I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Sadly, I was. I have multiple HDDs and one SSD in my machine, and I was planning to install Windows 10 on one of the HDDs.

Everytime I ran the installer, it came up with an error when trying to install to any of the drive (even after I'd "cleaned" the drive in Diskpart and recreated the partitions using the Windows 10 installer. It seems the only solution is to unplug all the drives apart from the one I am installing on which, to be frank, is not going to happen.

Sounds like the problem is not that drive but something on another drive that's causing Windows to be unable to (safely) write a boot partition or boot loader. Isn't really new to Windows 10 (although the non-descript error may be)

TBH, I didn't think the problem was a windows 10 error, and even if it was, it's a beta. You can expect errors. They are, in some cases, part of the fun.

I might attempt the install again, when I've got time to pull the PC apart, and possibly back up and reformat all the drives.

I have been using Windows 10 for a couple of weeks now, I have to say I have not seen many issues and the whole look and feel is a lot better than windows 8.1, I can't say there is much I would change apart from the control panel I like separate icons not the groups

On the Control Panel - All Control Panel Items click on the drop down arrow for View By and change from Category to Small Icons ~ that should sort you out. :)

Had a literal 5 minute look at 10 tonight. Apart from having the start menu back, not much different from 8 to my eyes. Also, as I have my laptop hooked up to a TV via HDMI, I want to keep the same setup going. Unfortunately, 10 doesn't let me do that. So back to 8 for now, and hope the final stable release is good enough for me to upgrade on a permanent basis.

project spartan got installed last night, took a few goes for it to open! just filled the screen with the tile icon, not had time to use it yet.

d'oh this 10049 release has broken bridge networking in vmware, and looking at the virtualbox thread I posted before, is causing different problems in virtualbox :(

I like the way he says Oh the start menu crashes and you have to restart it.

They have still not fixed the icons, the icons are naff to say the least.

Looks like i will have to wait for the final build and see if they get there finger out and fix the start bar and icons or i will be staying on 8.1 for now.

the release candidate sould be newer build when it released at build at end of month so things should be better in than one start menu didn't crash for me when I tried this build icon could change again before final version is released who knows

The problem as i see it is that the icons are bland with no colour, ever since windows 7 the icons have been reducing in form and are now just 2d icons which a 9 year old could have produced.. Those in windows 7 are far richer.

Windows 10 to launch at the end of July, according to AMD

Microsoft surprised lots of people recently when the company announced it was aiming for a summer launch with the new Windows 10 operating system. But thanks to a slip-up from AMD CEO’s we now have an even clearer timeline for the launch.

While “summer” can be seen as a long time range with vaguely defined limits, offering Microsoft numerous chances to push the launch of the OS later in the year, we now have a much more precise launch window and its closer than many expected. According to AMD’s CEO Microsoft is looking to launch Windows 10 at the end of July.

The AMD exec was speaking on a recent financial conference call when she let slip the fact that Microsoft was looking to get the OS out in time for the “back to school” promotions. This, which fits in nicely with previous moves from the company, will ensure that Windows 10 has a high adoption rate out of the gate. Plus a massive launch of a new OS will be an exciting event for both partners and the public.

But, of course, there’s also another side to this story. Many observers were skeptical when Microsoft originally announced the summer launch window, and July launch is barely three months away. Given that many parts of the OS seem to still be in flux, there’s a big question over how well Windows 10 will run and how polished it will be at launch.
