Let the people decide!

Many people may not agree with whoever is chosen as leader.

Many people may have changed their mind and feel they need a different party all together in power.

there wont be a general election same as when Thatcher changed to Major and when Blair changed to Brown with no general election

Re: Partygate & Beergate discussion

If he stands down as Leader but remains PM while the couple of months of Leadership campaigning elapse, who will agree to serve under these arrangements?

If he has no credible government in the interim, then will he resign as PM? Possible, more so than less imo now that he has taken this step.

If he stands down as PM, Raab will be at the helm while the processes take their course.

Well said papa. :D

This kind of backstabbing cost us the greatest prime minister of the 20th century. It is for the electorate to decide who leads this country, not a coup of remainer Nancy boys.

While true - both lost when they got round to it. Depending on who it is, whether there’s a bounce and what happens re: Starmer’s fine, it might be worth a roll of the dice.

Is he a threat to national security while he hangs around?

Re: Partygate & Beergate discussion

And he’s off … sort of. To be fair it isn’t outrageous for a PM to remain in post until after a party leadership election. John Major was PM but not party leader during his resignation stunt in 1995.

Not sure you’ve fully thought this through…

There are around 260 backbenchers, who are part of the 1922 Committee - sack all of them, and you are only left with the "payroll’ vote of around 95 Government Ministers (well, around 45 now…).

This is in my opinion a total lack of supporting the public.

The decisions they make affect millions of people yet we have no say in the matter.
Definately dont agree with this way they do things.

He looked well out of his depth during those few days he did the job while Boza had Covid, so how he'd be if he had to do a few months I dread to think. They should give Teresa a call and see if she fancies steadying the ship and sticking one up at Boza at the same time.

On a side note, are we likely to see a by-election in Uxbridge and South Ruislip? He didn't have a massive majority.

I wonder if they've started using Bexit as a hashtag yet.
