I do hope you are right because i think that will make sky drop the £10 charge plus the sky hd is now standard we will have to wait and see sky must be getting soft in their old age who would have thought that you can just get phone and broadband off them now no tv needed,

I doubt it... VM will have to pay for them and there is only so much they can absorb... but we'll see... my own thoughts are they will charge £5 extra for Sky Movies / Sports HD on top of the Movie/sport subs.

I think this would be a little bit unfair as it seems to be a charge on just a better quality picture :erm: it is not though there is any new content :(

In 5-10 years time we will be having the debate on VM message boards where possible do you need simulcast SD channels where there is a HD variant.

Its not just a better picture, its better sound too.

If not as if charging extra for HD is new. Everyone does it: Sky; Xbox Live Marketplace; Blu Ray; Hell, even Virgin (via Filmflex).

If VM are going to charge for HD sports and movies, then this a good time to redress the balance in the falling value of the VIP pack by adding the content to the package for free.

Sorry off topic but that is not true Love Film.com rental prices is no difference between Blu Ray & DVD, that is why I would probably never rent a HD film from filmflex.

I just can't see VM taking the hit as they don't really make any money on the SD ones at the moment. I know they will be getting a better price for the Sport, but movies are not covered by Ofcom ruling.

FilmFlex works best for the occasional viewer like myself, who wants convenience.

If you watch loads of movies then you'd be better subscribing to Sky Movies or things like LoveFilm.

Now that VM have sold their channels to SKY (I know they still have a stake in uktv channels) I must ask the question if it is so much effort for small returns in hosting a TV platform why do it:confused:

On the second point I couldn't agree more, Filmflex is for the casual film watcher, I must admit if there was much saving from dumping the SKY movies collection from the sport I would have done it years ago.Sorry hard to quote on a iPod touch:(

VM make thier money on the TV side with the XL pack, plus it's the broadband and 'phone they make the most profit on... broadband being the hero product.

I think with the added HD and TIVO coming later this year, we should see a marked improvement in the tv side, profit wise :)

I think VM will definitely charge extra for sports and movies in HD. Some of the others, like Sky One etc. will probably be added to XL free to make it make up for it.

There is no way VM will be able to cover the cost otherwise.

Media Boy EXCLUSIVE: Media Boy given more info on the BSkyB/VMTV take over.

I have been told that Virgin hope to launch Sky1 HD, Sky News HD, Sky Real Lives HD, Sky Arts 1 HD and Sky Arts 2 HD on Virgin TV in a few weeks, once the deal has been approved in Ireland.

My insider also thinks that for the Sky Movies and Sky Sports HD Channels viewers maybe charge extra if they want them.

But the Basics HD Channels may probably all end up on the XL Pack.
