it seem quite obvious 'clear' will delete things and the guide book also explains it. V+ had similar shortcuts that were not prompted on screen. I think you will really start to see the benefits the more you play with the Tivo but if not and you are happier with the VCR like approach of V+ then you should certainly cancel your contract. |

When I moved from Tivo S1 to V+ (for HD) I really could not believe the huge retrograde step in terms of user interface and functionality. V+ records what you ask (if you are lucky!) nothing more - just like a VCR. it doesnt evn realise when a new series of something you have previously recorded has started. Tivo is proactive - you tell it what you definately want to record and what programmes you like and it gets to work pulling in content for you proactively. In these respects, at least, V+ is much closer to a VCR than to Tivo. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
I suppose it's what you want really if I want to record Waterloo Road , I series link it and it records every week unlike one of the posters here who had recordings of it from every BBC channel , each to their own.

[QUOTE=ahardie;35226108]There isn't a product on the market that suits everybody Richard. I would send it back and get your money back. That's what i will do if I don't like it.[COLOR=Silver]
QUOTE] I am very technical minded and wanted the next generation tv but even technical minded people need some instruction... on the screen the clear button should be shown what it does like for example one of the screens the last channel button shows up as being the search shortcut button. I just feel that for a premium product that they are charging £150 for and £3 a month that there should be hardly any issues and as soon as they are reported a software fix should be put in place asap. |

I am sure I will get to grips with it more once I get in touch but having come from sky where the on screen menus are really easy to use and you dont have to go across and select individual letters when you search for something the user interface seems a step down so far. The only reason I wanted to watch three in a bed was because I had recorded it on sky and that was all disconnected this morning so I was hoping for this to be on the on demand. Love the bbc iplayer and once this is integrated into the guide will be fab... Think the same should go for itv player and also 4od needs to have an app like iplayer. |

I prefer how the tv catchup menus work on the V+ though and the fact you can search for things specifically in tv catchup. Yes I know you can search for it in the general tv listings and go through to it that way but it doesnt seem to work and I have to trawl through episodes to get to the one I want and then it only gives me the option to go to on demand anyway screen anyway to search for it manually... again another thing that hasnt impressed me or flat mates. IN the advertising video that I showed them everyone was like wow but its so long winded. WHen I was showing it to my flat mates tonight all these little things that should be working that are not have not impressed them and they think I am daft to have spent this ammount of money on something that has a longer way round of doing things than the V+. |

And unlike V+ it will now (shudder the thought) record every series of WR without me having to a) realise a new series is starting b) set up a new series pass It will also proactively record and suggest lots of other content like Waterloo Road which I may not otherwise have discovered! Yikes off to cancel a season pass! ;) ---------- Post added at 22:46 ---------- Previous post was at 22:27 ---------- Quote:
You also have to wait for the programmes which will appear in catchup to be added (as you do with V+). i think its usually 24 hours. So in a couple of days you will certainly be able to play anything marked with a c in todays EPG straight from the EPG. Hope that helps. |
Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
I have set number of series links and had the programmes finish early.
I know I have to train myself to always add padding, but why? In the olden days, before TV recorders, the channels were meticulous with their timing. Now, in the age of PVRs, they are sloppy. Only in exceptional circumstances did programmes overrun, now it is the norm. |
