I was hoping that Mick McCarthy would get the job and relegate Chelski, until a friend on Facebook reminded he was now at Ipswich. In which case, let's get Rafa in there and see Chelski next season at Elland Road.

I think they sacked RDM too early. He did brilliant for them while he was temp manager and start of season has been good for them excvept last few weeks. When will Roman reallise he needs to just keep 1 manager and give him time and stop sacking them beacuse of a few bad results.

If this happened to SAF years ago i wonder where MUFC would be now. Also AW has been given time at Arsenal and its got them some cups. Ok so Arsenal havnt won anything for about 6 years but yet the board still give AW the backing to do the job

i have no issues with him sacking the manager.

He puts the money into the club, he gets to choose who he wants. If people are not happy, let them put their money into the club. Problem with that, fans are quick to complain about things, but slow to use their own money.

What would the english premiership be like without all the money that went into it? I suspect not as good. Who would want to play here, apart from the money? Most other countries have better weather, more appealing.

MalteseFalcon 21-11-2012 15:57

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

I agree, but on the flipside, just think how many World Cups or European Championships we could have won since 1966 if we didn't have too many foreign players in the Premiership?

This is why I have said in the past that maybe Hodgson needs to look to the Championship downwards to find English players to bring on. God knows in the Premier League they get little playing time unless they are excellent or playing for a club who can't attract foreign players, or decent foreign players at that.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Not convinced that keeping foreigners out, would make England a better team, and you would win the world cup, european championship.

Firstly, that would presume all other countries would not be as good, or better in that scenario. And it isn't just being english, it is structure of the leagues, style of play etc. That has nothing to do with nationality of players.

I feel you are delusional if you think England would have won more world cups, if they only had english players.

I didn't say ban ALL foreign players, I do think a quota would be the best way to go. Ditto a wage cap, so no-one can earn more than £100k a week after tax is paid.

Things will only improve if Mancini is given the boot and thus then the new manager is given considerable funds to purchase the 4 world class players they still need to become a force in Europe.

I think mancini is purely fascinated with systems, not teams.

Normally I expect a manager to make the team greater than the sum of its parts. Man City aren't a team, just talented individuals. I don't see them playing as a team.

Depends what he wants. Arsenal would offer complete control of the team and transfers, and stability. He would know that Arsenal would allow him time and a bad season or two. He would not get complete control or time at City or Chelsea.

However they would offer more transfer money, a better chance of a league and champions league title.

they probably did want Falcao. they probably put in a bid too but Falcao is a different type of striker to Huntelaar. Huntelaar and Torres would clash. Falcao and Torres wouldnt. depending on formation/system of course. Sturridge is an asset until a world beater comes in.

Arsenal will announce a 'significant' commercial deal tomorrow. Probably switching kit maker/sponsor. The start of the period when our old, rubbish, deals expire and the new ones up to modern standards start to arrive. One of Arsenal's biggest problems has been the fact they the deals that were done to help finance the stadium have been dwarfed by the value of equivalent contracts now. Even Liverpool's kit deal was a multiple of our own.

This is why I have said in the past that maybe Hodgson needs to look to the Championship downwards to find English players to bring on. God knows in the Premier League they get little playing time unless they are excellent or playing for a club who can't attract foreign players, or decent foreign players at that.

I'll go with zero, the same as we won from '67 up until the start if the premiership and a salary cap is a silly idea unless the whole world and not even just Europe joins in and what do you think would happen to the cash if players and agents didn't get,it, think it would trickle down to grass roots or they'd put prices down, think again imo we's end up with more kronkie's and Glaziers milking clubs.

If l was Clattenburg, l would take legal proceedings against Chelsea, it proves that they are a bunch of liars, and think that they are gods.

Action will taken against the player who made the accusations and l am sure Chelsea will agree in private a compensation deal with Mark Clattenburg for the trouble and slight to his reputation this has caused.

The action against Mikel isn't because he made the allegations (it was actually Ramires) but because he swore and confronted the Clattenburg after the game. No action will, or should, be taken against Chelsea because it hasn't been proven that they made the allegation in bad faith. They had a duty to report a incident in which one of their players felt they had been racially abused.

It seems that Clattenburg likely said 'shut up Mikel' and Ramires, whose English is poor, went to Mikel to confirm what was said and Mikel had been heard as monkey.

Arsenal have extended the deal with the Emirates for stadium/shirt sponsorship for 5 years. £150 million.

http://www.arsenal.com/newemiratesdeal

Puts us second behind United in terms of sponsorship but it includes stadium as well.

30m a season :erm: Utd will get 45m a season from 2014. I'm not too happy with the length and extension for stadium naming rights but hey ho on we go.

Just be thankful for small mercies as at least you have got a nice new stadium as we are still waiting for ours.

United are significantly bigger than us worldwide. We're second at the moment and have gotten more than Barcelona and Real Madrid for their shirt sponsorships and a nice sum on top of that for the stadium. The stadium obviously means we haven't trounced Barcelona or Madrid, we've probably matched them or just come under them in the case of Barca, but it's hard to quantify how much the stadium rights were worth.

So not too bad. Don't mind the stadium keeping the name, it's what I know it as anyway.

I understand the money. The shirt deal looks good even though it could well become low in value when the deal comes to an end, basically in the final 1-2 years. Its the stadium rights. I know the current deal had years running so negotiating was a must still I think its been undervalued. I need a break down of it all. Our rep is huge even throughout our decline we're still well respected.
