Re: [Merged] Football talk

whilst i don't condone what Gary Neville did he didn't kick the ball into the crowd with any force.. not much of an excuse I know but I wonder if a Norwich player had done this there would have been the same outcry!!

I remember after the FA Cup game on Sunday everyone on all the United boards I go to was saying how you can critise the team after that performance.. i say the performance on Sunday is why the team should be critisised and also fined 2 weeks wages as well.. we showed no hunger or desire last night and several players were just going through the motions.. to win trophies you have to play well over a number of games not once every few weeks.. last nights performance wasn't good enough..

Also was reading on the UEFA web site that the reason Inter didn't get banned is that the laws in Italy state UEFA needs to look after security in the stadium and the UEFA laws say it is the hosting club..

Reading up on Fergies press conference last night, he said...

"I don't know the exact rule on that [Neville's dismissal] but you can't kick a ball at a spectator, not nowadays, and Gary should know that.
Does that mean it used to be OK to smack a fan in the face with the ball? :)

No, but since the Cantona, Diouf and countless other examples, players have to be careful about doing anything which is seen to be retaliating with fans. I daresay that years ago if fans goaded a player and the player reacted the fans would have just laughed and treated it as a victory that they affected the player. Nowadays they tend to report it to the police and try and sue the player...

It was good news for arsenal. I never thought we would come out of wednesday by making our lead over united to 4 points. Theres still the automatic champions league spot!

Well I would have been equally ****ed off. More so if the guilty party was one of ours, as well.

Disgraceful.

Good to hear from such an authority on the matter.

SAF must have a HUGE clear-out this summer. The team is nothing like the force we were in the 90s. He needs to start by admitting he has been wrong in the last few years with his tactics.

Sir Bobby Charlton says that Fergie is unsackable.....

Quote:

Sir Bobby Charlton has claimed fellow knight Alex Ferguson will never be sacked as Manchester United manager.

"The only way we would ever be separated from Alex Ferguson is if he decides," the United director told Sky Sports News. "He is the best manager that has ever been, certainly in England, and we have no reason to change."

Next season will be his last. I guarantee it. Perhaps he'll move up but I don't believe he belongs in today's style of play. We were definately the team of the 90s but the game has moved on his stubborness (once such a powerful trait for him) is now working against him. He won't admit that we're not the force we used to be.

I've known about this since Wednesday but it's still an utter disgrace, they've proved they're not fit to wear the shirt.

Not making excuses but allegedly this has been going on all season, so some possible rationalisation for the season we're having. Which has also involved for the last 4 months the team being leaked onto the 'net on fridays.

Megson should sack the lot of them, for bringing the club into disrepute and breach of contract. In any other job the same is likely to happen.

You're right, & I've edited it.

nffc-please don't just copy/paste other people's (copyrighted) work.

All you need to do is sum up & provide a link to the article, thanks.

Just heard today what Neville did. Utterly disgraceful. At first I thought he just kicked the ball out for a throw-in (when in foubt, clout it out sort of thing), but deliberately kicked the ball at the fans. Absolutely terrible.

Does anyone have a video clip of what happened? I'd like to see what happened myself.

Don't have a video.

Neville was standing with the ball at the touchline while a substitution was taking place. A couple of people in the Everton Family enclosure (the same family enclosure where fans reported United players to the police last year for swearing) were shouting abuse at him and making the ****er sign. He dropped the ball and hit it with his left foot into the stand (weakly - it was his left foot remember).

I'm not making excuses for Neville but some of the abuse players get from fans is unreal. I don't know if I could keep my cool, but then again I'm not a professional footballer paid millions of pounds. He should have known better.
