I'm trying to compare tivo and v+ side by side. As I dont have two identical tvs or two cable feeds in the same room I cant:( How have you managed to get around this problem?

I don't need to. The difference is so great it was blindingly obvious as soon as I switched the TiVo on!

With my Samsung V+ I was constantly impressed with the quality of SD channels, with TiVo I am thinking 'how bad is this?' - it is like watching a poor quality, downloaded movie. Low quality video has distinguishable features, just like low quality mp3 files do. I am quite aware of what I am seeing.

Not seen an answer to this. Can anybody with a Tivo confirm that if you only part watch a recording, you can start where you left off or at least input a manual start time during the recording? My wife and I often do this and wouldn't want to have to fast forward from the start of a recording to guess where you last watched to.

Are you talking about compression artefacts like blocking or are you talking about a softening of the picture?

That seems a step back from V+ , also you can't set reminders I believe.

I suppose it depends on how TiVo thought people would use the UI.

As for the reminder thing, no you can't set them. As to why, I'm sure that's already been discussed at length on here (and I know it certainly has on other forums). It's never been part of the TiVo experience, which is why it's not in the Virgin TiVo box.

I can live without them for now but would recommend they are on the wish list for "enhancements".

The SD PQ is more of a concern as some people (not all) have stated they have a poorer PQ when the Tivo is installed which is not good. I'm hoping I see no difference with my setup.

That would imply to me that the TIVO upscaling is inferior to the V+ upscaling at the moment.

A little trick to get a reminder on your TiVo... Set the programme to record, and any other recording to start a little earlier (two others once you get the 3-tuner software). It will display a message a minute before it needs to use the live TV tuner to do the recording.

And even if you miss the reminder you'll still end up with the programme recorded. :)
