I have no problem with reading subs, i dont know how to explain it.. ican read them without actually noticing i am and thoroughly enjoy a movie, most people i know are the same...but i know 1 or 2 who just cannot.

Just depends on the individual i guess? i speak mandarin (though some accents/dialect confuse me) so that helps.

Also forgot

Tais-toi! (BluRay)

6/10

Jean Reno was great in this little crime comedy, found it very entertaining, takes me back to how good british comedies used to be :D

I would of rated it higher but i find Gérard Depardieu annoying.

And

Evolusi KL Drift

6/10

On the same sort of quality of Initial D but with more racing/drifting and less talking :D

The Godfather Parts I and II. I tend to count them as one because the two stories combine well (IMO).

Both 9/10

Beautifully shot, excellently directed, excellent acted and excellently written. Both films excel in just about every way they can.

Even though if you watch both of them together, you spend 5 hours doing it, I really didn't notice the time going.

Have you saw the orginal called [REC]? It's much better imo, even though it's a scene-for-scene remake. The original one is in Spanish too.

Latest film for me was Crank. I must say, it's a very good film. It has its very funny moments in it. I'll give it an 8/10.

Outstanding and by far the best movie of the year the Directing of Clint Eastwood and acting of Angelina Jolie and the rest of the cast.is a balance that's just right the story and tone in which It's told is perfect i've not seen a movie that send my emotions of a roller coaster ride like this in Many years.

King Kong [2005 remake].
Good points:
  • Naomi Watts all wet & dishevelled, running through the jungle. :naughty:
  • some of the action sequences

Bad points:
  • dialogue was pretty naff
  • seemed to drag on too long
  • really big bugs [fake, but very creepy if you're not a fan of the smaller real-life equivalents]

Also agreed, I never thought I'd enjoy it but I thought the film was very well directed and the actors were very good. It's based off a true story too, which I found fascinating from the way the police handled it.

Last film I watched was Britannic. Never heard of the actors in it, but it was surprisingly good. The CGI wasn't as good as it was in Titanic, but that is to be expected as they had a far smaller budget, but still I enjoyed it. 9/10 for me.

Come on it deserved way more than that. It wasn't the mighty blockbuster it was made out to be which I think left myself and many others disappointed but on its own merit it was still quite a good movie. Without spoiling the plot I have to say though I still don't quite understand the way the US govt behaves towards GORT.

I'd rate it about 7/10.

Oranges are not the only fruit 3-part TV play (1990)
Novel and screenplay by Jeanette Winterson

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098032/

I had no idea what this film was about but, while browsing the DVD shelf at the library, vaguely recognised the title and noticed it had won a couple of awards. Of course Mrs A had read the book and was, let's say, not over enthusiastic about my choice.

It's about the early life of Jess from age about 6 'til she goes to Oxford Uni. On the way we discover she is adopted by evangelical, fire and brimstone parents who are most unhappy when she turns out lesbian. Through a series of events Jess learns to fight her own corner and eventually leaves home, gets a job as a mortuary attendant and passes the Oxford entrance exam.

The acting is remarkable - notably from Emily Aston who, at the age of 7, plays the young Jess and Charlotte Coleman who plays the older Jess. Geralidine McEwan won a BAFTA for her portrayal of Jess's adoptive mother. The sometimes difficult scenes are handled very well.

However, at 3 x 55 minutes, the movie is interminably long and drawn out. We discover a little of the motives of Jess and her mother but the other characters are simply cutouts. There is no depth and layering. Worst of all, many of the scenes are just unbelievable. Would a teacher, even in the early 60's, really get a child to stand up in front of the class and read her life story on her first day? Jess seems to live in a town populated almost entirely by women. And, of those, a goodly proportion were friends of Dorothy. Clearly, I inhabit a different world but these statistics seemed most improbable. And, although the two Jesses were very similar, the older Jess's eyebrows were clearly a different colour from her hair - difficult to sort but glaring in every close-up shot - of which there were many. Others seem to find it a classic of it's time (read some of the IMDB comments) but this film did little for me.

The DVD also has an interview with Jeanette Winterson. She protests that 'Oranges...' is a novel and not an autobiography yet one-by-one she reveals she experienced the basic elements of the plot. Perhaps this also revealed the cause of my reticence. She is certainly articulate, knows a good deal and can argue her point. But I'm certain she is often wrong - and will not be persuaded otherwise. I got the impression that this is a woman I would dislike intensely.

What made it 10/10 for you?

I thought it was the strangest Bond film to date, it felt like it had no real story behind it and it was just an A-B trip with a bit of action but with no emotion / story behind it at all nor with any of that Bond feeling you get with all the others.

For Casino Royale which was fresh and updated without all the gadgetry which started to kill the Bond series off etc, Casino did have that Bond story and feeling which worked quite well and proved that Daniel Graig was worthy of being Bond. So I'd give it a good 8/10, but for Solace it lacked everything every other Bond film had, so for me a good 6-6.5 at most if comparing with Casino.

Still it has to be one of those film you have to watch regardless of the critics and the scores you see and read. Glad you enjoyed it.

Watching it now, love this movie, seen it at least 20 times, I'd rate it 10/10

Blade - 8/10

Blade II - 8/10

If rated solely for coolness, & how much of a bad-ass Blade is - 10/10

Blade Trinity - 6/10

Too much "Nightstalker" action, & not enough Blade. I had heard that was due to Goyer thinking of doing a Nightstalker spin-off, which would make sense (not that doing a spin-off itself would actually make sense, as that would suck).

Jessica Biel is super-sexy as Whistler's daughter Abigail, although the whole iPod thing is stupid. Still, at least she's better than...

Hannibal King. I can't remember the name of the guy who played King, & I don't want to. The character was an irritating arse, rather than what I assume was meant to be some sort of ill-judged comic relief. Blade's face whenever King speaks says it all...

The only funny thing King said was a joke about lesbian vampires.

Other than that, he was a <beep beep>, & seemed out of place in what is meant to be a BLADE MOVIE. I want to see Wesley Snipes killing vampires with loads of cool weapons, not some unfunny numpty making jokes.

The dogs were also bloody stupid. WTF was up with the whole Reaper mouth thing?!

Oh, & Drake... Although it was amusing seeing Prison Break's Lincoln Burrows as a vampire, I think the whole Drake thing was crap in various ways. Ah, he's got a "segmented snake style skeleton" so he can shapeshift, of course... And WTF did he have a Reaper mouth when in monster form?

Funny seeing BSG's Leoben as a vampire too.

And the main vampire chick was quite fit.

Also, the ending of the Extended version makes no sense. If they wanted to remove the bit with Drake-as-Blade on the autopsy table, they really should have also removed Drake's comment to Blade about a "parting gift".

Still, at least the final cut didn't use the godawful warewolf ending...

I did quite enjoy Trinity, & I enjoyed it the 1st time I saw it a few years ago or whenever it came out. But watching again it straight after re-watching the first two really shows how poor it is in comparison...

Pretty decent thriller. Sam Jackson really is a bad mofo in this movie, lol.

I found the twist rather obvious, but it was still a very enjoyable movie, with some excellent action.

-----------

Conspiracy - 9/10

Excellent fact-based BBC/HBO dramatisation of the Wannsee Conference, at which Reinhard Heydrich & other Nazis discussed how to go about the "Final Solution to the Jewish Question"...

Very well made, with a top notch cast (including Kenneth Branagh as Heydrich, Stanley Tucci as Adolf Eichmann, and Colin Firth as Wilhelm Stuckart).

Changeling - I wasn't expecting to like it, but I actually really did! 8/10.

Set in the 1920's and quite sad in parts, directed by Clint Eastwood.

I thought this was excellent as well, very powerful, they could have so easily been discussing a mice/cocroach infestation. (If you didn't know the truth.)

I bought this on DVD a few years back. A must see.

Here goes......

Last night: "Underworld" (DVD) - good, better than I expected. I'd give it....7/10

Just finished watching: "Equilibrium" (DVD) - surprisingly very good. Good story, good cast, great action & fight scenes. Easily better than the awful Matrix Reloaded & Revolutions. Score: 8/10.

Recently, Match Point - Scarlett Johannsson and Johnathan Rhys Meyers, brilliant, I cannot admit how many times of have watched it, embarrassing!! Great idea by the way nicked or not! HPNY 2009.

I started watching the third one,Tokyo Drift,on ITV2 last night but had to turn it off & get some sleep, before it knocked me to sleep.
Watched most of the first two the previous couple of nights and while they weren`t quite so bad their more my lads cup of tea than mine.

Will be watching it just for vin!

Fast & Furious are somewhat boring though, mostly fake cgi and slow speeds with speeded up frames to make it look fast.

Don't even come close to the real thing aka initial d, speedway freeway, evolusi and so fourth.

Watched Predator 2 *BluRay* last night

5/10

Not as good as i remember, still prefer the first one.
