I am surprised to read all the moans from people who are going to have to wait a couple of months for extra HD channels - how about the poor sods in Scotland & N. Ireland who, as far as I understand, aren't going to get ITV1 HD at all?
The excuse given is "Customers in Scotland and Northern Ireland won’t receive ITV 1 HD, as STV and UTV don’t give access to branded services from ITV 1", but we can already get ITV1 on channel 853, so what's the problem?
We have to wait for STV to go HD - that'll be never!
I'm surprised I haven't read any comments about this on this forum.
How can we get this sorted - after all, this is probably one of the most important channels - let's face it, BBC HD is only part time and chooses to carry random programmes not all of which benefit from HD presentation.

It's not a excuse, it's a reason. ITV1 HD is a simulcast of ITV1 London in HD, the only reason you are getting the 853 channel is because the audio description feed is only broadcast on the London feed.

It's a English/Welsh regional channel. we don't get STV or UTV :)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

And here is the eventual reply from utv with my query:
Q.
Dear utv,

Itv told me that they forwarded my request below to yourselves but I have not had the courtesy of a reply.

I would be grateful for your comments as it would appear that we are being denied itv HD programming because utv are going their own way. I predict that this will go the way of itv2 maybe 10 years ago when utv would allow cable to carry itv2 as a utv2 was running. Where did that go???

A:

Thank you for your recent email regarding the launch of ITV1 HD. Sorry for the delay in my reply; I am just back from leave.

We are currently in negotiations with ITV in order to provide a UTV HD channel in Northern Ireland in the near future.

We appreciate when viewers take the time to contact us as your views are important and have been seen by UTV senior management.

Best wishes,
Sarah

You are lucky you don't get STV - there is no advantage to this. Since STV became strapped for cash, Scotland misses out on major network series - we get 'wonderful' local content instead.
As ITV and ITV HD are available on Freesat, why shouldn't they be available on Virgin - after all, we are paying the same price as the rest of the UK.
It couldn't be anything to do with the on-going financial arguments between STV & ITV could it?

The following changes should have happened:

23rd. Virgin are to advertise the launch of ITV1 HD on Virgin Channel 113 from today. Not available in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
25th. ITV2+1 to launch on Virgin Channel 116 on the TV Size M pack.
25th. ITV3+1 to launch on Virgin Channel 174 on the TV Size M pack.
25th. ITV4+1 to launch on Virgin Channel 175 on the TV Size M pack.
25th. Quest to launch on Virgin Channel 179 on the TV Size M pack.
25th. Animal Planet +1 to be drop on Virgin Channel 216.
25th. History+1 to be drop on Virgin Channel 235 (Ex-ntl only).
25th. Military History to launch on Virgin Channel 236 on the TV Size XL pack.
25th. Men & Motors to be drop on Virgin Channel 280.
25th. Cartoon Network Too is moving from Virgin Channel 732 to Virgin Channel 705.

The ITV1HD should be a slate saying 'Get Ready for ITV1 in HD. Coming to this channel soon'

Quite possibly, plus STV wouldn't be happy with ITV stealing viewers on their HD channel.

It was never on my EPG. All I have is an ITV HD placeholder, which is a kind of sad as it's a channel I'll never watch.

Quest was fine here but as with cartoonito it just didnt transmit the off air slate when it closed down. Quest came to life with teleshopping at 7am.

E4 HD has left the EPG here too.

The interesting thing is that as I understand it OFCOM believe they can now say to sky..

"Okay take us to court but you have to drop your prices to what we say now'

In the past sky have, how can you say, rather dragged their heels, when it comes to getting to a conclusion in court. If OFCOM force them to lower the prices now one would guess that the Sky legal team would be force fed red bull in an attempt to get the case to court asap.

Looks like Southampton North West (and therefore possibly Salisbury) upgraded to NGTV in the last 24 hours.

I definitely didn't have the New HD channels yesterday morning, but they're are there now (with Cartoonito too)

Good idea it will be even easier to swap actors between The Bill and Eastenders then. ;)
