Re: The Xbox One Thread

I think it's something like "Xbox, watch <full channel name>"

Planner control... I think that bit needs a SmartGlass update.

The current SmartGlass has basic play/pause/F/R PVR controls, but I had an XBL message this morning saying that a preview version of SmartGlass is available (links in the preview forums) for Windows/Android... I guess that will be the version that adds the OneGuide and additional PVR controls.

Although as I'm on iOS I guess I'll have to wait for the public release :(

Re: The Xbox One Thread

Right now I don't believe "Xbox, watch channel" works. The post about this going live says this:

Quote:

Voice Control of OneGuide – will be limited to “See It, Say It” functionality. In other words, if you can see it on the screen and it is highlighted in Green, then you will be able to navigate with your voice. The ability to say “Xbox, watch <channel name>” will be limited or non-existent during the early stages of the OneGuide update preview.

When watching TV you can go to a channel by saying Xbox watch (Channel Name). It works for me. Only channels that are in your favorites will work thou. Also the new SmartGlass beta app is in Play store for Android devices. Also in Windows store for Surface. Not available for iOS yet thou. I like the new beta SmartGlass. Can change channels via the One Guide on it oh and it now allows you to rearrange your Pins however you want them and it updates it to your Xbox One as well

Can anyone help with the Strict NAT issue and SH2
I've tried everything, even investing in a pair of powerline adaptors.

My son is driving me nuts - he can play online but not communicate with friends.

I had this problem and solved it (with help here) by going into the X1 settings and giving at a static IP.

Then in the SH2 you will need to go to the Port Forwarding section and open the following ports 53, 80, 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500 (Protocol to both TCP/UDP)

I have used DHCP to reserve the IP and opened all ports via DMZ to this IP and it's still Strict.

I even purchased some powerline adaptors and tried the wired option, still Strict.

RUMOUR

Someone on the Plex forums has claimed that he has been granted membership of ID@Xbox *specifically* to develop a Plex app for the Xbox One.

He is *not* a member of the Plex dev team, nor any other kind of Plex employee.

*If* the Xbox One were to gain a Plex client, it would mean that people could finally enjoy "pull" streaming like on the 360 and PS3, instead of being limited to the current crappy "push" streaming.

Yeah, I've seen that. I've not seen any other remotely decent site report on it, though. I only found out yesterday 'cos someone on DS mentioned it, so I Googled and found mention on Reddit that linked to the Plex forum thread.

Not sure if other sites just haven't bothered yet as it's the weekend, or if they're avoiding it because it's all currently rumour based upon someone making claims on a forum.

First of all if you are opening ports manually to your Xbox do not use a DMZ so undo this first, turn off UPnP and all firewall features on the router. Do not turn off NAT.

http://portforward.com/

Follow the instructions from the link above and be sure to set up static ip to the Xbox. It may be worth checking the DHCP list of the router first to get the Mac and IP address of the XBone.
1. In Brown writing near the top of the page pick the one that applies (How to port forward the Xbox one) your console.
2. Then pick your router from the list, Supper hub one and two are made by Netgear. Then scroll down and pick Virgin_Media_Super_Hub_2 from the list.
3. Follow the instructions on how to set static IP and what ports need to be opened for your make of router.
4. Power down the router and Xbox for a minute and then do a multi player network test in settings on XBone. (Nat Open?)

I did read that for call of duty ghosts you may also need port 3075 to be forwarded. This may well be linked only to people that also have a 360 on their network?

Also I have had a problem with XBone mic not working due to the way the kinect associates which profile to who is holding the controller. So you can try turning off Kinect, or before loading your game select settings then kinect. Here you can see yourself with your profile name above your head.
Do you see a controller next to your profile name? If not make sure kinect can see the lights on the front of the controller and press a button. Now you should see a little controller by your name.
I have been drinking so am struggling, I will check back tomorrow.

Think of your router being a public building with many departments and front door security, you have one bouncer called NAT who is checking everyone who is coming and going. Another called firewall that is also checking all who come and go after NAT. Forwarding ports manually is telling Nat to let friends in and out of the gaming department no delay( xbox static ip).

Setting a static ip address to your console is like telling your gaming department not to ever change rooms in the building as you are about to tell the bouncer to send gaming friends to this room only.

Putting your console in a DMZ is like opening a fire door to your gaming department so all can come and go to that particular room (ip address) with no bouncer, but locking the internal door to the rest of the building. Example stopping the console from using Xbox smart glass on a tablet or phone, think of each device being a different department with the ip address being the door number of that particular department.

With UPnP turned on you also have a third bouncer telling Nat who can come and go? Things at the door are now becoming slow and complicated with Nat allowing friend to come and go but then firewall stopping them making mistakes and slowing the process turning away friends. Opening up your ports is telling Nat to let friends in and out no questions asked to a particular department only( xbox Static ip).

So sack Firewall and UPnP. manually give rules to NAT ( opening up ports). And things will improve at the door!

Remember to always power down the router after saving new settings. In fact power all internet devices including Xbox for a minute. After reading everything on the net about which ports to open and trying many configurations just follow the instructions for your make and model as all routers are different, the guys at portforrward have already done the hard work.

Thanks for the hint mate but I give up! Followed it word for word and still getting a strict NAT.

Looks like I'm going to have to move to BT or Sky.

It may not have rolled out to you yet, or you may already have it and not realise. Some people already had silent updates and so would not notice if there was a new version.

It's a bit of fun but I really struggled with the kinect in my small room. Kinect 2.0 is better width wise but when doing the rock climbing, it just cant see my feet and arms at the same time :(

If you play on your own I wouldn't bother. If you play with mates or family then I can see it being a good bit of fun.

£50 though is a lot for a game you will just pick up now and then and not really put hours of gameplay into.

Matt,

Having read through your posts I know for a fact you're far to intelligent to pay £50 for a game. So as you probably already know on Amazon you can buy a £50 credit for £44 with a free £5 included.

I particularly like this:

Quote:

Silent reboot after system updates and system update on demand now available. If your console is in Instant On mode, the update will happen automatically and return to standby upon completion. This means you won’t need to power on your console after an update moving forward. If you want to take future updates when available without waiting for your console to do it on its own, we’ve added this option under system settings and you’ll be able to use it next update. It will only show as available when there is an update to take.

I have just worked out how to share digital games as there is 2 xboxones in my house, mine and my sons, so instead of buying two copies of a game disc i can now download a game and share it with my son, so we can both play online at same time.

You can share downloaded games with one other person.

No wonder digital games are more expensive.
Think this will now save me a small fortune :)

---------- Post added at 16:09 ---------- Previous post was at 15:58 ----------

Two users, two consoles

So a single console with multiple users is pretty straightforward. But with multiple consoles, things get a bit more hairy.

For starters, you need to deal with an Xbox One feature called "home Xbox," where each user that is signed in to an Xbox One must have one console that is configured as their home Xbox. (If you only have one Xbox One, then that will be the home Xbox for all configured users.) When you configure a console as your home Xbox, any user that signs in to that Xbox One can play any of your downloaded games without having to first sign in as you.

Read that one again, because it's important: When you configure a console as your home Xbox, any user that signs in to that Xbox One can play any of your downloaded games without having to first sign in as you.

That means that the converse is also true: On a non-home Xbox One, users will need to sign-in as you before they can play any of your downloaded games.

Re: The Xbox One Thread

Guys, really need your help, bit of a story, and I'm not even sure you can help me, but this is my first visit and post after a Google search.

OK what it is, I'm the owner of Cranky Gamers UK gaming podcast, and I regular twitch stream, from both my Xbox One and PS4.

Now here's the major problem, yesterday I finally upgraded my Sky internet to there new self instal Fibre, with there new snazzy black box...and yup, went smooth as anything, literally unplug and replug all cables in, and withing minutes my speed had gone from an abysmal 5meg download, and 0.5 upload, to a respectable 34 download, 9 upload.

So yup was well pleased, however on my first twitch stream yesterday on the PS4, it failed with an error, and upon checking I cured the problem following instructions changing the primary and secondary DNS settings on the connection to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. respectably, and sure enough..alls well worked fine.

Now to the xbox one today....I will say my poor speeds prior to fiber actually wouldn't work at all, just said speeds not good enough.
So couldn't wait to try my new settings....however, just would not work...
and by that I mean, it started broadcasting, and even says live on the xbox one, however nothing ever appeared on my channel on twitch, cranky gamers UK.

So fixes I have tried are...obvious with an xbox one, hard reset lol,
then I uninstalled Twitch, reinstalled, even disconnected old xbox settings on twitch, and then even re input a new number to connect to the xbox one.

So anyone any idea whats happening, just seems to me that the new Sky hub as good as it is, has thrown a spanner in the works of both consoles...working with twitch.

any help much appreciated.

one final thing i forgot to mention, I also changed the DNS settings on the Xbox, to the same as above..but no joy...also tried both wired and wireless connections, but still no luck.

thanks for your time and patience reading this.

j

I had a problem with it not recognising the word 'yes' for turning the Xbox off 2 updates ago, doing a hard reset of the console fixed that though.

Well the price of the Xbox One is down to £309 already (£314 with Titanfall bundled). I reckon they'll drop further to about 250 ish, it has to. A kick in the teeth for the early adopters with all the problems they got with the price they paid.

Personally, I think it needs to drop a lot lower than that before I even consider getting one. And it'll be interesting to see how the PS4 prices drop but I think they will go a bit slower on price drops as it's doing better.

Something has to happen soon as the XB1 is a bit of a joke as it stands, its rep has been hit hard, this thread is proof of that. For the price of the games and the hassle that comes with it I'd go as far as saying even at £199 I would still have to give it some serious thought. I'm gutted to be honest as I had high hopes for both consoles.

I do think they should compensate the early adopters in some way or another.

Before the release of these next gen consoles, gaming was at a high, now it seems it's taken 3 steps back. I hope PC gaming will take advantage of this but I can only hope.

I know it's still early days, and I know early adopters will stand by their machines, but from someone who is watching closely to how things are going, the next gen machines aren't an option as it stands. that is for price and for being under powered. We're all waiting for the price drops (for what they are really worth) and for all the fixes to be completed (which is a joke as it stands). But ultimately I'm (and everyone else) is just seriously disappointed.

Kinect sports rivals is currently £42.99 for the digital version, so when bought using cheap vouchers it is cost affective compared to the disc version.

I got my code eventually.

After a couple more emails back and forth where I kept asking them to explain exactly what the problem was, I mentioned I was going to give them negative feedback on eBay...

... all of a sudden they became helpful, and sent me the code once I confirmed three things they would have already known and did not previously ask for: what I bought, eBay name, PayPal email.

Still no explanation as to what the problem was though!

Not using them in future! I'll stick with CDKeys, even if it's ~£40 instead of ~£30.

Just bought Titanfall digital version for £32.96 (including 5% FB discount) from CDkeys.com making a total saving of £20 off the MS store price.

I doubt its that. Maybe Sky just need longer to code the app

Re: The Xbox One Thread

I dunno. It wouldn't surprise me if it was the reason.

MS made a big song and dance about the passthrough and the One Guide, but I think that that feature would have fewer users if the console also had a Sky Go app.

Re: The Xbox One Thread

Now TV:

Going back over the Eurogamer article on this, it links to one from November:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...ut-summer-2014

That earlier article sheds more light on the lack of Sky Go:

Quote:

...

Sky told us it still wants to extend the distribution of Sky Go, but main set platforms are less pressing because Sky Go customers, of which there are over three million, can already access Sky content on their main set via their Sky + HD box.

Sky's focus for Sky Go, then, is Android tablets and smartphones.

A Sky spokesperson said: "We enjoy a long track-record of innovating with Microsoft and look forward to the launch of Now TV on Xbox One by summer next year.

"As a dedicated over-the-top service, we have prioritised the availability of Now TV, to extend the reach of the service to the main TV. Looking ahead, we will also consider any future opportunities for Sky Go."
So, it's not MS wanting people to use the passthrough (my initial tinfoil hat assumption), but actually that Sky wants to concentrate on Now TV for "main set platforms" because people with Sky Go will already have a Sky box connected to their "main set", so won't need Sky Go for it. Now TV for main sets, Sky Go for mobile.

Then again... if that's the case, why announce Sky Go for PS4?

New update is out for those in preview. Mine has now updated to 1405

Quote:

As part of our ongoing effort to bring new features to our Xbox fans worldwide, we’ll begin rolling out more features to folks in our early access program beginning this week and we’re looking forward to their feedback before shipping the system update to all Xbox One owners in May. We hope you’ve been enjoying our most recent Xbox One system update that rolled out last week and we look forward to bringing you even more great features in the months ahead.

Feature highlights for this next phase of our early access program include a new sound mixer for snapped apps, chat volume controls when using Kinect and the option to help us improve speech recognition. You can also take this update on demand as soon as it becomes available if you’d like.

Sound Mixer for Apps with Snap and Volume Controls When Using Kinect with Chat
We’ve received great feedback from fans asking for more control over audio levels and background sound. As a result, under Settings we’ve added two new features for controlling your audio options. With the new Sound mixer, you’ll be able to control the volume levels of two apps when you’re using Snap letting you decide which app is louder. In this same section, you’ll also be able to control the volume levels when you’re using Kinect for chat.

Opt-In to Help Improve Speech Recognition
Being able to control your Xbox One with voice commands can be a magical moment and we want to continue making this great for all Xbox One owners worldwide. The more voice samples we have to input into our algorithms, the better and more responsive Xbox One can be to our fans. If you want to help us in our efforts to make voice and speech improvements for Kinect even better, you can opt-in to a speech data collection. Under Settings, then Privacy & Online Safety, go to Customizing privacy and online safety and set Share Voice Data to Allow. This is completely optional and all voice data shared via this setting will be used for product improvement only.

Take the Next System Update When You Want
You’ll now also be able to take this next system update as soon as it’s available if you want. When this update is made available, you’ll find the option under Settings, then select System update as shown below.

As always, we’re thrilled with our fans’ enthusiasm about our Xbox One system updates and we’re really excited about what’s coming in the next few months. We look forward to hearing your feedback about these latest features in our early access program and will roll them out to everyone worldwide in May.

Leaked E3 details below

http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/ru...ked.453967439/

Quote:

LEAKED - Microsoft E3 2014

On the DL. This info comes from the highest source and contains near full details of Microsoft E3 2014 conference. I have had corroborations from a number of sources to its legitimacy:

•Ryse 2 is in development and will be announced at the show in a real-time in-game trailer. Gone is the Roman period, enter the medieval setting. The game will offer more freedom of exploration and a refined combat system. The main character is a sell-sword of sorts with a greater destiny. This game looks beyond belief. No release date (possibly late 2016)
•Forza Horizon 2 will be announced for release in October 2014 vai Playground Games. It will once again be open world and set in Louisiana, Missisips, New Mexico, Texas and Arkansas. Full day/night cycle, real time weather. Estimated 80 hour single player.
•343 Industries will unveil Halo 2: Anniversary. This is a full (multiplayer included) visual makeover of Halo 2, it will also include the same options as Halo Anniversary (Including both visual modes) skulls etc. It will include the E3 2003 mission as a bonus unlockable and the maps from the PC version.
•No Turn 10 this year except in supportive capacity of Playground.
•Halo 5 will get its release date.
•Rare is prepping a re-boot of Battletoads and Perfect Dark. BT will initially be a download only title (see Killer Instinct) and is set to run at 60fps. Perfect Dark is looking to be rebooted into a Third Person Adventure game - Similar to Uncharted.
•Epic will be there to unveil their new game base on the Samaritan demo from 2012. This will be XBOX ONE EXCLUSIVE as Microsoft is the publisher. Possibly the best looking game of this generation.
•Good Science Studios will unveil their Kinect Only game "EchoBlack" - The game is controlled via the use of Kinect and the player plots through an adventure game drawn as by echolocation. The vibrancy of the world depicted alters depending on the pitch, loudness and location of the players voice. No release date.
•Twisted Pixel will reveal their next digital game which is set in a sci-fantasy planet of Dekelsus. Possibly a 2.5D platformer.
•Black Tusk will have a CGI trailer for Gears of War : Lazurus which will show the direction the series is heading.
•Lift London will be showing 2 projects. They are small and digital based. No other details unfortunately.
•Lionhead will have a brief gameplay of Fable Legends and bow out with a teaser of their next project which is set in a post-cataclysmic Earth decimated by egg shaped objects (possibly aliens)
•Frontier Development is working on a family friendly Kinect title for release in 2014
•Phantom Dust : Sacrifice is being worked on by Grounding Inc and will be a prequel to the original. The game will be episodic in nature.
•Quantum Break will be out November 2014 - There is a multiplayer mode - Part 1 of a trilogy. The game has had a significant graphical upgrade since last year.
•Sunset Overdrive is aiming for release on the last weeks of August/Early September. Graphically it looks like the CG trailer and the Parkour element of the game is a mix of Sonic, Jet Set Radio and Ratchet and Clank.
•The secret Japanese game is coming from Platinum Games and is a Viewtiful Joe like action- beat em up. Codename is "RugPuddle". This is part one of a multiple game deal with Microsoft to publish other titles in the future.
•Leap Experience Pioneers will announce their game which looks like a TPS/RPG hybrid set in a Sci-fi universe. Looks very Mass Effect inspired. COMING 2015
•Platform Next Games is a new studio. They will be presenting an unnamed tech demo based on an upcoming project (similar to Black Tusks demo last year) which appears to be set in either an ancient or fantasy setting.
•Games With Gold will be announced for Xbox One starting immediately. The aim is that it will be 1 retail game a month, 1 digital game per month of a choice of 2. This will evolve as time goes on.
•Microsoft will announce the date when retail units can be activated as development kits, it will be before October 2014.
•Crackdown: Skyline - Coming 2015 - No other info, not even the developer. Microsoft Studios.
•Multi-platforms are as follows:
The Division (Xbox One is now lead platform)
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Fallout 4
EA game (not specified here)

Exclusive/Timed DLC on all.

That's all.

Official post by Phil Spencer on the changes: http://news.xbox.com/2014/05/xbox-de...g-more-choices

All three are good decisions, although I guess this means Kinect is dead.

Kinect never had much support even when *everyone* had one, so why would devs bother with it at all now?

Will the UI get any kind of improvements now that MS cannot assume that everyone will just use voice commands? Bring back the Guide!

How will people without Kinect record game clips? They can't do 30 second clips (at the moment) as the only way you can do that is "Xbox, record that", and they can't edit or share anyway as Upload Studio (at the moment) requires Kinect. Will we get an alternative method?

It's about time that Netflix and other apps didn't need Gold. PS3, PS4, Wii, Wii U, Apple TV, Roku, Smart TVs, etc. etc. etc. all do not need any kind of extra sub to use Netflix or any other app, so it was always rather greedy and cheeky that Xbox did.

Games with Gold - Spartan Assault's nothing special, but Max is meant to be great.

Halo 5: Guardians coming to Xbox One in autumn 2015.

Also, in that article, 343i's Bonnie Ross mentioned at the end that our Halo journey begins *this year* with a "giant leap"... which perhaps lends support to this rumour:

" 'Halo: The Master Chief Collection' coming to Xbox One this year, collects 'Halos 1-4 "

Most people had been expecting Halo 2 Anniversary, given that the original was released in 2004, but to get *all four* remastered for Xbox One would be awesome! :) [if true]

The lack of 3D BD support on the Xbox One (& PS4) is the only reason I've not already ditched my ageing (and noisy) PS3 and got a PS4. It's the only thing it gets used for now, as my SmartTV handles my DLNA stuff and my Xbox One is now my main Netflix and 2D BD player.

I don't even use my console for Netflix unless I'm going to be using Unblock-US. Even then I could just use my TV. All-in-One media centre is useless when your TV does most of it.

The first Halo was good enough that it, together with Project Gotham Racing persuaded me to buy an Xbox. I got invited to one of the launch demos (a beneficial side effect of working for an Uni with a Games Development degree). I played Halo in single player mode and found it had something most FPS games lacked. An enjoyable and coherent storyline. I say that most FPS games lacked it at the time, but, TBH, they lack it now.

Then I played PGR, found it was a good (rather than great) racer with an excellent soundtrack and very realistic circuits (it actually felt like I was driving around London at over 100MPH), and I was hooked. As soon as I could afford it, I bought an Xbox with those two games, and never looked back.

I'd use my TV for Netflix too, but it still has the old Netflix app without profile support... As the Netflix account is in my wife's name, using it via the older app would mean putting up with her recommendations and lists.
