Right you are mate. 3-1 do you nicely?

Man U now have to beat Chelsea and Southampton while Arsenal lose to Everton and Birmingham to have a chance of finishing second (there's the small matter of a goal difference of twelve, too). Otherwise the 'World's Biggest Club' finish third for the third time in four years. And Arsenal have had their best post-Premiership title season ever, incidentally (the previous two we had 78 points, we have between 80 and 86 this year).

Plus you've got FA Cup runners up medals to look forward to :)

*cough*

Manchester United have won the FA Cup the most times (ten), followed by Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur (eight).

Manchester United Eight Premiership titles in 12 years

Arsene Wenger claiming three Premiership titles

Nuff said :D :D :D

Digging up ancient history won't help you now. The 90s are as passe as Geri Halliwell and Noel Gallagher. You're beginning to sound like all those bitter Liverpool fans we've seen crouched in the corner of pubs for the last fifteen years banging on about Ian Rush, Kenny Dalglish and winning European Cups in the 70s and 80s.

8 in 12 is great, but two years ago it was 8 in 10. Recent history is not on United's side, and digging up the past runs the risk of highlighting exactly how far standards have slipped.

Standards have NOT slipped. Other teams (noteably Arse and Chelsea) have raised their game, nothing more.

Anyway, congratulations to Wigan for being promoted to the top flight for the first time :)

i'd have to say standards have slipped.. our keepers aren't as good as they use to be.. our midfield is now getting too old and can't perform for a full season and players like Phil Neville, Fortune, O'Shea ( faultless in his first season but has got worse with each game since) just aren't good enough to even make our bench let alone start as many games as they do.. let alone starting Phil Neville, Fortune, Kleberson and Ronaldo all at the same time... who in midfield was supposed to keep the ball out of that 4 !!

Can you, hand on heart, say that Manchester United 2004/5 is as good a team as Manchester United 1998/9? Howard is as good as Schmeichel? Keane '05 is as good as Keane '99? Not many United fans standing with you on that one, Russ. Also, considering you beat us twice this year and will still almost certainly finish behind us, it's evidently not the Arse raising standards that's the problem but getting beat by people like Portsmouth and Norwich, aka the flotsam at the bottom of the league. Arsenal took 12 points off those two, incidentally.

The other team's midfield?

The teams are different, coupled with different/better opposition.

Naturally players will lose their edge as they get older but you're talking of the team as a whole, not individual players unless you're deliberately trying to move the goalposts (no pun intended!)

You're not seriously trying to make a point there......are you??

So the biggest teams don't slip up to lower ones? Chelsea V Man City anyone?
