Sky have two UHD channels which are only accessed via menus or the red button - and both are part-time with live events only. But the programmes can be recorded.

Fair enough. I clearly misunderstood something I read.

There's no Sky branded UHD channels yet then, the customer presses red to switch to a hidden (from EPG) stream.

BBC Studios who now own UKTV use the BBC Brand around the world:

You have made a good point. I think this would be a bad move for the BBC as it would cause confusion to be called BBC and have breaks.

If GOLD does get rebranded BBC Comedy I can see Eden, as part of a possible relaunch, being renamed BBC Earth, as it operates in many other countries. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Earth_(TV_channel)

Given its ratings, I wouldn't be surprised if Eden went Free-To-Air though. BBC Studios have a slot on Freeview they could potentially use, namely the Dave Ja Vu slot, and it would likely get them higher ratings than that +1, and almost certainly no worse, so better than Eden is currently getting.

I agree. Plus many don't realise the BBC own UKTV and would be annoyed because, in their view, the BBC shouldn't make money in other ways, even though it's being doing so for a very long time in various ways.

Totally agree, it would undermine the rarionale for the licence fee. For this reaon, I can't see this happening now.

Perhaps BBC Knowledge may make a return to UK screens too as that airs in some other countries still.

Why would you want to draw attention to this nonsense? People who want this crap should go to the internet, which they can get what they want for free. Much more explicit, it to boot.

Not that I am endorsing that, of course :erm:

Q: Why is Sky Sports Racing HD not on Virgin Media for?

A: Base on information found by Media Boy HQ on Wikipedia We can confirm that Sky only part own Sky Sports Racing (Sky own 50%) with Arena Racing Company.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_(company)#Ventures

We did think Sky own about 73% of Sky Sports Racing before tonight.

Sky Sports Racing HD is not on Virgin Media because Sky don't want it on there thus there is no carriage for it , Arena Leisure have no influence on Sky's decision not to carriage it at all.

I highly doubt that Den , Sky gives access to all its other key Sports channels in HD and has even signed a deal for its UHD offering on VM.

Sky Sports Racing HD is hardly must have exclusive.

They obviously are applying the same sentiments as they did to the sport and movie channels which were in SD for a fair while before they coughed up for the HD varients in time.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)

There must be another channel reshuffle on the way on 5th November. PBS America have just tweeted the following

Quote:

We're on the move for our Virgin Media viewers!

As of Tuesday 5th November, PBS America can be found on @virginmedia 273.

Our channel numbers for Freeview, Freesat and Sky will remain the same.

See you there!
https://twitter.com/PBSAmerica/statu...10624812294144

Given that's History2 HD currently there must be a bigger change on the way.

---------- Post added at 11:16 ---------- Previous post was at 11:11 ----------

Currently EPG is
271 History+1
273 History2 HD
276 PBS America
277 Forces TV

So they could have just moved up to 274, since 274/275 are empty. Either PBS said wrong number, or channels above them are also moving.

---------- Post added at 11:18 ---------- Previous post was at 11:16 ----------

It could be as simple as History2 is moving up one to 272, which is empty, and then everything below is moving up.

---------- Post added at 11:22 ---------- Previous post was at 11:18 ----------

I've just scrolled along the EPG to 5th November mentioned in tweet.

LoveNature HD is moving to 275 on that date according to programme data on the 294 which was vacated today.

Given this means PBS will be on 273 and LoveNature on 275 I'd guess it's likely another channel will be moving to 274.

Close to what I was thinking. They tend not to like changing order of broadcasters though to keep them on-side, so it's more likely ForcesTV will be 274 and Smithsonian on 276.

272. History 2 HD (Not Confirmed)
273. PBS America (PBS Confirmed)
274. Forces TV (Not Confirmed)
275. Love Nature HD (Confirmed by Virgin Media)
276. Smithsonian Channel HD (Not Confirmed)

TiVo says the following channels is Lifestyle Channels

I'm not sure why you say that, but we'll see. I am pretty sure they won't charge extra for Pluto on their premium packs.

There are pop-ups now showing regarding moves on 5th November.

PBS America moving to 273
Forces TV moving to 274
LoveNature moving to 275
Smithsonian moving to 276

Oddly not one currently on History2 HD, which must be moving as it's currently on 273.

The 'press red' for Sky On Demand access has been removed, so is no longer available on Sky One, Sky Witness, Sky Arts etc. There isn't any obvious reason why, as all the on demand content from these channels remains in Catch Up & Box Sets.

La Liga coming to Virgin and Amazon?

Via https://www.digitaltveurope.com/2019...amazon-for-uk/

In sports rights news, Amazon is reportedly eyeing a deal for La Liga rights in the UK and Ireland. That is according to La Liga president Javier Tebas who recently spoke with SportsPro.

The league’s current deal with Premier Sports is in place until the end of 2021/22, and the exec said that it includes “flexibility” for other carriage deals with regional partners including Virgin Media and Amazon.

Tebas also showed no regrets over ending the league’s long-standing relationship with Sky Sports, saying that the offer from now defunct Eleven Sports was too good to refuse. He added that the then-fledgling broadcaster was offering four times more than Sky, while Sky offered five times less than the previous year.

Premier Sports settled on a deal with La Liga in September, following months of turmoil for the league. The previous season, La Liga signed a deal with OTT platform Eleven sports, but that was abandoned after the service failed to attract enough subscribers by December. Following this, Premier Sports and ITV were handed the rights temporarily to cover the rest of the season, with Premier now being the sole La Liga rights holder in the UK.

Have anyone noted that after Tuesday Virgin Media will have only one space left in the "Factual Channels" (Channel 277) before "Lifestyle channels" start with Food Network on Channel 278.

If I work in the EPG office at Virgin I would axe Lifestyle and move Factual to start at Channel 260:

Factual & Lifestyle:

231. Food Network
232. Home
233. Home & Health
234. Discovery Shed
235. Travel Channel
236. Home +1
237. Home & Health +1
238. Horse + Country

260. Eden

262. Eden HD
263. Discovery Channel HD
264. Animal Planet HD
265. Discovery Channel +1
266. Discovery Science

268. Discovery History
269. Discovery Channel +1
270. Animal Planet +1

272. Discovery History +1
273. Nat Geo WILD
274. Nat Geo WILD HD
275. National Geographic
276. National Geographic +1
277. National Geographic HD
278. Together TV
279. HISTORY HD
280. HISTORY +1
281. HISTORY 2 HD
282. PBS America
283. Forces TV

Well La Liga president Javier Tebas has not exactly got a great track record in making the right decision as his now defunct Eleven Sports deal was a clear and unmitigated disaster from start to finish which he had clear and prior warning about but when one chases the false rainbow one inevitably comes unstuck.

Now only one man and his dog watches it when at least when it was on Sky Sports it was getting far more coverage and a far superior coverage.

Amazon well we have been there before with your much heralded Nostradamus predictions if my poor memory serves me right and there l will end it as sadly that chapter did not end well and l do like to finish my book with a good ending.;)

JJ20X on Forumbox has said the following have "Changes to channel codes and subscription packs".

Boomerang, Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, Nick Jr Too, Nick Junior, Nick +1, Nicktoons, Nickelodeon, Turner Classic Movies.

As I'm on the Fun tier I could already get all but one of these, so I can only confirm Nick Jr Too has changed, but not which tiers except Fun.

---------- Post added at 09:20 ---------- Previous post was at 09:08 ----------

Actually as an old channel guide confirms Boomerang, Cartoon Network, Cartoonito and Turner Classic Movies were already on Mix, so unless they have been made available on Player/Mixit, which is unlikely, I doubt anything visible to the average customer has happened with regards to them.

So the obvious changes to most will be the Nick channels, which should be on Mix now.

Aye La liga had a good thing with sky sports and now they have a lot less eyes on their competition on a third rate channel like premier sports.

I think amazon probably would have more subscribers on prime than premier sports so they probably should have gone with sky sports, BT or amazon in that order! Instead its...premier sports.

La liga popularity over here is being ruined! Such a shame too as it was most peoples second favourite league. They really shot themselves in the foot!

Well I've seen more La Liga than ever before because it's on Freesports several times a week. I saw no full matches previously. I appreciate it's not the same, but having some Free-To-Air is going to bring new eyes to it.

JJ20X has now clarified on Forumbox the changes made.

Basics are:
The Turner channels and Nickelodeon are all Free To All customers for a period.
So that explains why the Turner channels were in the list given this morning. No indication how long everyone gets them for though.

5 Nick channels are being added to Mix tier and 1 to Fun tier.

Further clarification: only the main Nickelodeon channel is Free To All customers for a period, not all the ones changing tiers today.

It's an interesting change, as it gives yet another good reason for Mix TV customers not to change to Mixit TV as they would lose so many channels, now even more.

I think VM are gradually try to align Mix with Fun and Fun with XL so that effectively anyone on a middle tier is upgraded to the top one, so that the middle tier disappear gradually. Else they opt to move to Mixit and add Personal Picks.

Maybe so, but it's Amazon who is vying for the rights to La Liga, now, Spanish football is very watchable, and IMO this would be a big gain for Amazon, and another way to show that they are indeed interested and capable of showing top football games.

If they can get them cheaply then yes l don't see anything wrong with that but my sentiments about the far more expensive football rights from a business point of view still stand as the business sums have never added up for Amazon there.

Correction Eleven sports uk, eleven sports global is quite succesful.
The uk just isn't big enough imo for so many players in the streaming world.
Amazon are a different fish entirely they won't make the same mistakes Eleven sport uk made.

What makes you think they would only use Virgin TV Edit if it were a permanent change? It's VM's primary editorial communications platform, they have articles about most things including temporary rebrands of channels and the limited time access to certain services on channel 100. I know they've used used the Channel Guide page and the PDFs to show 'freview' periods for channels in the past.

When I say TV Edit I mean the Channel Guide page. It's the only part of it I look at regularly, so I forgot about the other parts. Sorry.

I don't recall the Channel Guide section showing "freeview" periods previously. But if you remember them that's good enough for me.

No worries. It's actually worth checking out all the other parts of Virgin TV Edit, particularly the Your TV Week and On Demand sections. One of the better produced things from VM.

RXTV: "Expected changes to the Box Plus Network to happen in 2020".

Quote:

Meanwhile, seasonal music has arrived on the Box Plus Network family of channels, with Box Upfront (Sky 358, Virgin UK 330) becoming BoXmas and the latest channel to get a seasonal rebrand.

It's the first time Box Upfront has been given a Christmas rebrand, in a sign of a change to come at the Box Plus Network, which was acquired by Channel 4 earlier in the year. It comes ahead of expected changes to the Box Plus Network in the coming year under its new ownership.

Do anyone know WHAT 'expected changes' will happen to Box Plus Network in 2020?

I see Virgin TV Edit, once they got the graphic on the webpage fixed, confirms History 2 HD is moving to 272 along with the other, already known, number changes which are happening today.

It hasn't been updated to reflect the repackaging of the Nickelodeon channels.

Amazon Prime Video still listed on 228, but it's now on 205.
