But we don't live in Sweden for a start and what technology did they use to supply 100mbit to the home? Not the technology that they will be using here.

All companies have the shareholders to answer to. Most British internet connections are not provided by British companies.

The DSL market at the moment reminds me of the situation we had with the first unmetered dial-up startups. They promised everything for very little (or nothing in the case of x-stream) but often came up short when it came to actually delivering and that included established foreign companies coming into the UK. Wait till these companies are actually delivering what they promise with good service levels before you claim NTL is or will be uncompetetive. NTL can hardly be expected to compete with what someone "may" offer in the future, with the exception of BT of course.

The technology that the Swedes used has no relevance to what I posted. I was merely stating it is not run by people who are new to the broadband market. As you well know, but that doesn't make for an interesting 'debate' though

Luckily they don't need anywhere near the cash they did in Sweden where they had to install fibre into the homes

I am sure that the current modems are capable of 10mb and beyond, I guess some one like Ig will be along sonn to confirm this.
The specs for my SB4100 say max 38Mbps downstream and max 10Mbps upstream.
Should keep me going for a while ;)

This is why I hate shareholder owned companies, they hate risks, investments etc. and the company is under pressure to make more profit because the profit is split between all the shareholders. Whilst a privately owned company can have much less profit and remain successful since the profit is split by much less people.

so that slide implies the 1mb customers will be upped to 2mb and the 2mb customers to 3mb and the 3mb customers to 10mb. in the 2nd part of 2005.

Not surprising following BT's announcement that 2mbps is now entry level with them.
