Pretty daft idea then if it records junk you don't want.

It records based on your viewing habits via thumbsup/ down and learns from what you record sorecords similar in case you missed it.

Very handy in my view as I sometimes find a program partway through a series.....

That's why you rate stuff you like and don't like. It learns what you watch, and only records things you will want to watch

So TIVO is just for suggestions , not wishlists , remote record etc.

Thumbs down stuff you don't like, and it won't be recorded again.

Plus, suggestions are automatically deleted or not recorded when you start running out of space or tuners so you never lose a recording you have planned because of a suggestion.

(this was all S1 stuff - assume its still valid)

exactly this, muppetman you're not grasping the concept of TiVo, it works on the assumption a full box is better than an empty box (and why wouldn't you?!)

As BenMcr states, the more you rate with thumbs, the better the suggestions get, and you'll end up with a changed life (seriously) as it'll have programs stored on it which it knows you'll like that you may not have previously known about

ah, no... it's just one of the many delights of TiVo :romance:

It only starts to record suggestions once you have recorded and thumbs up/down some programmes. It gets smarter all the time.

I understand it fully I've used the TIvo premiere when in the US just don't rate the Suggestions has highly as some people I mean really rating casualty with 3 thumbs up is likely to recommend Holby City not really groundbreaking is it.

I've had Tivo a week and the suggestions are already recording things I like. Especially movies. It has recorded some real corkers from the Sky Movie channels.

One question on that which DF might be able to help me with - when it records of Sky Movies it is recording the SD version of the channel and not the HD one. Is there a reason for this?

It is when no other PVR I know of in the UK does this already.

When I get mine and have had it working for weeks I'll eat humble pie if it proves me wrong.

a very simplistic view :)

When in fact it goes a lot deeper than that... actors, directors, producers etc...

One of the suggestions fed back already - "get HD if available". :)

are you trolling? Serious question.

This functionality (I think) is patented. you won't see it on any other PVR at least for the meantime.

It's almost like another VoD channel... for example I love Family Guy/American Dad, but I don't want to watch every episode that's on, so TiVo Suggestions will record the odd episode - sweet... theres always something I want to watch, when I feel like :)
