I've never really had any problem with Windows 10, on the occasion Windows has gone tits up it was right after installing an update which left me not able to boot.

I loved Windows 7 but Windows 10 runs better than 7 did, i am not saying 7 or 10 had any real issues but 10 just performed better on my PCs, i much prefer the Windows 7 theme though.

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion
The problem with windows 10 Is has always been the M\S Not fully checking updates the latest one installed today was a nightmare siezed up the desktop and stopped firefox running . took nearly an hour to sort that out.
Windows XP and 7 Here in use as well amount of threats detected has almost vanished so M\S Panic measure not to use EMAIL and WWW On WIN7 this week usual Rubbish. my XP Dell runs a programme that 7 or 10 Will not so its in daily use. The Antivirus is updated as is Firewall software . i spend more time Sorting M\S W10 out than i want to so M\S get it Right |
Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion
I was one of those that stayed with win7 almost to the end, hated the thought of going to win 10. But as I use Oculus a lot I was forced to update it begrudgingly. But I have to admit I worried over nothing. I actually don't mind 10 at all. It's not that much different to 7 and things are running better than before.

I'd like it to patch like Linux does and doesn't need reboots at all except to load new versions.
The worse part of Windows updates is when you shutdown at work and it says updating don't turn off PC for you don't know how long. |

I've been making extra sure of backing up my system and hiding Windows updates to avoid them being installed.

I tried so many different things about cleaning up temp files, manually deleting update files to force it to redownload, tried burning a dvd and booting from that, running from in windows etc, used https://www.ccleaner.com/ the free cc cleaner, and either it was that that was needed to remove a broken file/link to a file/clean up some temp file, or a lucky coincidence that that and the other stuff like from powershell Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth from admin cmd prompt sfc /scannow rundll32.exe pnpclean.dll,RunDLL_PnpClean /DRIVERS /MAXCLEAN chkdsk c: /f /r made it work, i was at last straw before doing reinstall, wasted so much time letting it update reboot, then go "no, rolling back" |

Took the plunge and allowed the May Update. MS have screwed up YET AGAIN. Same old problem of losing access to your user profile. Been happening for months.:mad::mad: When are MS GOING TO SORT IT OUT.
Managed to undo the update and then "hide" it, as otherwise it will simply install itself again. No doubt all this to look forward to again in a months time. ---------- Post added at 13:40 ---------- Previous post was at 13:30 ---------- Quote:

If you bought a new car, and it was in for safety repairs/recalls every few months, would you buy another of the same make? I'm actually wondering how these 'professional' people can get it so wrong . . . constantly  |

Mine for a start, Win 7 Ultimate (SP1), first thing I do on a fresh install is disable updates. I guess it depends on how paranoid you are and whether you're susceptible to all the security hype created by those who's job it is to tell you about all the nasty and horrible things they've found, and which their brilliant security software can nullify . . often at a price. There are also those among us that can't recognise a scam email, dodgy internet link or a spoofed website . . . no amount of security updates will help them ;) But hey ho, each to his own . . no matter how hard they push you to conform :) |

I don't even know why you bothered to install the Service Pack, if updates are such a terrible thing. Given Windows 7 is EOL, the least you could do is one final update so at least you're not years behind with patches. It's interesting, you're basically saying you wouldn't trust a locksmith because they're trying to sell you a lock to keep your house secure. Why, nobody's robbed you before, so it must be a scam, right? Right. |
Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion
Don't install the last W7 update. It screws up the stretch wall paper function amongst other things.

Try clearing the cookies associated with Youtube.
I had the Youtube app on the smart TV stop working due to it using out of date cookies when Youtube changed its layout. I had to clear the cookies in the TV browser ( Opera ) |

Will try this, Is Opera better than Google Chrome or it it just much he same, Does anyone know, ?

I recently started using Firefox on Mobile after some Chrome issues and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised at how far it has come. The last time I tried it, it was bloody unusable. The new version only works with a couple of extensions but one of them is uBlock Origin so that's fine with me (And Chrome supports zero).

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion
Had to roll my PC back to previous build a few months back after the update completely stalled the system. Programs/apps took ages to open or wouldn’t open at all.
Did the full update again 2 days ago and although it took about the same length of time as yours it seems to be working ok this time. Just in the middle of updating the wife’s laptop this very minute. |

Im a big firefox fan, cant go wrong with firefox.
Ive used it so long since Version 3.6 infact. |
Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion
I spent years on Google Chrome as it was way faster than Firefox, then Firefox got just as fast so I moved over to that for a year or so, then Firefox screwed up big time over the course of a weekend where their add-ons didn't work so that's when I moved to Vivaldi and couldn't go back.

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion
I stopped using Firefox years ago, Chrome just came out of no where and knocked it out the park so I moved over to that. Because Chrome was so good, everyone else started stepping up their game, which is why we have Vivaldi, Brave and even Edge Chromium.

Not sure if it is related to the last update but I have noticed the response from mouse clicks seems a bit erratic since the update. Thought it might just be my PC but was using my wife’s laptop yesterday and that is the same?

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion
No issues here have you tried googling it or updating mouse drivers?
You could remove the update and see if that fixes things. |
Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion
Yep, googling reveals it as a long term, well documented problem. Did update mouse drivers with no real improvement tbh.

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion
After an initial failed update to 20H2 repeated again tonight.
For anyone waiting to update it was like being on the old dialup, 200Mb max but the download was on a dribble feed speed in kbps. [Will try and see how things work out] |
