I agree that it is the MINIMUM charge for STANDALONE TV XL but it is also the MAXIMUM charge for TV XL.

Didn't physicists have a similar problem with the dual nature of light, being both particulate and wavelike at the same time?

And? Ofcom are a waste of space. I'm a consumer and I refuse to give Virgin any loyalty when they give me none. (been with them 10+ years since Telewest) It is cheaper for me to move to Sky and get ALL Sky Sports channels in HD plus far more HD channels.
If this £7 charge is Sky's doing then they have royally shafted VM who have been made to look like mugs and expect us to pay for it.

Im past caring now to be honest, if it was a case where they just slammed a extra 7 pounds on my bill automatic i would be kicking right off but to be honest as I have just said in my earlier post I am happy with my Sky Sports SD picture so nothing changing for me

TV XL is only £23 if you take a phone line for an extra £11.99 otherwise it's £29 which was included in the figure I quoted.

I know VM included ESPN but I believe Sky include many channels that VM don't including SS3HD, SS4HD, etc.

I've moaned on here but had a rethink my stance is this screw the Sky channels , each person will have there own circumstances. Let's just get back on track anyone know which channels will appear next. Are there more testing.

Well i have one V+HD box, a V box, XL TV (with SS and SM), XL BB and M phone with line rental, and i WILL upgrade to the HD premium package.

That'll cost me around £100 a month with the line rental.

Sky;

Sky+HD, additional box, all the channels, plus HD and ESPN, unlimted 20meg BB (which definatly wont be as good as VM), phone line with free EVENING CALLS plus weekends (evening is more than ive got)

Is about £106 a month. So im saving £6, BUT i dont get free evening calls, all the HD channels, or as many channels, BUT the Broadband is so good, i can take the other stuff.

So its pretty much the same, depends on if you care more about internet or TV. Im the former, so people.

VM broadband is superb.....unless you want to use it between 4-8 pm when it becomes as slow as Katie Price's record sales. And I'm on 20 meg.

Catch up, Movies and Music on Demand are available for everyone. It's only TV Choice that is either included in XL or for £7 a month if you are on M/M+/L

Can anyone link me to somewhere where it states that the £7 per box is Sky's doing?

I still say if Virgin hadn't have hidden the cost of the HD in the subscription charge then the thought of paying extra for HD wouldn't seem like such a shock now.

Still lots more HD for people like myself who are prepared to pay for it.

Catchup TV OD is available to all.

TV Choice OD is available to TV XL included in the price or can be subscribed by other TV packages for £7 per month.

What gets my goat more than anything is that I've built up a loyalty bonus years before VM took over. I've been on XL TV for less than a year and now if I dare downgrade it, VM will terminate my loyalty bonus of 10 odd years. That is scandalous.

Despite what your bill may say, there is no such thing as a loyalty bonus which is earned through years of being a customer.

You should not lose any bundle discount by downgrading from TV XL unless that discount is dependent on TV XL.

Perhaps if you would care to detail your Advance Charges from your bill here then the helpful people on here will comment on whether you would lose your discount by downgrading TV XL.

I have just had a phone call from the Executive Office (Not Neill himself) but had a very intresting phone call around £7 HD charge and the future of the VIP pack.

Trying to keep this " on topic" I've just signed up for the lot, SS 1-4, (1 + 2 HD) + all
Sky Movies + the HD version, had movies before but not Sports and ? other HD channels as and when announced.
Question,
Any thing more definate than " as and when " on these extra HD channels Sky are
kindly " giving us access to" as part of this extra £ 7.

Got to say that total price increase not too bad, less than VM website predicted.

I noticed that the sky sports hd channels have appeared on 517 and 518, possibly leaving 516 for Sky Sports News HD ?

And by the way, nothing is going to stop me paying a bit extra, it's just the per box thing which I don't like. But, we have been waiting for these channels for so long, so bring em on.

Been on the phone had a chat with CS

He said they have to charge £7 due to sky wanting to continue there HD £10 fee and was part of the deal when they sold VMTV. He said when sky remove their HD fee it would be removed from VM too but said sky wont do that for the next few years.

Couldn't offer me anything only upgrade the V box to a HD Vbox for £35 or £15 self install.

He also said buy a new LED TV that plus the V+ Box upscaling looks just as good as HD.

And I can promise you that is pure speculation on the advisors part. None of that has been in any briefing for staff

Added hd sub to v+ downstairs dont see the point on the v hd box upstairs as its only 19 incher.Thought he may have took my card number but as soon as i said v+ he had the details there and then.

I called cs at 11am they said they didn't have the codes yet and to upgrade online, but cannot find £7 price online.

did that include the activation fee as its supposed to be £49 for that alone :( Upscaling doesn't look anything like HD btw, its a shame so many companies say that when its simply not true.

Also when I phoned there was a recorded message saying I hadn't swapped my card out yet, I have done this already, and our box downsatairs was only installed recently and came with the N3 card, should I be worried? Thanks

People on here need to start appriecating the effort Virgin have put in the last year to secure plenty of HD Channels. ESPN HD for free was a masterstroke. Anyone who has a problem with the latest announcements just go to Sky then. Grass is not always greener on the other side.

Ive been getting the swapped card message and called them to ask. Its a system error apparently and nothing to worry about.

BenMcr - I am charged £24.50 for XL and £20.50 for M broadband, but I do still get a £7.50 discount after trying to leave when Virgin got rid of Sky1. So XL TV & M broadband for me is £37.50. You claim it should be £35.50?

Also, my Sky price included the ESPN charge

You have a BB and TV bundle. The prices quoted by Ben requires a phoneline to achieve the discounts.

The nearest bundle to what you have today is TV XL and BB L which would be £42.50, I think.

PS I have the same bundle as you, TV XL and BB M and pay £1 less than you as I have the original ebilling discount.

A couple of points you have put Sky broadband as free but unless something has changed that is for a heavily capped inferior product. That is if you can get free broadband. If I put my phone number into the Sky bundle planner it comes up with £15 (the last time I looked) and again that is for the inferior Sky connect product.
Second point if you take out tv + phone + internet as a bundle with VM it comes out at under £50 whereas you have it as £57. Something may have changed since I last looked so someone correct me if I am wrong.

I just pre ordered my premuim HD channels... SWEET!! Only on the one box though.

I think they should put all there non freeview HD channels into the £7 per box package now. Or they should definetly put all new HD channels from now on in the £7 per box option.

Customer services are so confused still - at first he said HS was £7.50 per box until I challenged him.

"Matthew" told me that:

TV XL
Broadband L
Sports (incl HD)

would be £61.50

Adding Movies to the above would take the cost to £76 a month.

Then add in line rental of £11.99 and you reach £88/month. Not far from my guess of £91.49 but more than Sky's £78.50. Improve Sky's broadband to answer ahardie and Sky costs £86/month.

So Virgin is £2/month more and you get less for your money.

As you were quoting current Sky prices, it's only logical to quote current Virgin prices and the same services.

XL is £23 after a £1.50 discount it will show on the bill as £24.50. I made no mention of M as it hasn't been sold over over a year now. BB L is £12.50 after a £12.50 discount (when take with the phone) - it will shown on the bill as £25

Because you're going for the non-phone line pricing, and then just going "then we'll add on the phone line" rather than going with the phone line pricing which is discounted.

TV XL, BB L, Phone M and Sports is £68.99 a month, so £75.99 with HD.
With movies it's £73.99, or £80.99 with HD.

Argument between HD value of Sky & Virgin? Virgin everytime.

Instead of counting the number of HD channels (why would you??), count quality HD content in hours. Virgin blows Sky out of the water with on demand, Film 4 HD, Picture Box, now Sky Movies HD...

Could someone kindly remind us all again what superior HD channels we're missing on Virgin that are currently exclusive to Sky... :rolleyes:

I'm a bit confused here. Did you asky them what a bundle of tv + phone + broadband would be? The way you have worded it you are adding telephone afterwards so it isn't a proper bundle price.

That is WRONG.

You end up with the following - BB L, TV XL, Phone M, Sky Sports and Movies with the HD option.

The price for that is £81.99 per month.

Check this yourself on the bundle builder:

For goodens sake, why? Do you want to penalise other customers, just because you have chosen to pay an extra £7 per month for PREMIUM channels.

Free non premium HD channels is what Vigin Media advertise and should stick to.

No one likes the £7 charge for premium channels but it seems to me it is Sky/ofcoms doing, not Virgin's.

Sounds like you are being a bit vindictive to me just because you have chosen to pay more.

Let's forget phonelines and price a bundle with only TV and BB.

The basic bundle is TV L and BB L at £30.50:

Why should he (or she) miss out on the channels they want just because others are either too cheap to pay for them or refuse to pay for them and spite themselves to make some stupid point?

I sent a e mail to the CEO and got this reply back which i cant understand!!!!!

I'm so sorry that we have disappointed you. We work very hard at giving you value for money with the likes of free HD, VOD, free ESPN etc. Unfortunately the only deal we could strike with Sky for third premium HD was to pass on the costs to our customers. It is still £3 per box per month cheaper for Sky with no additional subscription for ESPN.

We are revisiting our top tiers and VIP in particular

Non premium channels in HD (wheather freview or not) have never been charged for on Virgin. It should stay that way im my view. Why should a Virgin media customer even suggest we should start paying for them? Sounds kinda crazy to me.

I have just received this reply to my e mail to Neil Birkett and as speculated it was at at sky's insistence that the £7 pound charge was made.

Well, the announcements have been made and there are mixed reactions. Was surprised to see no Sky adverts in the Sun today but instead a VM advert advertising SS HD1 and HD2 and a BT advert advertising SS 1 and 2 for £6.99 a month each. Anyway, as a non subscriber of sports and movies, I couldn't care less :D

Virgin Media have moved my loyalty bonus to now coincide with my moving to TV XL. Is this even legal? Seeing as Sky Sports is now the same price if you are on M+ up to XL, I asked to downgrade to M+ and was told my loyalty bonus would be terminated, meaning I'd be paying pretty much the same for M+. The only way out was to leave Virgin. This has been confirmed 3 times on the phone by them. I've now left the thieves and they didn't give a hoot. Either way Virgin are utter ****! Oh for the days of Telewest. :-(

Like I said earlier at least Virgin are being upfront this time about the charge for HD instead of hiding the extra charge for the hd channels in the price of a subscription like normal

The only for Virgin to offer Sky Sports HD or Sky Movies HD for free was to put everyones prices up by £7.

But I think Virgin has pick the right one by asking viewers to pay extra if they want them.

If Virgin change that, then they falsely advertised a feature. The Premium channels in HD is a different matter.

What i can't understand is why some Virgin Media customers are asking for something that was free (non premium HD chanels) to be charged for! Is it April 1st?
