Walker Prequel In Development at CW
Quote:

A prequel for The CW’s hit series Walker, starring and executive produced by Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), is in the works, according to Deadline. The period drama spin-off, Walker: Independence, comes from Walker creator, showrunner, and EP Anna Fricke and series writer and executive producer Seamus Fahey, with Padalecki set to executive produce. The series also hails from executive producers Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore.

So probably more PC/Woke nonsense then.

I'll probably give it a go, when it arrives (it'll be a long while yet).
If it follows the route of Supergirl, 4400 & Batwoman, and just becomes more LBM+LGBXZWTF+ bullshite, I'll soon drop it.

that's fantastic. It was great in its day like BSG but is one of those series which could be brilliant if remade with todays technology. I just hope they treat it with the respect it deserves and it doesn't turn out like The 4400.

VFX technology shouldn’t make any meaningful difference to Quantum Leap. It was never effects heavy (the only one being the leap in/out at either end of each show). What would ruin it would be to turn it into a heavily CGI’d production just because they can.

The sci fi concept was just the means of getting the story to where it needed to be, which was to ask questions about how our lives are a combination of our choices, other people’s choices and accidents and whether there’s an over-arching force or intelligence also at play. It was pop philosophy with a bit of throwaway theology also in the mix in later episodes.

It drops in March so I’d imagine it wrapped months ago, even allowing for pickups. They may well have pencilled in an extended role for the character in the MCU but I’d say it’s unlikely they’ve done anything they can’t change.

If they’re not re-casting for Chadwick Boseman, despite the obvious difficulties for the continuing story arc, they’re very unlikely to re-cast for Ulliel. Remember, this is Marvel, not DC. ;)

Grant Gustin is apparently in negotiations for Season 9 of The Flash.
Its reported he is near to agreeing a 15 episode season (with a pay rise of course).

So far CW have not made any announcements on renewals for their 2022/23 schedule, which is unusual in recent times - they have tended to do them quite early.

Most of the current seasons are ending after 13 episodes rather than the usual 20/22 so they can get back to normal in Sep/Oct.

Even Riverdale, which is not that popular, and in its 5th Season, gets more. All series generally lose viewers over time (and Seasons) but to fail so badly in a first season is quite something.

The PC machine is at work though because it was renewed for a second season.

I think this is sad for two reasons. Firstly, we know that they aren't even going to ask themselves or realise what is wrong with the show and fix it. They'll probably double down on it to prove a point and make it worse (e.g. Discovery). Secondly, so many good series get cancelled over the silliest minute decline in viewership, even if it is still in the millions, yet they are determined to go ahead with this because it is good for PR.

There was The 4400 and another series which were renewed at the same time, I mentioned both and remarked how The 4400 was getting an early renewal just after 2 or 3 eps had aired but it wasn't a surprise considering they are pushing the PC agenda. J. Michael Straczynski will write and executive produce a ”from-the-ground-up“ new version of ’90s-era science fiction series

Quote:

Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski isn’t giving up hope on a Babylon 5 reboot at The CW, even though the project has been pushed back to the next development season.
The new version has been described as a “from-the-ground-up reboot” of the critically acclaimed 1990s series by Warner Bros. Television. The new version would follow John Sheridan, an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background,, who is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space.
Stracynski updated the series status on his Patreon on the situation, talking about the series concept not being picked up. “99.999% of the time, that’s the end of the road for the project.”
However, CW CEO Mark Pedowitz is not ready to throw dirt on it. .
“I should mention that Mark is a great guy and a long-time fan of B5. He worked for Warners when the show was first airing,” Straczynski wrote. “Calling the [reboot] pilot ‘a damned fine script,’ he said he was taking the highly unusual step of rolling the project and the pilot script into next year, keeping B5 in active development while the dust settles on the [prospective] sale of the CW.”

“Here’s the bottom line: Yesterday, Babylon 5 was in active development at the CW and Warner Bros. for fall 2022. Today, Babylon 5 is in active development at the CW and Warner Bros. for fall 2023,” he wrote. “That is the only difference.”
Can't say I am upset about it. I am very 50/50 about this atm.

The Rookie spin off in the works.

Quote:

Kat Foster and Felix Solis will star opposite Niecy Nash in ABC’s proposed spinoff from The Rookie. The duo will guest star in a two-episode arc in the current fourth season of The Rookie, which will serve as a backdoor pilot for the potential spinoff of the series starring Nathan Fillion.

The yet-untitled project will expand beyond the current Los Angeles Police Department and revolve around the FBI. The potential new series comes from The Rookie creator/executive producer Alexi Hawley, executive producers Terence Paul Winter and Mark Gordon and studios eOne and ABC Signature.

The planted spinoff, co-created and written by Hawley and Winter, follows the premise of The Rookie, which stars Fillion as John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the LAPD.

I think he is going to be fantastic. I think this series is going to put Discovery to shame and prove how they have got it so wrong over the last 4/5 years.

"Something you don’t like" ≠ "got it so wrong"… ;)

As has been demonstrated (repeatedly) on this forum, your opinion often differs from others - which is fine, because enjoyment/dislike is subjective.

However, Rotten Tomatoes gave Season 3 a 91% approval rating, and Season 4 92%, and since Season 5 is on its way, it appears a reasonable amount of viewers disagree with you…

I actually agree with him as it appears do many others.

Putting the Cruitics score to one sdie Audience scores are the following.

S1 36%, S2 36%, S3 40% and S4 19%.

That tells me a reasonable amount of viewers disagree with both you and the critics.

Hmm, an internet vote

Back in pre-internet days, fandom indulged in letter-writing campaigns. These days they all just pile on forums and review websites. As always, such things are skewed towards the highly motivated.

So while there’s evidence to suggest a section of fandom has an extremely flaccid realism factor over ST: D it’s hardly conclusive proof of its wider audience appreciation.

Last season was okay but this was a joke. It was a pathetic excuse for everyone to stop what they were doing every 2 minutes and talk about their feelings, how we all have mental health issues and all love and care for each other. Let's not forget the mandatory gay drama every episode where even during red alert (when I should be at my post) and the ship is seconds away from being destroyed I have got time to run down to engineering and whinge about something. Or the new thing........we follow the away team round the ship and give them a kiss goodbye as they beam out. This wasn't Star Trek, this was shoddily written PC bullshit dragging the Star Trek name through the mud. The series needs to be removed from the timeline.

People is plural. I would love to know they are. The last season can be summed up by everyone constantly smiling at other and after any minor scene/event to further the real story, everyone took it in turns to pair up and have a 5 minute heart to heart and discuss their feelings. I think we literally had every combination you can think of.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other TV Snippets

While I dont exactly think it was as bad as GM makes out, I have to say its become quite irritating some of the time, too much PC BS and touchy feely stuff, and not enough actual storyline/action.

Hugh 21-03-2022 09:09

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other TV Snippets

Totally understand that - people like different things.

At around $8 million per episode, pretty sure they’re not making another season because no one likes it.

But GM’s approach is that if he doesn’t like it, no one else should be allowed to like it…

It is an insult to Star Trek and its legacy. It either needs to be un-made or change its name.

Hugh 21-03-2022 09:19

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other TV Snippets

Well, because of it’s popularity, Picard, Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, & Prodigy got made - so enough people liked it to encourage Paramount to make more series…

You know, you could always just not watch it…

I said that at the end of season 2 but you guys banged on about how amazing season 3 was so I reluctantly gave it ago when it had finished airing and I had nothing else to watch. It was surprisingly okay and semi redeemed itself which made me open to watching season 4 but it has taken a nose dive again. It is just like Supergirl where they are pushing their own agenda, have a complete disregard for what the series is supposed to be about and turn it into something completely different and slap Star Trek on the label.

Star Trek has always pushed an agenda, it just used other species to tell the story it needed.

No one takes notice of what you say about movies and tv so why do you take notice of others? Surely you know yourself you are hard to please

Defo one to keep an eye out for:

Quote:

SYFY’s The Ark has begun production at PFI Studios in Belgrade, Serbia with its just-announced series regulars – Christie Burke, Richard Fleeshman, Reece Ritchie, Stacey Read and Ryan Adams.

Created by Dean Devlin (Independence Day, Stargate), The Ark takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. With more than a year left to go before reaching their target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies and loss of leadership, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive.

Dean Devlin and Jonathan Glassner (Stargate SG-1) are Co-Showrunners and executive produce alongside Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson of Electric Entertainment. Jonathan English of Balkanic Media and Steve Lee serve as producers.
