Sunderland target Sigurdsson to replace Sessegnon

From Sportsmail's Colin Young: 'As Stephane Sessegnon nears the exit door, Paolo Di Canio is looking to bring in Spurs’ Gylfi Sigurdsson.
'The much-travelled Icelandic midfielder was AVB’s first Spurs signing but could now be allowed to leave on loan for a season.
'The 23-year-old has played at Reading and Hoffenheim and fits the bill as the creative midfielder Di Canio wants, especially if Sessegnon joins West Brom.'

Indeed so Shadow and they also say the League champions should continue to build from a position of strength and MU are no different from any other league champions and that's why they need to make a couple of signings in my humble opinion.

Yeah Ba won't be automatic first choice IMO. At the moment Giroud is in form so won't be dropped whilst Podoski will challenge for that position as well and even Walcott might fancy it.

Again, Podoski is a striker. He can, and does, play on the wing for us but he is primarily a striker and has done best in that role. If we get Ozil then Podoski can either cover for him/Walcott or Giroud in the center

Borini makes deadline-day move

Forward joins on loan from Liverpool.

Sunderland have completed a deadline-day deal with the signing of Fabio Borini from Liverpool.

The 22-year-old Italian forward has joined on a season-long loan from the Anfield club and is the club’s 12th arrival of the summer.

Borini moved to England as a teenager after being snapped up by Chelsea from childhood club Bologna.

He made eight appearances for the Blues and joined Swansea City on loan in March 2011, turning in a string of impressive performances to help the club win promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

A total of nine league appearances yielded a return of six goals, while he featured in all three of the Swans’ play-off games, including the final.

Borini then returned to Italy with Parma and then Roma, where he fired 10 goals in 26 appearances.

His impressive progress in the Italian capital prompted a move to Liverpool, where Borini became Brendan Rodgers’ first signing having previously played for the Anfield boss at Swansea.

After joining in July 2012, he made 20 appearances for the Reds and featured against Sunderland in a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light.

Borini featured regularly for Italy at youth level and has been capped 18 times for the under-21 side, including two goals in three games as the Italians reached the final of the U21 European Championships.

The striker was also named in the senior squad for Euro 2012 and has one full cap to his name.

Defender Dossena signs

by Stuart Vose

Second deadline-day deal sealed.

Left-back Andrea Dossena has become Sunderland’s second signing of transfer deadline day.

The Italian, who joins countryman Fabio Borini at the Stadium of Light, has arrived from Napoli on a one-year deal.

Dossena, 31, made 24 appearances for Napoli last season as the Italian side secured a second-placed finish in Serie A.

Born in Lodi, Dossena rose to prominence with Hellas Verona before moving on to Treviso and Udinese.

He joined Liverpool in July 2008 and made 31 appearances during an 18-month spell with the Anfield club.

The defender joined Napoli in January 2010 and racked up 93 games in all competitions, as well as spending time on loan at Palermo.

He appeared in the 2011-12 Coppa Italia final as Napoli beat Juventus 2-0 to lift the trophy at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Dossena has been capped 10 times by Italy at senior level.

Honestly I was sure United we're going to go in for Ozil. Apparently he was open to that ahead of Arsenal and he would have suited you perfectly. Can't understand it but very happy about it.

Oh I can. Moyes has brought his small-club mentality with him to Old Trafford.

Apart from keeping Rooney, nothing the United board has done this transfer window has made sense. If they want Fellaini, why not buy him when he had the release clause. Instead they wait and end up trying to get him for a similar amount now. Ridiculous situation.

Out of his depth against Chelsea and Liverpool, after losing to the scousers he claims United "played well"? The many is WAY out of his depth.

Rumours in Newcastle tonight claiming the reason Mike Ashley refused to do summer business is because he's opened talks with Mikhail Fridman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikhail_Fridman) about the potential sale of the club.

Regardless it doesn't matter now, we're set for scenes similar to the ones of the Kevin Keegan departure to add to the misery.

Many believe Mike Ashley will then go on to take full control over Rangers. Best wishes to you lot :dozey:

Same with Chasing Fabregas for half the summer but never really testing it. How much money are United really backing Moyes with?

No I've been criticising him since it was announced he was taking over. There has been nothing in the way United have played in any of those games that suggests he's the right man for the job.

Exactly, they all of a sudden got Arsenals problem (old Arsenals problem now) and not spending the extra bit to get the player they want, messing around with no conviction. Its putting massive pressure on Moyes, which is massively unfair on him.

You know NOTHING of me as a football supporter. United won't win anything with Moyes this season. If they do I'll happily come back and state I was wrong. Don't hold your breathe though.

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Even though Ozil is a brilliant buy. And we've got a keeper in. It does not excuse the club not being able to bring in a CF. Real Madrid are lunatics, they were willing to hand Tottenham Morata as part of the Bale deal but the player refused of course lol. We also needed another 1 in midfield, DM/CM to ease the pressure, versatility, make shift CBs and FBs. 2 players short and I'm going to fume seeing Bendtner wear an Arsenal shirt. total disgrace.

"Judge me on signings" OK. You're ****.

So in the end United just couldn't get anyone over the line, despite those countless scouting missions and expressions of wishful thinking from the manager.

Exactly what many feared when JFK reared his ugly head again has come to pass: a self-proclaimed Director of****all role that was really minister of misinformation.

Like the idiots who let off flares at games, Kinnear's task was to create a smokescreen. Provoking all and sundry - be they players, punters or pundits - unsettling those already in post and misleading the masses into expecting some positive action to take the club forward.

The only tasks JFK doesn't look to have achieved yet are in seeing off the present manager and using those global contacts to attract a sufficiently large bid for Cabaye.

All the talk, all the planning, culminating in that seven hour meeting in France - when the only plan looks to have been hoping for a perfect, flawless season. That's one when the players avoid injury, suspension or loss of form and no off-field misfortunes befall them.

There's no need for strength in depth or cover - after all, it's not as if we'll have all of those unwanted extra Europa League ties? And why sign players for Pardew? he's done little with many of the previous signings and it was his fault we had to spend all that cash in January.

So why waste more wonga - he's going anyway. Stop up, take the cash, take the **** out of those gullible Geordies. You almost want them to be proved wrong, that's how genuinely screwed up this place is.

For a club obsessed with saving money and reducing head count, there are two quick ways to trim the wage bill: abolish the roles of the Director of ****all and Chief Scout, on the basis they have no discernible purpose.

One signing, a loan arrival from a relegated club that was all but completed back in January and was a replacement for the departing Demba Ba. That's hardly great value for money considering all those telephone calls, air fares, hotel bills etc. never mind the two salaries.

The annoyance here is that we've seen this all before - and not just this time last year, when Pardew was persuaded to agree that his fringe players were strong enough to step up to the plate. They weren't.

The shortcomings of many previous seasons have been repeated in what may be the ultimate false economy and short-sighted piece of non-business.

So what do the coming months hold for JFK? a few more cringeworthy interviews or perhaps a well-earned family holiday. As he himself said recently: "When the transfer window shuts it’s back down to football and nothing else but results."

The window may be closed, but the clock is still ticking. Like a set of shirts, Pardew has been hung out to dry. And while this all plays out to a sorrowful conclusion over the coming months, the damage done to this club grows more incalculable - and the body count mounts.
Crisis truly in full swing at Newcastle United tonight, they've finally went and lost the fans. Let's be honest though.. Who didn't see this coming?
You don't have to be a Newcastle fan to have known it was going to all blow up at some point. There will be a meeting held on Thursday from various fan organisations and other club related people to discuss the potential boycotting of Sports Direct and Newcastle United matches in general.
