I'm not overly excited about sky sports 3/4/f1 HD as i won't get it if it launches as i dont subscribe to the HD... but still even if i dont get it i just finally want something to launch hahaha

Why does it say though sky and virgin team up in the war against BT? What does signing another deal for sport have to do with a war against BT!? what an absurd comment.

Pocket-lint has also been told that they will come at no extra cost to the existing Sky Premium HD bundle (currently £7 a month

Simple because this deal now means the only platforms with access to all sport in HD and every sport channel are Sky and VM weakening the BT TV offering.

This was interesting as well

those TV customers with subscriptions to Sky Movies and Sky Sports will also be able to access live and on demand content on the go through Sky Sports and Sky Movies apps.
Are these the apps Sky customers have access too ? If so don't you need a Sky ID unless VM are to issue them or are VM launching there own apps ?

It seems to me that VM are launching their own dedicated apps MM.

Virgin Media also says customers will shortly be able to watch Sky Sports and Sky Movies on the move, using dedicated apps.

I'm pretty sure those sorts of questions will be answered in time.

Why would they need to launch dedicated apps?? Surely the virgin media app we already have could do this???

It's a great development though. i'll just need to get unlimited phone data...

Great news for Virgin Media customers. Takes the HD offering up to 61 channels. SKY and Virgin Media are the homes of HD in the UK. BT and Talk Talk will need to step up.

Sky see BT as their main rival now, so are quite happy to do more deals with VM.

Sky's revenues are declining and they are feeling the pinch from the launch of BT's sports channels. So, getting more money from VM for these HD channels is a no brainer for them. It's not as if VM can compete in the sports field by launching its own premier league channels anyway.

Sky's exclusive HD channels have had their day now (exception: Sky Atlantic). Those who really wanted sports in HD would have gone to Sky by now. In any case, Sky are preparing their new "premium" channels... Press reports say that Sky 4k/ultra hd boxes are being made now, so HD will become the new SD soon. At least that's what Sky are banking on.

Then it all starts again....:( How long will it be before VM get Sky Sports 1 Ultra HD or Sky Premier Movies Ultra HD etc....?

"This agreement builds on our long-standing relationship with Virgin Media"

Well that made me giggle. I had a long-standing relationship with my ex-wife but it wasn't what you'd call a happy one!! A little bit of history revisionism there Sky/VM!

Still, it's a great bit of news.

Confirmed: More channels coming next month.

My insider who told me any more Sky Sports HD coming last week has got back to me with an launch date of June 1st plus some Sports channels will be re jigged as well*.

Also STV has confirmed that STV Glasgow will broadcast on Freeview (23), Sky (117) and Virgin Media (159) from June 2nd.

*Where will they broadcast?

Plan A)
•519. Sky Sports 3 HD
•520. Sky Sports 4 HD
•521. Sky Sports News HD
•522. Sky Sports F1 HD
•523. EuroSport
•524. EuroSport HD

Or plan B)
•501. Sky Sports 1
•502. Sky Sports 2
•503. Sky Sports 3
•504. Sky Sports 4
•506. Sky Sports F1
•508. Sky Sports News
•511. Sky Sports 1 HD
•512. Sky Sports 2 HD
•513. Sky Sports 3 HD

Aye all makes sense!

The only question is why still not able to agree terms for atlantic. has to be stubborness? If anyone wanted atlantic now they'd have gone to sky or at least gone to now tv. I think sky don't want to give in and accept VM's lower offer and appear to be seen as "giving in". which makes no sense really.

I hope sky sports news hd comes along quick !

I wonder if Liberty Global were behind the acquisition of these new HD channels or if they were in the pipeline before the old rιgime bowed out. If it's LG's work then I wonder if there will be any more HD channels coming soon.

I'd imagine it was the old regime who started the process. Liberty Global so far have shown utter contempt to tv channels and instead want to give us "third party content" which we then have to pay on top of our ever increasing bills with VM...

rant over.

I really can't think of anymore big HD channels we're now missing???

Still, it's a great bit of news.

Compared to the bad old days Virgin Media and Sky have very much a Entente Cordiale now based on the same aims and that is to bring other competitors down a peg or two.
