So two news channels that very few people will watch, a more expensive football option than last year, a kids channel and some Freeview channels in HD.

Believe in what you want pal , its your choice who you choose.

Aren't many channels that are added to pay TV low on viewing figures ? , I'm sure we have many homes in the UK with kids who in turn watch channels from Disney.

BT is available free on the Sky platform for those that have BT Broadband of which there are quite a few , ESPN cost £13 for those subscribers without Sky Sports so for this year its a pound cheaper if they sign up before August 1st.

Quote:

There are three key elements to our plan: first, we will step up the roll-out of connected boxes across our base by offering a low-cost wireless connector to customers that have a Sky+HD box but haven’t yet connected it to broadband. We will also launch a new WiFi- enabled Sky+HD box as standard from September, rolling it out to targeted groups of customers who don’t yet have Sky+HD boxes. This acceleration of our connected Sky+HD platform will open up access to the full range of On Demand services, increasing the value we deliver to customers and providing an important platform from which to grow new revenue streams.
Quote:

we are going to enhance our market-leading on demand service. We plan to add more than 20 new channels to our Catch Up TV service and develop the quality of our Box Sets, increasing the hours of content available by around 50% in the next year. Both initiatives are aimed at driving on-demand usage and reinforcing our platform superiority. We will monetise this usage with the new Entertainment Extra+ bundle. In addition, we will expand Sky Store, our movie rental service offering customers the choice of thousands of blockbuster movies.
Quote:

we are going to extend the leadership that we have established in mobile TV with Sky Go. We will add more than ten new channels to the service next year and continue to improve functionality. On the back of this, we will increase our marketing to drive greater usage and upsell to our new subscription service Sky Go Extra. For £5 a month, this lets customers register up to four devices per account and download movies and TV shows to watch offline.

Very impressive. SKY are moving to a place where you can almost completely ignore TV listings. I must admit I never thought SKY would become so dominant in terms of catch up and on demand content. Free wi-fi connection boxes for current SKY+HD customers and wi-fi enabled SKY+HD boxes launching in September.

It is certainly interesting. It looks like the record icon from the SKY+ box but in gold.

So thinking outside the box here. A common complaint from SKY customers is not enough tuners. SKY recently confirmed they plan to roll out 20 more catch up channels to their current list of about 18 channels.

Maybe SKY are launching a new facility where programs from these channels, that will be added to catch up TV shortly after they are broadcast, will have a golden R displayed next to them. You can set them to "record" but they won't actually record from the live broadcast. They'll download to your SKY+ box as soon as they hit catch up TV. This means there should be less chance of your tuners being occupied by multiple recordings.

It would be a good work around by SKY to compete with TiVo's 3 tuners.

One mans disappointment is another mans joy. Not what i was looking for from SKY personally.

Not to worry, I've submitted my idea to SKY. Maybe I'll get commission if it's implemented :D

If you are a SKY customer I'd appreciate your support. Okay I admit it's unlikely it'll ever be implemented however it's worth a try.

I've also submitted it to SKY's project team too.

SKY "push" content to your SKY+ box most nights. A selection of shows and movies they think you'll enjoy from your subscription package automatically downloaded to your box. What I'd like to do is be able to tell my SKY+ box not to push random stuff to my box but instead push this, that and the next think when they become available.

No because push On Demand was launched before the boxes were updated with the ability to download via an Internet connection , its still kept in action for those with older Sky+ boxes and those users who haven't connected their STB to the Internet.

Got to agree. I'm heading that way myself. Once my 50% off deal expires I can't see me keeping SKY Sports. There is an incredible amount of football for free on TV. We've also got 64 live games to look forward to in 10 months when Brazil 2014 kicks-off plus even more sport thanks to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

I will now sit tight and await an offer through the post if one doesn't arrive I'll make do with Chads FTA list and watch the odd time through Now TV , I already have movies for a £1 through Now TV.

What Sky package you got now then MM?

Ive been thinking about doing same thing but for Sky Movies instead and using something like Now TV. If i did the thing i would miss the most would be downloading films from Sky Go Extra

Last year when I still had Virgin Media I cancelled SKY Movies and SKY HD. With the money saved I bought myself a year pass for Cineworld which cost me £15.90 per month. My wife also bought one. We live very close to the cinema so for us it was great value. Plenty of cheap nights out watching the very latest movies. A much better experience than sitting watching movies at home.

Ive got a Cineworld pass and go at least twice a month but sometimes its nice to just stick a movie on from STB

The Android Sky+ app now includes the clash management feature the iOS app has had for sometime it also includes the social features through Sky's investment in Zeebox.

The red prompt now says 'highlights' has it always said that ? Pressing 'I' now allows you to check team lineups , team news , league , scores etc has it always had this maybe I just haven't noticed.

Didnt used to be like that, it used to be just a red button. It looks more HD like now as well IMO

Now you have me thinking. I don't think it did, I think it was just a red button. But to be honest, I only ever used it for champion's league nights

The new boxes have WiFi to make it easy for subscribers to connect to On Demand without the hassle of connecting dongles/boxes , I'd imagine when streaming HD box to box is released it would require a more reliable method preferably Ethernet or homeplugs but its all guesswork until the products launched.

Sky test Ultra High Definition
Quote:

Britain’s first live ultra high-defintion broadcast will take place this afternoon – and as Sky beams Stoke City v West Ham to a select audience at its London HQ, retailers, football fans and TV buffs will be holding their breath. Is this the TV revolution that will succeed where 3D has failed? Is this the moment when, finally, it’s decisively found that watching a match on TV really is better than going to the event itself?
