Garde La Victoire (11-4) came into the extended two-mile event, traditionally a major Champion Hurdle trial and won in the past by the likes of Sea Pigeon, Lanzarote and See You Then, on a mark of 154, b ut that did not stop the top weight from following up his Greatwood Hurdle success, getting the better of an epic duel with Jollyallan (7-4) from the penultimate flight
