Timothy Olyphant To Return As Raylan Givens In ‘Justified: City Primeval’ As FX Greenlights Latest Elmore Leonard Adaptation...

...The show returns to Givens’ story eight years after he’s left Kentucky and now is based in Miami, balancing life as a marshal and part-time father of a 14-year-old girl. A chance encounter on a Florida highway sends him to Detroit and he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent sociopath who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and wants to do so again.

As shows like The Expanse and Lucifer have proved though, as long as you tell a good story across 10 episodes you don't need more.

That's no comment though on whether the Discovery team can do that, but the older series did have regular 'filler' episodes to get to the numbers that you don't need to do these days.

That seems a bit of a surprise.
It was apparently losing viewers before it moved to Paramount+, and rumoured not to be doing great after its move.
Then again, the 10 episodes will take past the old magic 100 episodes total for syndication (although its often less these days).

Quote:

Boreanaz said the following about the future of the series in an interview with TV Insider:

“I can’t say. What I could just say is that we’ve done great for Paramount+. You look at the numbers and the streaming, and then we’ve been trending as one of their number one shows for the past few weeks. So we’re doing good for ’em.”

When asked how long he plans to stay with the show, Boreanaz said:

“I don’t know. I think for me, it’s really relative to the stories that we’re telling and I’m excited more so about the switch to Paramount+. I find that that of all the streaming networks, this is a very positive one and they’re very aggressive in the way they do their shows. I still feel like this show moving over there and the potential of going on to another season and whatnot, the show won’t be drastically different, but it will have a slower burn to it. It’ll be more of like what happens in two weeks over a 10-episode order. It’s not just this huge season of — we don’t have to invest so much in certain areas of the storylines, but it may be like, hey, they get up, and this is their day and that’s 10 episodes. It’s very similar to like a 24 kind of aspect, but you really get to really now get under the skin of the characters, see where these men and women are and see how they’re affected from when they wake up to when they go to bed. I think that’s fascinating.”

Chris 06-02-2022 21:19

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Traditionally 100 is the magic number for syndication in the US. Typically a successful series would achieve this part-way through its 5th season. Most getting full season runs would hit 88 at the end of season 4.

Though as has been noted this seems to be less of a thing now, and streaming services don’t order 22 or 23 episode seasons because they don’t have two big broadcast blocks either side of Christmas to fill so it feels like there are less of them around.

Fairly close to the first Reacher book "Killing Ground", but since that was written in 1997, some of the background and Police Car tech are more recent (for example, in the book one his scars/medals is from the Beirut Embassy bombing, this has been updated to Fallujah)

It is getting a standalone movie as well. I am looking forward to it as it will presumably have a large budget with time for establish and expand on a standalone plot line with a big mission and loads of action

Quote:

Paramount+ has now announced that a movie will also be produced for the service. It’s unclear when it will be released but it’s described as a standalone feature so it won’t bridge between the fifth and sixth seasons. The movie will come from the series creative team of Boreanaz, Christopher Chulack, and Spencer Hudnut. Additional details will be released in the future.

Not very surprising … it was a good idea but the scriptwriting was ropey at times, and while I understood they were trying to do “millennials in space” I never really bought the idea that so many self-absorbed, indisciplined young adults would ever be allowed to make up the crew of any space ship in any universe at any time.

It relied too much on repeated acts of gross stupidity to generate peril, which isn’t something I can easily forgive in my telly.

Unsurprising, as Stewart is already 81. There’s no way he has the energy to play the lead in an action adventure series like this. It’s a pity this wasn’t getting made 10 years ago really.

There has been no such announcement (that I know of).

It is a nice series. Typical Police procedural but I really like Nathan Fillion. Really liked Castle too.
