Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Why aren't you happy? Everyone else is praising the deal, the AST, Swiss Ramble, and it's the second highest deal made ever. Behind only United. Even if you speculate the stadium naming rights are worth a lot (which is difficult since the name has sort of stuck, makes it difficult to convince others) then the deal is good.

thenry 23-11-2012 17:12

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

The name has stuck but it can easily be changed. The naming rights were always to do with the build of the stadium and that has been in the media so anyone who doesn't come to realise that isn't worthy of looking at monies, finances.

The stadium could well be called The Grove as many Arsenal fans seem to like and call it now and then. Anyway its all about funds so naming rights were always going to be on the cards I just feel its been sold off way too cheaply.

150 for 5 yrs. Combo shirt/stadium sponsorship deal. This extends the current stadium rights.

It just doesn't add up for me. The length + the growth of the league and surroundings expected = crap deal when it comes to stadium rights. I don't agree with whats been said about the value of our stadium naming rights.

---------- Post added at 15:55 ---------- Previous post was at 15:53 ----------

also has the training kit sponsorship been thrown in ?

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

I hope that Levy is sick to the stomach, Harry should be back at Spurs and not managing a club that WILL be back in the championship next season.

Harry did a miracle with Spurs, but QPR are at the bottom of the league, not in the position that we were in. I can just see the face of Levy when Harry goes back to The Lane, and the Spurs fans sing out 'There's only one Harry Rednapp'

MalteseFalcon 23-11-2012 22:28

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Why would Harry want to stay at a club where the Chairman didn't value him? I'm glad he's at QPR, means I can go back to liking him. Couldn't stand him when he was at ****.

Arthurgray50@blu 23-11-2012 23:57

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

There is apparently a rumour going round on the internet ie facebook etc that IF Spurs lose at West Ham on Sunday, then AVB will be the next manager to be sacked.

It is understood that Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman is not happy with the result at Arsenal and the decline of the club in the Premier League.

Has anyone else heard this rumours ? I don't have facebook or any similar websites.

MalteseFalcon 24-11-2012 00:13

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Wouldn't surprise me if it is true, haven't heard those rumours myself. Trouble is, there is no patience in football anymore. 2 bad results and fans scream sack the manager. Boards listen to it, and in the majority of cases, the manager being sacked didn't deserve it.

I've never been a fan of Chelski, mainly because of a petty feud between me and my stepdad who is an avid Chelsea fan, but di Matteo did not deserve to be sacked. OK, he lost a few games. Who doesn't? Look at how many games Wenger loses each season, yet do the Arsenal board sack him? No. Although saying that, I think patience of either fans or board, maybe both, will run out soon. It's remarkable in the day of Abromavich wanting instant results for his cash that there are teams willing to stick with their manager through thick and thin.

They got hammered by Arsenal, stuff like that happens sometimes. United 6-2 Arsenal?

You're only 6 points adrift from the top four and 2 points adrift from Arsenal.. Definitely a load of crap.

Indeed Harry should never have been sacked but it happens and you have to move on and accept there's a new guy in charge. If you continue to throw support at Harry Redknapp and not AVB then who's really bringing the club down?

Looking at the time Ferguson has been at United, here is a breakdown of how many managers each club has had since November 1986; including caretaker managers where listed. Some interesting figures I found.

Arsenal: 6
Aston Villa: 12
Chelsea: 18
Everton: 11
Fulham: 14
Liverpool: 10
Manchester City: 18
Newcastle: 23
Norwich: 22
QPR: 27
Reading: 16
Southampton: 22
Stoke: 18
Sunderland: 16
Swansea: 20
Tottenham: 21
West Brom: 27
West Ham: 14
Wigan: 14

changes for the game at Villa.

Arsenal: Szczesny, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Arteta, Ramsey, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Podolski, Giroud
Subs: Mannone, Sagna, Vermaelen, Wilshere, Coquelin, Arshavin, Gervinho

not a good idea including caretakers in the list, they might only have been there a week and it somewhat skews the figures when you consider we've only had 14 permanent managers in our entire history.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

I am pleased that Harry has gone to QPR, lets clear up several pointers regarding his stay at Tottenham.

What happened at Tottenham was that we lost terrible ground due to the court problems and the possible England job, Spurs stood by him all the way, but when we failed to get into Europe, Harry had to take the blame.

I am surprised however that Levy appointed AVB, he was sacked by Chelsea for failing to produce, but the chairman pays all the bills and controls the club, and don't forget Levy doesn't control Spurs, its controlled by a Multi Millionaire and what he Say's go.

and whats that when its highly likely we could drop out the CL due to a decline in player qaulity performance? like i keep saying the norm is not to pay average 50+k. thats huge sums of money lost where we could have players brought in willing to perform.

January cannot see just Henry come in. i know having him around can only be a positive but beating dead crap with it wont work. we need qaulity. theres funds available and funds that could be created not to mention funds coming in now from renewals. soo many options yet only 1 lame path Wengers opted for!

---------- Post added at 21:08 ---------- Previous post was at 19:58 ----------

Arsenal fans at Villa were boo'ing and chanting 'you dont know what youre doing' directed at Wenger. i cant really disagree tbh. hes obsessed with this crap just getting over the finishing line when it clearly doesnt need to be like that.

I watched the football chat show at 9 on sky. They mentioned that Arsenal want same league placings (top 4) but not having to spend the money.

They can't have it both ways.

If financial fair play comes in,..Arsenal will find it just as hard, as it will eventually bring the rest towards Arsenal, but not elevate Arsenal.

How would that work? Financial Fair Play would mean that income needs to be balanced against expenses and Arsenal have a pretty large income in comparison to the rest. So we'll be closer to Chelsea and City whose ability to spend would be, theoretically, reduced. However I can't see how other clubs would be brought closer...

I still don't understand how this means Financial Fair Play will harm them rather than help them. First of all Arsenal don't have a financial benefactor so the non-FFP route was never available to them anyway, whatever Arsenal do spend comes from their income. FFP doesn't give other clubs more income...Instead everyone will have to depend on their income and Arsenal the 2nd most wealthy team in the league by that measure.

Second season was always going to be harder, you don't have that momentum and surprise factor. People got wise to their scouting as well, one of the senior people at Newcastle said they've had a harder time getting players as people are now alerted when Newcastle show interest in a player.

I hear that Harry wants some Spurs players and Crouch, my god QPR must be desperate.
Tarrabat won't be at QPR long, he wasn't rated by Spurs and they sold him, l think that QPR need more than Harry, Joe and John Bond to save them. its championship football next season.

Ah, Anti-QPR now because your precious Harry found a new club :p:

Taarabt was Championship player of the year when they came up and has been a good player but a bit iffy, if anything he'll be going to a better club. You quickly forgot the Free-Kick that condemned your spurs to defeat last season then?

If Harry Redknapp wanting Spuds players makes QPR desperate, what does that say about your spurs

Harry is a brilliant manager, but l feel that he has taken on a lot of hard work, and QPR won't survive, They should have got Harry weeks ago when it was feared that Hughes would go.

I don't blame him at all, I blame gaydamac's gun running father and the succession of stooges he's had installed since walking out, people say Harry spent loads but he only spent the budget given to him and they sold players to real Madrid for 20 million at the same time, that clubs been the victim of some financial finagling for sure.

This exactly. Pompey were playing a right financial fiddle, now look at them.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

A lot of people got fat and rich as a result of Pompey's mismanagement, Harry included.

Hence his foreign bank account in his dog's name.

His record at both Bournemouth and Southampton are surely not great reading on his CV either.

He is seen as a loveable rogue aaway from the South coast.

Jack Wilshere urged to sign Arsenal contract by Wenger

I'm not confident. Why bother? Wait until your contract is near an end and people chuck money at you. Only benefit is cover if your performance drops or you're injured. Walcott has been stalling for over a year now....

It would be very foolish to let a player of Wilshere calibre go but then again l am not the head honcho at Arsenal.

That isn't how it works. The players need to want to sign.

You also need a club which has a vision and ambition going forward and apart from the new stadium they have shown that not to be the case on the playing as we have seen with many of their star players leaving in the last few years whilst bringing in replacements which are not of the calibre which they had before apart from the Santi Cazorla signing.

thenry 27-11-2012 15:36

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

it really is time to part ways with Wenger and get Pep in. Wengers vision is something completely different to whats achievable.

Well it sort of defeats my argument if you exclude the examples that show they are 'moving forward'. Building a new stadium isn't easy and few of the big clubs have managed to do, Spurs are slightly on their way now after 10 years, Liverpool and Chelsea are still stuck. It's not as simple as having ambition or not having ambition.

Liverpool have ambition but doesn't mean they can go out and sign Falcao. There is ambition and then what is realistically achievable.

thenry 27-11-2012 15:45

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

its about having a vision to compete on the pitch and getting the best out of the players at hand. we are moving forward yet we could be moving forward a lot faster if the manager pulled his finger out. 'go play' well done.

Could be worse, you could have Rafa Benitez. Why the Hell did Roman go for him, when he knows full well the Chelsea fans remember what he said about managing Chelsea?
