yes it does he has my old pc which i had to have 8 fans running inside the case to keep the 8800gts's cool and also the nb and cpu q6600 @3.0ghz.

it is a passive heatsink and i couldn't get a fan to fit on top of it because of the shape of it.

The 1 I've recommended to people in the past appears to have been discontinued, but something like a Thermalright HR-05 [which I've admittedly not tried yet, but they're supposed to be good] should do the job, & will take an 80mm fan [doesn't come with 1 though].

It's the release candidate of Mandriva Linux for 2009. The panel on the right is a system monitor which you can customise via a configuration/script file to show all sorts of things...

That's started me thinking about what I use to keep my desktop as clear as possible.

I don't know if this has been mentioned on here before but this is what I call a 'magic folder' which pops up from the side of your screen.

Create a new folder on your desktop. Now click on this and drag it to the side of your desktop hard up against the edge. Release it there and it will form a band down the side of the screen.

Now right-click inside that band and set auto-hide on. You should find it vanishes away and only reappears when you mouse to the edge of the screen.

Cut and paste any shortcuts from your desktop into that folder. They will vanish from the desktop but still be instantly available from the pop-out menu.

I have found that Vista makes it easy to keep my desktop clear. The quick search option on the Start Menu only needs a couple of letters entering to locate any programme, hardware, file etc that I want to use and pinning the recycle bin to the start menu finishes the clean sweep.

When I get fed up with shiny I like red. :) I rarely use my desktops so I only see them when switching either of my computers on or off. It's usually this thread that triggers a session of desktop fiddling.

It was the lack of shiny I was referring to. I don't see my wallpaper much either, except on my secondary screen, & that's partially covered by magnifier & NetMeter, but I do like my shiny taskbars, buttons, & title bars on progs. I'm currently using a Vista-ish Visual Style that changes the start button to a round 1 kinda like Vista, & without the "Start" caption. Someday, when I can be bothered, I may get around to creating my own Visual Style.

Hmm... I may have to give that another go sometime.
