Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Yeah, sure would be nice to have a free week or so of BoxNation.
Probably a stupid question, but do BoxNation also play classic fights from years ago? I'd love to see some of those classic LaMotta vs. Robinson or Ali vs. Frazier encounters again. |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
box nation have been showing old fights,,,but only from around 2000 up to today,,,,its on free to air everyday for about 6hrs.plus the free live fights.its been on FTA for about 4mnths free.

If you have ESPN the first Ali Vs. Frazier and Ali Vs. Frazier III are currently available on demand in the ESPN folder. Oh I've just remembered reading Boxnation might also have a deal to share some of the KOTV archive which means some classic action might turn up on the channel. ---------- Post added at 19:43 ---------- Previous post was at 19:37 ---------- That's me registered via the link provided by Ben. Noticed this info at the bottom: "*By completing this form you are giving your consent to be contacted by Virgin Media Entertainment, so that Box Nation can be added to your current Virgin TV package. Box Nation upgrades must be kept for at least 30 days. Premium TV Services are provided to you by Virgin Media Entertainment, the trading name of Future Entertainment SARL which is a subsidiary of Virgin Media. Future Entertainment SARL is registered in Luxembourg (registered number B145414). Its registered office is at: Mediacenter, Betzdorf, 11 rue Pierre Werner, L-6832, Luxembourg" So just like other Premium channels it looks like you're not making any long term commitments by adding the channel. ---------- Post added at 19:46 ---------- Previous post was at 19:43 ---------- P.S. for anyone who's interested here's the latest e-mail I've received from Boxnation: "Hello boxing fans, Thanks for your interest in BoxNation, the UK’s first dedicated boxing channel. We’ve been incredibly busy getting ready for our launch and we’d like to take this opportunity to give you a bit more information on the channel and how to subscribe. BoxNation becomes a subscription-only service on the 1st of December. This date is the same for both Sky and Virgin Media customers, and subscription will cost just £10 a month. From early next week, you can subscribe through our website - http://www.boxnation.tv/ - more on this to follow. You can watch free on Sky platform channel 456 up until the 1st of December. For the time being, we’re unable to show any more fights online until after the SKY/Virgin launch but we’d like you to know that there’ll be some exciting news for online viewers coming soon. Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Its just been stated that Box Nation will be on VM on December 1st at £10.00 per month.
I think that to too high, £5.00 yes, They have said that they will provide good fights, but this could be a sales gimmick to get subs in. |

I don't mind £10.00 per month personally as long as I'm getting plenty of live action each month. I usually buy every PPV show. In the past year I've bought, or shared the cost with my brother for the following: 28th November 2010 -Carl Froch Vs. Arthur Abraham - £15 (Primetime) 15th April 2011 - Amir Khan Vs. Paul McCloskey - £15 (Primetime) 20th May 2011 - James DeGale Vs. George Groves - £15 (SKY Box Office) 04th July 2011 - David Haye Vs. Wladimir Klitschko - £15 (SKY Box Office) 22nd July 2011 - Amir Khan Vs. Zab Judah - £15 (Primetime) 19th September 2011 - Floyd Mayweather Vs. Victor Ortiz- £15 (Primetime) 12th November 2011 - Manny Pacquiao Vs. J.M. Marquez - £15 (Primetime) 7 shows cost me £105.00 in total. Each show runs about 3 hours so my £105.00 got me roughly 21 hours of viewing. When you take this into consideration, you must see how boxing fans see a dedicated channel for only £10.00 per month as great value. |

Now regarding zekeisaszekedoes question I don't think it's stupid at all. If the standard of today's boxing/fights was anywhere near as on par with the one's you've mentioned and not to forget all the other greats ie.-Louis-Marciano-Foreman-Holmes-Tyson-Hagler-Hearns-Leonard etc to name but a few as well as all the other weight classes/divisions who were just as exciting to watch. Now I would willingly subscribe to this new Boxnation channel even if it were £50 per month. But that's if the likes of today's standard of boxers were anywhere near as good as those who I've mentioned above but sadly in my opinion they're not. So that's why I'll stick to ESPN where I'm guaranteed quality every time whoever happens to be on.. The above post is only an opinion of mine of which I'm entitled to. |

Depending on what your TV package is there's still plenty of good boxing out there without Boxnation. Amir Khan and Carl Froch are both on SKY Sports, Eurosport show replays of recent international fights every Tuesday night plus Tyson Fury is on Channel 5 every few months. Oh and ESPN Friday Night Fights returns to ESPN on the 06th January 2012. The shows tend to feature unknown fighters but boy they give it their all. Channel 4 still show KOTV even though it's tucked away at about 3am on a Wednesday morning. I watched it earlier. The main event was highlights from the recent Boxnation broadcast of Nathan Cleverly Vs. Tony Bellew. Even without Boxnation, boxing is getting some really good TV exposure at the moment. I beleive the last Tyson Fury fight on Channel 5 peaked with an audience of 3.5 million. |

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
So true about the standard of today's boxers not being up to par with the old legends. Some of those guys had 50-100 bouts or more during the course of their professional career... modern fighters like Haye struggle to reach even 30!
And the channel pic again... https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/11/25.jpg |
