I think this is either on VM Ireland or the ex Smallworld area.

It looks to be closing so would at least help towards channel parity!

BBC 3 being added back to 106 was to be expected, it avoids or lessens any pressure on VM by the DCMS to promote local tv channels to that slot.

But who would have thought that BBC Three SD Old & BBC Three HD Old would be re-added to the NIT & SDT in early December? Presumably blanket placeholders for any pop-up BBC channels using the CBBC downtime.

Well done to jj20x at the end of the Coming Soon Vol. 1 thread he has only posted SEVEN times.

As of last night he posted 120 times.

It was slightly difficult to think of much to post in the first half of the year. A bit like trying to write a diary and only coming ujp with: "today... nothing significant happened".

Not heard anything about this coming to VM.

It's a bit of an oddity this channel. It's available on Freesat, Freeview and Sky but doesn't always show the same thing on satellite and Freeview!

Well Virgin will need to start getting UHD material and not mess about

I think MB deserves a big shout out for his work on these threads and having the patience to keep track of how many posts people make on this thread.

Why does everything with Virgin have to be DNA, as right now we have no UHD

Thank you RichardCoulter and theone2k10 for your replies. :)

Let's hope that the version that VM add will show the ice hockey that you want to see :)

I'll do some digging to try and work it out.

Thanks.

I wonder if VM Ireland will be able to receive Eurobird 9 and show the HD or 4K versions?

Re: Frontrunner TV:

The only difference between the two is that one carries greyhound racing and the other doesn't, so ice hockey should be available if it comes to VM.

Re: Fashion 4K.

I wonder if VM Ireland do get this, perhaps they could also get an agreement to put it onto VM UK?

I suspect that when people were asking for 4K content to be added, that fashion parades probably weren't what they had in mind, but it would be very useful to have a linear 4K channel in the minimum package for people to test out & have a play with their new 4K TV's.

Leicester is right in the middle of a "Project Lightning" area (Leicestershire Villages) which has just gone live, so no doubt a huge amount of installs going on.

I wish they would promote local TV channels to that slot, it would make so much sense, rather than just leaving it as dead space.

It's not really dead space, it's an app, but there are probably better ways of using the slot. Maybe promoting BBC Four to 106, BBC One HD to 107 and BBC Two HD to 108, preserving the PSB content of these slots. I'm not sure that the DCMS would be entirely happy with that approach though.

There are a lot of areas not covered by local TV and a large number of local TV channels which haven't agreed terms for carriage on VM. Surrendering 106 to local TV would leave it empty across much of the network.

Then again, from what I've seen of some of the local TV stations, any slot they land in could be considered dead space. There's a lot of room for improvement.

People with 4k TVs are currently a minority. Given the size of TV that most people buy and the distance they sit from it, there is not a great PQ advantage with 4k. Therefore, it is not surprising that VM are not rushing to spend more money on 4k content ATM. I'm sure in time that they will.

As has always been the case, for those who want the latest content ASAP. Sky is the place to be.

That always used to be the case but there's plenty of must-watch shows on at the moment on Amazon and Netflix and they are increasing in number.
If VM could get Amazon, I think it would finally be equal to Sky on content although Sky would have an edge in 4K content.

I think PB is meaning inclusive with your subscription content both Amazon and Netflix require you to outlay even more. All VM are offering is access to your account on their set top box.

Tivo integrates content from Netflix into its search and recommendations so it does more than simply hosting the app on its box.

Agreed but that still doesn't negate the fact that you have to pay directly to both companies to subscribe at an additional cost to your VM subscription.
