thread, you mention celtic playing hearts off the pitch, and ignore a ddogy penalty decision. that calls into question your opinion. :D

Nonsense as usual, it was a dodgy penalty but that doesnt change the fact we did indeed play you off the park totally:D your opinion is invalid as you don't even go to watch the side you allegedly "support" rarely pay attention to armchair "fans"

Does the Premiership attract the top European players? And are the teams I listed decent sides? I think not. For what it's worth I never do and never have watched other Scottish league games, the standard is rubbish up here. I go to watch Celtic and the last 15 years our standard has been good. Very easy to knock Scottish football but giving the EPL the bigun is misguided

lol..because you say so, does not make it so..except in your own mind :D

And celtic's standard? Pretty poor. you can't count the occasional lucky result as good performance, lots of teams get that. Delusions do not make a good team.

There are poor sides in every big league in Europe and the PL is no different but as for other sides being stronger then us then perhaps Barcelona and Real Madrid but not any of the others in my humble opinion Henke.:nono:

I just read this on Villarreal..

Quote:

This is a small town. Only Monaco has had a team in the Champions League semi-final with a population below the 40,000 that live here. Real Madrid's front four had a combined cost of €261m. There was a €380m difference in the cost of the starting XIs. Only two players in the Villarreal side earn more than €1m a year; Bale and Ronaldo reportedly make 10 times that. Unemployed Villarreal fans have been given free season tickets.

Nonsense we spent roughly £7 million on players this season. Mid table English sides are spending £15 million on one player. We are also not guaranteed Champions League football we have to play 2 or 3 qualifying rounds almost every season. Yes we make more than any Scottish side by a mile but doesn't stand up to the vast majority of German, Spanish, Italian, French, Portugese, English and probably the Dutch league in terms of TV revenue etc. Not to mention the money sloshing about in Russian football. We do just fine for a Scottish side.

Oh and today's game another thriller from the best league in the world. Gary Neville himself alluded to fact the EPL has been poor this season so far

He's been off on international duty and did an interview for our web site when he came back. When asked how he was settling in to life in the EPL he said
Quote:

“It’s been OK because my teammates have really helped me and I think I’m settling in now, so I’m happy,” he explained.

“When I play on the pitch I just want to get three points and to help my teammates, which is the most important thing for me.

“It has not been easy. It has been a tough start for me, but I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere and the intensity of the game too.

“It’s always very hard to keep the same performance level but I think everything is going well and we’ll see.

“I think every game in the Premier League is always tough, but we are ready for the game and come Sunday we will see what happens.”
I think it'll still take him a while to get used to having less time on the ball.
