However, don’t forget one of them has previous in leaving treaties he doesn’t like...

A treaty with many more specifics in than this one as well.

I love the Daily Mail's headline that this is the summit of the century..it's only 18 years old.Plenty of time for other summits. :D

What’s the difference between this and the 2005 agreement? (besides the photo-opportunity)

https://www.armscontrol.org/factsheets/dprkchron

Quote:

September 19, 2005: The participants in the six-party talks conclude a joint statement of principles to guide future negotiations.

According to the statement, North Korea commits “to abandoning all nuclear weapons and existing nuclear programs and returning, at an early date, to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and to IAEA safeguards.” It also calls for the 1992 Joint Declaration of the Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, which forbids the two Koreas from possessing uranium-enrichment and plutonium-separation facilities, to be “observed and implemented.” Washington affirms in the statement that it has no intention to attack or invade North Korea.

The statement commits the participants to achieving “the verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in a peaceful manner” and says that the parties agree “to take coordinated steps to implement” the agreed-upon obligations and rewards “in a phased manner in line with the principle of ‘commitment for commitment, action for action.’”

Trump should wait before offering concessions until he gets something in return.

Why's he not on this forum then? He'd certainly get the latter from a few quarters. :D

North Korean State media are saying that Trump has agreed to lift sanctions.

https://news.sky.com/story/confusion...tions-11403122

Quote:

North Korea's state media has reported that Donald Trump has "expressed his intention" to lift crippling sanctions against the country - despite the US president saying that they will remain until "nukes are no longer a factor".

Donald Trump met Kim Jong Un for a historic summit at a luxurious Singapore hotel on Tuesday, with both leaders signing a deal regarding the "complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula".

But it had always been Mr Kim's goal to rid his country of US sanctions and, according to the state-run KCNA news agency, that is exactly what he achieved.

Following the "meeting of the century", KCNA said Mr Trump had agreed to lift sanctions as relations improve, as well as halt US-South Korea military exercises and offer security guarantees.

I think it may be a little early to be claiming there is no longer a nuclear threat, considering NK still have their nuclear weapons and ICBMs.

Also while I support the idea of peace talks North Korea are a horrible regime that kills thousands of their own citizens so being quite so complementary of them before they’ve conceded anything is a bit OTT

If Trump did agree to that (though I doubt it given that Trump is likely to have said he has only to renege on it) then there is hope for May yet that she could get a deal out of Trump - though whether she has the diplomatic prowess as Kim Jong Un, who knows. (No I don't think anything of him, just that little of her).

I regard Mrs May in much higher regard than a murderous dictator ...

I'm no fan of Therese May but I hold her in higher regard than those two men put together.

In regards to May vs Kim...I don't see May as doing anything near as vile / evil as Kim.

When it comes to negotiating though, Kim has gotten Trump to meet him, talk about his requests and gain sanctions relief.

May can't even get a face to face with him, at a conference.

He sees May as a little child.
