Of course the V+HD box is still calling the channel ESPN America next monday so not exactly conclusive evidence (particularly bearing in mind how late the EPG is often updated to correct incorrect listings...)

Customer care wouldn't know till the morning briefing 2moro and even then it would be limited detail's and they wouldn't just say talks have broken down its business suicide. customers could leave going to sky over that kind of comment.

If talks between VM and ESPN have broken down, it means that VM wanted it on the cheap, whereas the broadcastors have agreed terms, and the chances of getting ESPN on VM now are remote.

Not as long as Sky customers have been getting ripped off paying extra for crappy HD channels. :D

So Sky Sports HD is crap then? if you want quality you pay for it, Virgin cannot match that, all they ever do is give customers bollox, is it any wonder they are in debt and are selling there channels to sky!!!!!!. So why is the virgin customer sports fan still waiting for espn then?

Because the deal is more complex than the one Sky have got.

Now unless you're going to contribute to this thread, head back to the Sky section.

It's crap that they rip off their customers by charging extra for HD channels when most of them are crap. It's easy to invest when you've got sheep lining your pocket.

ESPN UK doesn't start broadcasting until the start of August. The football season doesn't start until the middle of August. That's plenty of time.

It seems that Andy, has a problem with my views, we are entitled to them, and you appear to twist them around.

VM are trying to get ESPN on the cheap, otherwise they would have had a deal for the customer well sewn up by now, they are always dragging there feet, l read each day on this forum where customers are so fed up with VM that they are leaving, VM have a duty to the customer to provide the best entertainment and sport for us on cable.

We were told for example that we would have SEVEN new HD channels by the end of July, now we are told it could only be a couple and some in September. ESPN are a major network who won't be messed about, there was talk about ESPN having a HD channel, l wonder how long that will take to join VM (if it does). It has taken nearly 11 months for HD channels to arrive on VM, with promises from VM it will be here shortly or imminent.

How do you know if in this case VM are dragging their feet? You know absolutely nothing about what's going on between ESPN and VM, only the same rumours we have. If they were to have ESPN on XL for free, I highly doubt I'd hear you complaining. Although no doubt you'd find something to complain about, seeing as you enjoy it so much.

The complaint will be that it's not ESPN HD. Sky have probably pulled a fast one and insisted on HD exclusivity for a period of time.

http://espnukblog.blogspot.com/2009/...gin-media.html

If that's true it may have been partly to blame for the delay in any announcement.

VM have a duty to their customers (and their shareholders) to try to get channels "on the cheap" as you put it. Should they just pay whatever a channel asks and then have to charge the customer more to pay for it?

ESPN UK isn't airing yet, there's still time to get a deal sorted, until it's on air and not available to VM then what is the problem?

VM are doing their duty to ensure they get the best deal possible, and for that the customers should be grateful, not just incessantly whining that they can't currently subscribe to something that isn't currently available.

Speak for yourself. I now find I am so used to watching HD via Blu-Ray, PS3, Xbox 360, Apple TV, and BBC HD, that it's near impossible to watch anything in SD.

It's just a blurry mess and it simply isn't good enough.

What's wrong with on the cheap, sorry, "at the most advantageous price for the customer"? I see ESPN on Sky being advertised as 'from £9'; if VM can deliver it under that price, then it's not dragging their feet, it's a good bit of negotiation. And as others have pointed out, the channel doesn't start for another week, so there's time yet.

VM have no duty to the customer other than what's written in the Ts&Cs. And that won't include adding new channels at any cost.

Are you on a website saying Sky are good and Virgin are bad? Are you 4? There's a great little indie club in Manchester called 42nd Street, head over there on a Friday night and grab yourself a girl.

Back on topic.... erm....something about HD.

this is getting silly, now, in my opinion.

What has Blu-ray got to do with 'coming soon to Virgin TV'?

Your comment regarding SD as a 'blurry mess' is your experience, based on your equipment and in my opinion the post should reflect that, not be stated as an apparent 'fact' which may mislead people genuinely trying to ascertain what is possible when comparing mainstream TV between platforms???

When did I say I had Sky? I wouldn't touch anything from Murdoch with a barge pole. The man is the **** of the earth.

I just have the cheapest Virgin package (the free one) with a V+ and watch BBC HD. When they add new HD channels I may consider upgrading the package, depending on how good the programming is.

I mostly watch stuff on blu-ray and from Apple TV. The V+ is turned on once or twice a week.

NOTE: post updated as Virgin are now testing with improved video bitrate for Channel4HD and National Geographic HD of 16.8Mbps instead of 15.0Mbps that they were testing with a few days ago. Audio for channel4hd was incorrectly stated as 192kbps .MP2 2.0 it is actually AC3 2.0/5.1 depending on the show and it is 384kbps bitrate. Screenshots have been re-uploaded as tinypic was resizing them to a lower res than the 1920x1088 that they are. HD screenshot of a channel4HD show added too (the e4/channel4 show Skins).

That was CW areas but here is some news on Channels testing in Ex-ntl areas:

VMTest 1 is now also testing the full epg for Ch4

VMTest 2 is now also testing the full epg of National Geographic

VMTest5 & 6 is testing History HD with no Epg.

Apologies in advance if this has already been posted, if it has I can't find it:) but I've just noticed this on VM's TV page, confirmation of the upcoming HD channels by the end of July, with Living HD to follow soon after.

Yes

You need either a samsung 2110 or 3110 box, or you need dvb-c card (no i will not say how if you wanted to do that you are breaking the tc and you ar eon your own how to do it)

The box you need th engineer menu to verify they are testing, viewing the channesl is a little more tricky i wont explain that, try the epg number if oyu seen it in the engineer menu if it works your in luck if not then it complex way to view it a believe

The fact they are testing Channel 4 HD would this mean there is a chance this will come at the end of this month as well.

if they get IPL (cricket) then I can see them needing 2 channels asap. People say US sports don't get in the way but what about time for repeats not everyone has a V+ box or stay up late. ESPN America needed another full-time channel when there's just MLB playoff's, NHL and NCAA Football :(

Hi Andy, you are always saying this about me, l can assure you that l am NOT a VM or SKY hater, l say what l think, and people don't like it, l pay damn good money for what l want to watch, we the customer take all this crap from VM, and we take it on the chin, if VM were honest with there customers instead of keeping them in the dark, they would be a better company.

August 3rd is transmission day for ESPN, most deals have been an yet with VM is the normal 'silence' Its also like HD channels, where are they, probabely still in 'talks'.

Well if the other VM worker says Thursday and has saw something at work to back that up then listen to them, the first and last time I checked was at the start of June! So a lot could have changed. Hardly any customers have asked me about HD channels to be honest so I've had no reason to check it other than when they ask. I have no time to sit and read the Boiler room, as it's been absolutely mobbed at work in the past coupla months. I'm saying August because nothing we've been told by managers or anything suggests that it'll be within the next 3 days so I'm kinda doubtful. But if their TM has advised them of Thursday then Thursday it must be.

Well we will just have to wait till Friday, like I say, I haven't checked as I'm not really interested in when they launch until a customer asks, which they haven't recently.

This is why VM didn't say anything.

Its better to remain silent while working out deals, we got a much better one than Sky who rushed in there first just so they could shout about it!
