Just read about this! Very happy to see VM take the lead in offering the fastest speeds at a very competitive price.
I myself have always opted for the lower tier & therefore pay a little as possible & am always happy to wait for free speed upgrades even if it take a year our more.

Very happy with this news cause I was thinking on Upgrading to 100mb!

Anyone know if the upload speeds will also increase with this upgrade? I wouldn't mind 10mb Upload also :P

Also can my modem handle the 100mb speeds? VMNG300?

100Mbit requires a SuperHub

What do I need to do to get my broadband speed boost?

In most cases, absolutely nothing! We’ll do everything behind the scenes, and then let you know when it’s done. Then all you have to do is sit back and enjoy an ever faster broadband experience.

If you’re using one of our older modems then there might be a little more to it. You’ll still get a speed boost, but we might need to swap your modem for a Virgin Media Super Hub to make sure you get the best from your new speed. If so, we’ll supply the Super Hub without charge. And don’t worry - we’ll be emailing or writing to you in good time to let you know what you need to do.

Will my upload speed increase, as well?

Yes! It’s not just your downloads that’ll become much faster. Your upload speeds will be automatically increased as we upgrade our network, so you get the best of both worlds.

In all honesty I'd rather have a greater bandwidth allowance before STM at peak time than a downspeed increase.

To be honest they might just ignore them and only upgrade those on Shubs :erm:

What about the Ambit 300? They support 100mbit as it stands.

Again, 100Mbit requires a SuperHub.

Virgin only allowed some customers to remain on the VMNG300 modems with 100Mbit due to complaints about the SuperHub and there was no modem mode.

The SuperHub now has modem mode.

No need for the attitude, it was a valid question since there are people out there with 100meg on the Ambit 300's, which you admit yourself. I know Virgin is keen to push everyone onto the Superhub for a variety of reasons (mainly support costs I'm guessing).

Sorry, misread your post. Yes you can upgrade to 30mb now and get 60mb in the future. The new modem will be free. Details here:

I meant the £30 charge, will that be dropped for upgrade?
and will i lose any of my loyalty discounts too?

It seems odd that this will take so long. And its also odd that they are announcing how much it will cost. I wonder if they are fishing for some of that government broadband fund?

With the high calliber of VM staff I'm sure this rule will be stuck to 100% and there will never be any VMNG300's on tiers they shouldnt be :erm:

I'm using the VMNG300 on 100mbit, although as soon as >4 channels are required, I imagine it will be screwed.

Article in the Guardian here http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012...roadband-speed

Interesting bit is this:

Quote:

Virgin Media intends to mostly fund the programme with the remaining £100m of the proceeds of the sale of its 50% stake in UKTV to US TV company Scripps.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

Hi all

I currently have the 50Mb serve with a D-Link DIR-615 modem.

I was considering buying a range extender to give better coverage in my house but wondered if I am upgraded to the 100Mb package with a new super hub modem if the range will be better (so I don’t need to buy a range extender)…..

Any ideas or comemnts.

Many thanks for your time

Regards

Mike
