Fair enough but at least back the decision up with a reason why VM.

Very possibly not Virgins fault, in fairness, but launching on a European night would have been a great marketing opportunity. Ah well.

They were announced as launching BY VIRGIN MEDIA through OFFICIAL channels this morning.

Why don't we just wait and see what happens shall we?

No other info was given.

But base on the launch of The Afrca Channel.

Virgin Media may try to launch ITV HD channels again within the next two weeks.

No, it's much more likely to be a technical hitch than anything else.

C'mon guys, does everything you plan to do turn out OK first time every time? I'm sure that as soon as this unforeseen hitch is resolved the channels will appear. It's not as if they've been advertising the launch of these channels with much fanfare over a considerable timespan!

Most people will be unaware of the intended launch anyways.

It's a delay and everyone has already been waiting for so long it's not such a big deal. As long as it is sorted out quickly.

We have this all the time from VM, They get everyone worked up and then we expect it then - bang.

Yes, we get told by VM that these are going to launch and then they don't. I used to have a phrase ' VM could not organise a ---- in a brewery, as they would get it wrong. I know that l might get a rollicking from the CFT for the cut out word,. but this always happens on VM. agh

If it's a technical hitch, I would imagine it would be resolved today. VM didn't state what time the new ITV HD channels would launch, just a date, so some of you really need to count to 10 and relax!! ;)

If it's put of till another time, then there will be a decent enough reason for it - watch this space...

Maybe this will brighten up some of your days... :)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

I've noticed a few folk still mentioning about Sky not letting VM have Sky Alantic.

Yes they did, but at what VM considered an unrealstic cost.

There's a difference between holding a channel back completely, and offering it at what they considered a fair asking price. VM didn't agree and so far they haven't resolved that.

If anyone still believes that's not the case, then please re-read this article...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011...a-sky-atlantic

So can we at least start to petition/heckle VM to re-approach Sky to renegogiate? Surely Sky are aware that they're well past the tipping point of viewers switching over for Sky Atlantic and should now offer it openly to other carriers at reasonable costs.

Sorry! I did trace back through the forum till about mid-afternoon yesterday and assumed it wasn't there.

Still, it might remind some folk that not having new channels launch at precisely one minue past midnight on the date stated, isn't the end of the world and that more new and good things are coming.

As the old saying goes:

"All good things come to he who waits."

I seem to recall some posts saying that there was some Sky contract up for renewal mid 2013, which could add some missing Sky channels to TV anywhere, but I could be wrong about that. If that is the case, that would be a good time to talk about Atlantic.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011...a-sky-atlantic I have been saying this for weeks and no one believes me, VM want channels on the cheap and this is why they won't have Atlantic.

I know l tried Sky, and then gave up, but that was because of the problems that they gave me, I had a call from them today and waiting for a reply.

VM have got to get there act together, they are going on the understanding that we the customer, won't pay extra for channels, this is why they are messing us about.

And I'm still waiting for you to show me any other non-Sky platform that carries the channel, Arthur. Surely if the cost is so reasonable you can tell me what channel number it's on on Wight Cable? UPC Ireland? BT Vision? Or are you just going to ignore the question as usual?

As much as people make claims that Sky have offered it at "a reasonable price", the price isn't really going to be "reasonable" while they continue to use it as a USP for their own platform.

Is it? wasn't the first time just a rumour from a source that later proved to be unreliable? You can't really blame VM for that.

I'm sure the penny will drop one day Dave , Sky's core business is TV they spend hundreds of millions a year on it , VM's core business is Broadband hence why they sold all their broadcasting assets and invested it in their BB network. The only content not viewable on VM is Sky Atlantic which Sky currently see more valuable as exclusive , remember Sky don't need to rely on advertising revenue like many FTA channels as they make far more from subscriptions , so that's a total of one channels content not available on VM as the Sky On Demand content is available to VM subscribers.

I was under the impression that Atlantic was sold to Irish channels, but l was wrong.

VM is still not excused for the fact that Atlantic is no on VM. For VM to get a lot of channels then customers will have to pay more, I am just waiting to hear the charge for BT Vision.

But BT Sports is a separate bouquet of channels which will be available to other providers like Sky and Virgin whilst BT Vision is subscribed via just BT.

As far as I'm aware BT Vision is the brand for their non-Youview TV service

BT Sport is separate http://www.btsport.com/

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

What is all the fuss about the delay on ITV 2 3 and 4 HD channels? We have still got the SD variants so we won't miss out on any content. And as for the Sky Atlantic channel, I think Virgin Media are right not to pay top money for it because like I have said before if VM did it would only give them more money to go out and buy more exclusive deals to start another channel to withhold.

But which part of MM's statement isn't true? You may not like it, but it is a true summary of how VM's and Sky's direction differ.

Only hangings and widespread resignations from Virgin and Internet forums will suffice after this heinous let down:mad: I know at least 3 streets in Glasgow that had an ITV4 HD launch party planned for tonight. Rarely felt so let down. I blame Sky and the SFA!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

Today we’re adding 3 more HD channels to our line-up.

ITV 2 HD, ITV 3 HD & ITV 4 HD is coming to our platform on Thursday 7th March. The channels will be available in the XL HD pack on channels 176, 177 and 178.

EDIT: We apologise for getting you all excited, but we're experiencing a few delays with the launch of these channels and will let you know as soon as we're ready to go. Thanks for your patience!

TBH ITV 2/3/4 HD will have some advantages BTCC 2013 springs to mind but ITV 2/3/4 show a lot of older British programmes so the HD version is going to have the large black bars down left & right :(

Right, so the show can be shown in the original 4:3 format they were made in, originally shown in and are supposed to be watched in. Pillarboxing is far better than stretch-o-vision.

That's how 4:3 source material should be viewed!

However nowhere did I suggest that VM should pay over the odds to obtain the channel , in fact I've said many times on here they shouldn't I was merely pointing out that Sky's core business is TV and as such they use Atlantic as a way of attracting and retaining customers in much the same way as VM use their TIVO exclusivity and Fibre BB to help attract and retain customers

My mates Mrs works in accounts at Granada TV, apparently the reason that ITV 2,3,4 HD have not launched today is that Virgin Media have tried post dating the cheque till September, this sort of stuff goes on all the time with 10 bob companys.

Very very unfair calling them ten bob. Without them we'd be trodden all over by Murdoch or have no extra sports etc.
