Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Just seen the "upgrade" sorry what all the fuss is about is lost on me. Dumped the left hand box so it seems just to be the change to the color I have to show for it. What a song and dance over so little !!

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Anyone else use pairing between the TiVo YouTube app and the Android app?
While the problem in the old version with the TiVo advertising a different device name before and after you connected has been resolved, the TiVo app now seems to regularly stop responding to the Android app after playing the first video, giving timeouts on any play attempts. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
The only problem I've had since the update with YouTube is that after the 3rd or 4th video I lose sound on YouTube and TV channels after exiting the app. I have to reboot Tivo
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Updated Tivo here in Leeds sometime yesterday afternoon!
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
All areas now have the new UI
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
I got the new UI first, and I have to say, since the box has become slower and slower with button presses becoming unresponsive at times. IPlayer still isn't fixed and stops after about 20 minutes.
Don't like it at all. |

And button presses don't register right away anymore. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
My experience also. I can only assume that now all TiVos have the update that it will be tweaked to get rid of these annoyances.
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Well after the initial pilot update where things were perfectly fast and responsive our boxes seem to be getting slower and slower in the last week or so and l hope this improves soon as this is not what l expected.

Too many gimmicks/apps on it that few use, all slows it down. VMs other boxes/Sky/Freeview are lightning quick in comparison. Most people just want to watch/record TV on their TV boxes (weird I know...)
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
The last technician that came told me the Tivo is slow because it has so much information to process.
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Spider & Ben... seems there's a good few problems with slow TIVO's after the update.
Would be great if u lads could pass the worries/issues onto your TIVO tech dept. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Surely that means it's the total number of users overloading the servers that is the issue here?

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
I'd like to think the new software was written to work well with the current hardware.
The VM TiVo must be around 4 or 5 years old by now, could this be a factor? Is the software too advanced for the hardware? This speed issue does need to be sorted if they want to stay ahead of the game, we have seen the Sky HD box catch up with functionality this year (recently deleted folder & set once series links) |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
The TIVO definitely needs to run more smoothly than it does at present, and the BBC i-Player needs fixing.
I used to be proud to show off my Tivo but it can be a bit embarrassing at times now when waiting for it to respond. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
MODS
Please could we have a new thread for the TIVO problems many people are experiencing? Spider would like specific details, times etc and i don't think we want to clog up any other thread with it. If others think this is not necessary then so be it...just a suggestion :) |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Must admit over the last couple of days I have noticed a significant slow down on the new release. When you press the myshows button the screen goes black for about 5 seconds before the listings are displayed.
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
I think I'd characterise it from my experience so far that within individual areas in TiVo performance is now better, but when switching between different areas there are now longer delays and blank screens.
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
I haven't found my TIVO slowing down at all. Maybe I'm just lucky.
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Same here TiVo is significantly slower since the update....
Cheers Stephen |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Upgrade caused havoc with my levels and had to have the engineer round..
Must agree with peeps who say the reaction time has slowed somewhat after a remote button press... |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Tivo always has been slow for me, a reboot does help temporarily. Thinking about putting a timer on the plug so it reboots every night.
There's too many junk apps/gimmicks on there which few use. I could happily live without the thumbs up/down - never use it. It should concentrate all it's resources on the epg and being responsive to channel changes - this is what its needed for most of the time. |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Pressing 'Home' leaves me with a black screen for 3/4 seconds befor an unpopulated Home screen appears. If I then choose an option I again get a black screen delay before an unpopulated screen appears. Not much of a delay at each stage but enough when added togather to be irritating.
The same thing happens if I go direct to 'My Shows' though there is very little delay in either case once I actually choose a recorded program from those shown. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
So its not my imagination, Tivo is a lot slower. Makes my V+ look slick !
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
I would not say mine has got much slower, but it is certainly not any quicker than it was before the update.
If it is not a known problem at VMHQ SP, who should we be raising this with? |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Have only noticed the occasional slowdown myself on both of our boxes. Two pointers that may make a difference, one being that the green street cabinet is just over the road from our house and the second that both boxes are set to sleep in the energy saving menu.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Just took 2mins 02s to load up Netflix to be useable, below is link to the video.
http://youtu.be/DlXYMPlcsrA Never used to take that long, perhaps a minute or more though. Will try capture a few more of the TiVo screens, but going into Home > On Demand or Search & Discover has been pretty slow of late. Reboot fixes it for a day or so, but then back to a good 4 or 5 seconds usually between screens. ---------- Post added at 01:07 ---------- Previous post was at 01:02 ---------- TV On Demand, this was just after a re-boot http://youtu.be/65JDicERO1w |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Well something weird happened here.
I think when the TiVo update went through it may have been a bit messy resolution wise. The text was quite thin and the purple wasn't as "plum" as pictured. Yesterday I turned the TiVo on and it was as the preview pictures and the Font was much clearer. I checked the resolution settings and indeed it was on 1080i (I hadn't changed it) so am I dreaming or did it really change on it's own? |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Well with the price rise and the fact I could probably draw the menus on the screen faster than my Tivo, seriously considering dropping the TV for a Freeview box. Sorry virgin, but you have balked the Tivo box.
Last night it took over 30 seconds to start playing something in My Shows, I get the feeling it is checking everything against a server before doing anything. |

I see a lot of the 'purple' ring on screen daily, though I rarely saw the 'red' ring.
Having a NowTV box and a Chromecast to use similar features/apps really does show how bad Tivo is at doing good the same thing. |

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Bit the bullet yesterday afternoon - went out to the garage, dusted off the old Sky+HD and scrambled about in the dust behind the AV unit (will clean when the light nights come :)) and reconnected everything. Still worked, so I rang Sky and asked to be put on the Family Pack @ £33pm. OK says Sam, for an extra £5pm I can give you Movies & Sport all in HD, 12 month deal - thanks very much. Now looking forward to next July when I can call VM and say thanks, but no thanks.
Not just the slowness of the Tivo which caused this but it was the last straw. The other problems are not particularly Tivo related but EPG, lack of 5.1 On Demand and even lack of HD On Demand, none of which are problems with Sky. Happy to give specifics if required but I am aware this isn't the forum for those issues. |

Is it me but this TIVo update has made my PVR less responsive for example there is now a few seconds delay to load my shows page, also a odd issue of no picture only sound on a channel on the odd occasions switching between channels using the last ch button with your TV connected by HDMI?

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
I decided to reboot the TiVo last night things were getting rediculious speed wise. So far things are a lot quicker, I will see how things go.
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
I also rebooted last night, although only because I had to turn the power off for another reason, and yes, a noticeable difference.
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Did one this morning as it was frozen on one channel and would not change at all. Quicker now, but then it wasn't that slow before hand.
|
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Im also having these problems with this update. My shows takes ages to populate and keep getting purple buffering circle and as others have said a reboot seems to help a bit but it doesn't last.
I also have another issue since the update. I use TiVo to TiVo streaming for the Sky channels and prior to this update never had an issue, but now everything stutters and buffers. The boxes are connected via homeplugs and using speedtest.net im getting around 60mb through them as I always have done. Also PS3 connected through works fine. Anybody else using MRS? |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
I'm new with Tivo, had it yesterday, I have a few basic questions hoping the experts here can help me out
When I press the right hand arrow, apart from the channel that I'm on showing, nothing else happens, how do set scroll through the channels? If I want to watch a particular programme at a set timed, how do I set it to change channel? Each time I press a key on the remote, it makes a noise, how do I turn it off? |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
On your last question go to help and settings then Audio and then sound effects volume and turn off.

Re: General TiVo Discussion (Full Tivo !)
Ok my box is 27% full .
Set to record Body of Proof ( which I was going to cancel as I have seen it anyway) that is another point set to new only & its not flagged as new The Tivo says it wont record as I do not have enough room !! this program needs 72% of disk space really did anyone test the upgrade. It should be scrapped until it works correctly. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Think it also takes into account recordings scheduled for the future.
|
When loading apps I get the purple ring every time, Spotify used to load up right away, My Nick Jr, Tiddlers and BBC red button all slow at loading since the update.
Grrrrr..... |
