The £55 million has to cover wages as well as the fee and is only that high because of the sales of Nasri and Fabregas. You take out players going out and Arsenal break even. I agree it would great if the owner paid off the stadium and freed up that money. That would be great. It would instantly negate the need for CL football to break even, it would help first team investment. The finances effectively mean that in the short term Wenger is still dependent on shipping players out in order to buy - unless we take on more debt or the owner finances it. Long term our commercial deals are under performing because long-term deals were signed almost a decade ago so when they expire that will go drastically up, additionally once the stadium is paid off then all the money also goes into the club. So it's looking rosy long term but in the short term Wenger doesn't have money to invest in the team beyond that raised by outgoing tranfers. |

I do not think that Arsenal will take on more debt, but they might get better sponsorship deals! |
Re: Football Season 2011/12
sponsorship deals are a year or two away. the club could cut the line by ending early.. that will depend on companies talking.
Damien i cant quote but ok the man does deserve credit for what hes donne but we cannot be dinasours living in the past. the fact hes screwed the payroll when repeatedly asked/told to buy as well as clear evidence the current players sucked.. their average is to me chioces that get you sacked. stubborn in his own ways hes ruined more than hes cured with this project of his. |

denphone could you refrain from posting multiple news stories a day without comment? I appreciate the effort but if people want to read the sports news they can go to the sites in question themselves. This thread is better served by discussion of those stories or to surface more obsure stories that people might otherwise miss. Cheers.

It should be a very interesting board meeting this thursday and there is no doubt in my mind that some things have to change even though l believe Wenger should be kept on as manager. |

The question has to be asked on why did it take so long to come to his senses and make this apology. |
Re: Football Season 2011/12
Brilliant news for Arsenal fans
Arsenal are ready to open fresh contract talks with winger Theo Walcott, midfielder Tomas Rosicky and striker Robin van Persie after the trio indicated they are keen to stay at the club. http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/footbal...#ixzz1n3oKHSA6 Not so brilliant news for them Arsene Wenger faces being left with just £10m to rebuild Arsenal http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standa...ild-arsenal.do |
Re: Football Season 2011/12
there was a fake article published by goal.com saying our ceo told van persie he'd have to stay. no quotes from Ivan but the famous close source quotes.
van persie will know hes now coming to an end to his career and will try squeeze every penny possible. Arsensl wont offer huge wages unless the wage bill is drastically changed... loads of players walk which needs to happen. if Arsenal cant get things right and continue to refuse to pay huge salaries regardless if money is available then van persie will leave its simple. I hope in light of everythign gone on the sumer will see drastic changes.. flops gone etc. Rosicky needs to be sold.. im against him getting a renewal. theo.. hes demanding highrr wages but on what merit casn those demands be met. people are saying sell but i dont agree. i think hes been mismanaged like the rest of the squad. both sides must take responsibilty. I think Wenger will change, this coming summer will/should transform our gaffer. Wenger probably wont go on holiday.. neithr will Ivan and whoever else needed to get thingsx done. |

I trust The Telegraph more than Goal.com. ---------- Post added at 09:35 ---------- Previous post was at 08:37 ---------- Very interesting article here on if it's actually wise to offer RVP a new deal: http://goonerboy.blogspot.com/2012/0...e-get-new.html I don't agree with it completely, I think it would be too damaging. However the parallels to 2007 are interesting. Henry leaving saw the emergence of Fabregas from promising talent to one of the best players in Europe. We have a few very promising young players ready to make the step up, Wilshere, Chamberlain, Ramsey, Gibbs... |
