Notice how reform announce their welfare statement after the vote, all those turkeys voting for Christmas as 21% of Clacton is in receipt of pip. Funny how their tough decisions only ever effect the little people and not say the multi millionaire crypto dealers for instance

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is not means-tested. Your personal savings, capital, income, and employment status do not affect whether you can get it or how much you are paid

so it does effect crypto millionaires, glad to see it is a fair policy.

Fortunately, crypto millionaires don't tend to live in the UK. Making money from transferring money from sanctioned nations and criminals is not the kind of activity this country is particularly keen on.

I receive PIP. So for the first time in years my voting-against policy has a specific target. Until now I've voted against by not voting because I didn't trust any of them. But now, I am going to vote against Farage, i.e. anyone but him. He's blaming mass immigration for everything - including, now, the hosepipe ban! Hello, heatwave, anybody?!

Plus wanting to reinstate fossil fuels? Shortsighted as Trump, who hopefully will be shot any day now (hi, Echelon, you bug!).

A moron who entertains that prat with a bin on his head is no-one I want to vote for. Politics is/are meant to be serious, you idiot! (Can't say what I want to say, as this is a family forum!)

I could never really countenance non voting, if I really couldn't find anyone to vote for or wasn't obligated to vote for someone, I just used to vote in the interests of the least well off person I knew be that in terms of wealth or health

Quote:

The organisers of "Farage Fest" - a victory party and rally for the Reform UK leader after the Clacton by-election - are being investigated for failing to get permission to hold it.

Tendring District Council said it had "refused" to grant a Late Temporary Event Notice (LTEN) because the application had not been made in time.

Hundreds went to the overnight party attended by Nigel Farage at Great Oakley airfield, which included live music, alcohol, and a Ferris wheel.

In a statement, Reform said it had not needed a LTEN for the private event and it was "confident that no rules were broken".

Farage was re-elected MP for Clacton in the by-election on Thursday 13 August with an increased majority of 12,784.

Farage did not attend the election count where he was declared the winner.

Instead, he spent the night at the invite-only mini-festival dubbed "Farage Fest".

"Welcome to Clactonbury," Farage told cheering supporters in the early hours of Friday. Speaking on stage at the event, he added: "I'm going to be here all night."

Organisers can apply for the LTEN five working days before an event takes place.

The "Farage Fest" application was refused because it was made after this deadline.

People from the Clacton constituency who supported Farage in the by-election by displaying posters and placards received letters inviting them to the event.

They had to pay an entry fee, but could camp and park onsite for free.

Lisa Hastings, the council's corporate director for law and governance, said: "No authorisation was granted under a LTEN for the event."

Reform's statement said: "Reform UK are confident that no rules were broken and the event was conducted in accordance with the law."

The party said it had been an invite-only private event and no activity had taken place which required authorisation under the Licensing Act 2003.

It added that a LTEN had been submitted on a precautionary basis, but no reliance had been placed on it, as the party said it had not been necessary.

If Tendring District Council, the licensing authority, decides to prosecute following the investigation the organisers could face a fine or even a custodial sentence.

Erm, nobody complained…

Reform applied for a LTEN, it was refused because it was too late, Reform went ahead anyway, the Council are investigating a breach of the Licensing Law.

If, as Reform state, they are confident that no rules were broken and the event was conducted in accordance with the law, there won’t be an issue…

Reform say they didn't need permission - why did they apply for it?

The Council issued a LTEN counter notice before the event took place - a LTEN counter notice means that the event can't take place; why would the Council issue this if Farage Fest didn't need an LTEN?

btw, I see you've moved the goalposts from "people complained" to "they didn't need something that they applied for"...

From various Council website - info re TEN and LTEN requirements

Quote:

When You Need a TEN
  • You sell alcohol to guests.
  • You charge an entry fee or ticket price that includes "free" alcoholic drinks.
  • You host the party in a public or unlicensed venue (like a village hall) that does not already cover your activities.
  • You provide regulated entertainment like live or recorded music and dancing.
  • You serve hot food or hot drinks between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM.

This is quite bad and this time they're on camera: https://channel4news.substack.com/p/...med-undercover

Quote:

Undercover footage verified by Channel 4 News reveals a secret plot by senior Reform UK figures to break the law on party donations. A leading legal expert is now calling for a criminal investigation.
On video, appearing to conspire to break the law on foreign donations.

It seems that:
  • They openly discussed a US firm paying for polling. This donation was never declared
  • Two senior Reform figures are implicated in the recording
  • They discuss keeping it secret and that "they'll get away with it".
  • They also discussed a £500,000 donation with the undercover team, making it clear it would be the US-based father giving money via his UK-based son. This is textbook illegal.
  • Farage was at one meeting; he seems savvy enough to have not directly implicated himself when the donation was discussed.
  • The polling that was paid for was conducted by JL Partners Polling and given to the Telegraph without disclosing it was ultimately backed by Reform. A breach of the British Polling Council's rules. The Telegraph didn't know Reform (via a US company) paid for it.

Reform UK says two senior officials have stepped down as the party launched an investigation into claims about funding aired during a Channel 4 News report.

Nigel Farage's senior aide Dan Jukes and Reform's head of policy James Orr have both stood down pending the outcome of the internal probe, the party said.

A Reform UK spokesman said: "The party believes it is important that the investigation is allowed to proceed independently and without prejudice.

"No further comment will be made while the investigation is ongoing."
Not sure how an "internal probe" can be "independent"…

The Reform Chairman and the Reform Deputy Leader have different views on the two individuals future…

Quote:

On Friday morning, Reform UK chairman Lee Anderson told Sky News there was "no chance" of Jukes and Orr returning to the party.

This appeared to be contradicted by Reform's deputy leader Richard Tice, who told BBC Radio 4's Today programme minutes later that "it's not actually, in the nicest possible way, for any individual to make that determination" as the investigation continues.

The reality is that the investigation team would have worked on appearing credible first and gaining trust before meeting them, I imagine.

I also think the two Reform senior aides were pretty careless and, of course, completely willing to do this without thinking.

Farage was very careful about what he would openly say in the meeting. The reporters asked about the donation that was being planned (which would be illegal) and he didn't go 'we'll get away with it' and just moved on.

They do seem to have a habit of incorrectly claiming the police are preventing them from doing things - not attending the declaration at Clacton and now not starting on time in Birmingham. Does not look like the approach of a party that is confident in governing the country.

Nigel Farage has suggested that he was misled by one of his closest political aides, as he seeks to distance himself from the scandal over illegal foreign donations that is engulfing his party.

The Reform UK leader was secretly recorded by an undercover journalist being told how they planned to circumvent electoral laws to fund the party.

The meeting had been arranged by Dan Jukes, one of Farage’s most trusted aides, who was trying to secure what would have been an illegal £500,000 donation for the party from an American businessman.

But Farage insisted on Sunday that he was told in advance of the meeting that the businessman was a permissible donor because his family office was based in London — that would have made the donation legitimate. Separate undercover footage revealed that Jukes knew that was not the case.

“I was told before the meeting that it was a global business, but there was the family office, was based in London,” he told the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg. “A global family business. Look, my job wasn’t to do compliance. My job wasn’t to do a background check. My job was to turn up at a lunch, have a glass of wine and shake somebody’s hand.”

Reform UK has received a £36m donation from British cryptocurrency billionaire Ben Delo - making it the largest single donation to a UK political party on record.

Mr Delo said he was making the donation to create "a level playing field" with other parties and ensure that Reform is given a "fair fight" at the polls in the next general election.

The donation makes him Reform's largest donor ahead of fellow crypto entrepreneur Christopher Harborne, who donated £9m to the party in August.

Reform given £72m by two crypto billionaires in record-breaking haul

British cryptocurrency billionaire Ben Delo said he was making his £36m donation to create "a level playing field" with other parties - and ensure that Reform is given a "fair fight" at the polls in the next general election.

Fellow crypto entrepreneur Christopher Harborne has now decided to match the donation, netting Reform UK £72m in the space of two days.

The UK is nowhere near as bad as the US. We have so many rules about political spending, and only one media market, that you can't just buy elections here.

Even Reform's millions will be difficult to spend in formats other than social media.

Of course, if they're elected, they'll change that.

They've been honest on that score and acknowledged their members do.

However, the bitcoin billionaires know that if Nige tells his faithful flock that the £72m is unconditional, they will believe him.

Apart from quite possibly a villa in Spain, a yacht, a Scottish castle (complete with moat and maybe one of those motor homes that are in vogue up there) ;)

He could possibly use it to try *buying* votes, but that's not going to work, neither is building a platform advocating for bitcoin to be recognised UK currency.

Thoughts?

Yes, you’re right - getting money from Unions who gather it from millions of individual workers who all reside and pay tax in this country and who have opted-in to make a contribution to a Political Fund is almost exactly the same as receiving tens of millions of funding from money-laundering billionaires who decided to live overseas to avoid paying tax…

Why - Delo pled guilty to the offence, and then he was pardoned, not exonerated…

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly79gpp22do

Quote:

In 2022, Delo was convicted in the US for failing to implement adequate anti-money laundering controls at BitMex. He was sentenced to 30 months of probation and given a $10m (£7.3m) fine for violating the US Bank Secrecy Act, but was subsequently pardoned by President Donald Trump.
https://www.justice.gov/pardon/frequ...sked-questions

Quote:

A pardon is an expression of the President’s forgiveness and can be granted in recognition of the applicant’s acceptance of responsibility for the crime and established good conduct for a significant period of time after conviction or completion of sentence
Quote:

Please also be aware that if you were to be granted a presidential pardon, the pardoned offense would not be removed from your criminal record. Instead, both the federal conviction as well as the pardon would both appear on your record.
His company was fined another $100 million for money-laundering in January 2025…

https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr...nk-secrecy-act

Quote:

Company Willfully Flouted U.S. Anti-Money Laundering Laws to Boost Revenue

Matthew Podolsky, Attorney for the United States, Acting under Authority Conferred by 28 U.S.C. § 515, announced that HDR GLOBAL TRADING LTD., a/k/a “BITMEX”, was sentenced today to a fine of $100 million for violating the Bank Secrecy Act by willfully failing to establish, implement, and maintain an adequate anti-money laundering (“AML”) and know-your-customer (“KYC”) program.

Attorney for the United States Matthew Podolsky said: “Anti-money laundering and know-your-customer rules protect Americans from fraud, combat money laundering, and prevent the financing of terrorist activity. It is critical that all financial institutions, including cryptocurrency exchanges, comply with these rules to protect our country’s economy and national security. Today’s sentence sends a clear message that companies that willfully violate these rules and refuse to implement AML/KYC programs will face consequences.”

According to the allegations in the Information and other filings and statements made in court:

Arthur Hayes, Benjamin Delo, and Samuel Reed founded BITMEX in or about 2014, and Gregory Dwyer became BITMEX’s first employee in 2015 and later its Head of Business Development. BITMEX, which has long serviced and solicited business from U.S. traders and operated through U.S. offices, was required to register with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (“CFTC”) and to establish and maintain an adequate AML program. AML programs ensure that financial institutions, such as BITMEX, are not exploited for illicit purposes and serve to protect the integrity of the U.S. financial system and national security more broadly.

BITMEX and its executives knew that because BITMEX served U.S. customers, it was required to implement an AML program that included a KYC component but chose to flaunt those requirements, requiring only that customers provide an email address to use BITMEX’s services. Indeed, senior executives each knew that customers residing in the U.S. continued to access BITMEX’s trading platform through at least in or about 2018, and that BITMEX policies nominally in place to prevent such trading were toothless or easily overridden to serve BITMEX’s bottom line goal of obtaining revenue through the U.S. market without regard to U.S. criminal laws. Corporate executives took affirmative steps purportedly designed to exempt BITMEX from the application of U.S. laws like AML and KYC requirements, despite knowing of BITMEX’s obligation to implement such programs by operating in the U.S. As part of BITMEX’s willful evasion of U.S. AML laws, the company lied to a bank about the purpose and nature of a subsidiary to allow BITMEX to pump millions of dollars through the U.S. financial system.

Hayes, Delo, and Reed, BITMEX’s three founders and top executives, and Dwyer, another top executive, all previously entered guilty pleas for violating the Bank Secrecy Act and were sentenced in 2022. The corporation entered a guilty plea on July 10, 2024, and was sentenced today.

In addition to the fine, BITMEX was sentenced to two years’ probation.

Mr. Podolsky praised the outstanding investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s New York Money Laundering Investigation Squad.

The prosecution is being handled by the Office’s Illicit Finance & Money Laundering Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica Greenwood and Thane Rehn are in charge of the prosecution.

It’s no big deal. There was no public outrage when Liberal Democrat Cameron Thomas was arrested on suspicion of assault and controlling and coercive behaviour last June. Or any of the others over the years.

Even when John Prescott punched that guy on the High Street all those years ago, Tony Blair didn’t think it was a big deal.

“John is John!” he said, blithely and with a big grin on his face.

But when it’s a Reform UK politician, people tear down walls in the rush to condemn them and their party. It’s pathetic, really, isn’t it?

He didn’t "upset the Banks" (the Department of Justice isn’t a bank), he broke the law and pled guilty…

I think Reform will use the money to employ campaign managers and branch coordinators in hundreds of seats across the country (they’re already advertising for them), pay for more mail drops and door-to-door canvassing to identify switching voters and non-voters who might be persuaded to turn out, pay for more data gathering and analysis, and then use this info by paying for specifically targeted social media ads and mainstream media in any upcoming elections (Parliamentary and Local), and probably to pay for more Policy experts to help give shape to more policies than "crypto is good" and "ship brown people back"….

Nigel Farage more unpopular than ever, new poll shows

Nigel Farage now has a net favourability rating of -45, identical to Sir Keir Starmer’s score just before his resignation as prime minister

A new poll conducted by YouGov shows that almost seven in ten Britons (69 per cent) say they have an unfavourable opinion of the Reform leader.

While this is within the margin of error of last month’s figure (67 per cent), it is the highest figure recorded by YouGov's tracker for Mr Farage in the ten years it has run.

This includes nearly six in ten Britons (57 per cent) seeing Mr Farage very unfavourably, while just 24 per cent have a favourable opinion of the Reform UK leader.
