Paramount+ is utterly pants. I’ve got a reduced 12 month sub at the moment, which I won’t be renewing. In future I may take out a couple of months here or there to binge Star Trek if they release new stuff.

It’s like any sector, multiple streaming platforms appear all with their own content propositions looking for market share. Some will have better propositions that others and be able to command direct subs due to their content. I.e. Disney & Netflix.

Others will have content but other add on services to bolster their offering I.e Prime and Apple

Then you have just the ones that can only offer content but no other additional service. I.e Paramount, Discovery. They do deals with other delivery vehicles like Sky.

There’s only so much subscription money to go around. The likes of Britbox, and the like, will not survive. I pay for many services and i wouldn’t pay for it.

I only have it as it comes free with Sky. All the Star Trek Stuff is one of their USPs ( it’s a certainty there will be the new Picard spin off), Tulsa King was also good, but that’s it.

As I say above, it will only exist as an add on. No one will pay for it by itself.

Prob is Paramount+ don't allow travel like Nextflix and Disney+ do,
with Paramount+ you need seperate subs for UK and USA.

The US is a separate app to the international app , presumably because certain content they don't have the distribution rights outside the US or only handle on behalf of third parties.

Still doesn't mean people travelling shouldn't be able to use their international Paramount+ login if/when they're in the US.
It's making a easy thing complicated that's all Amazon are the same too.

It will certainly help them by having these rights sewn up, but the EPL is more important to Sky than any other broadcaster.

They will be encouraged by the cutbacks at BT Sport, exit from tennis broadcasting by Amazon, lack of traction by DAZN in the UK and comparatively small sporting investment by Apple.

Not that I'm aware of. I'm happy to watch in on my streaming sticks. I suspect the V6 version won't be improved as Virgin only appear to care about Apps on the the 360

I have the ITVX streamer on my V6 with 360 software, and I agree the streamer is slow and clunky, but once into the streamer, it plays just fine.

Somewhat sluggish on several platforms. I'm guessing they forgot about the KISS acronym at the design stage.

My god, my NFL Gamepass subscription has just been transferred to DAZN.
I've had a look though what they offer and I believe NFL fans like myself will be keeping the service going until next February!
I cannot see anything on the platform worth paying more than 99p a month for (and even then I'm being generous!)
How have the NFL sold their content to this ridiculous service?

ozsat 28-06-2023 07:31

Where does it say 99p per month?

I can only find £0.99 one off to 1 Aug - then one-off £150.99 for the season pass.

I think he’s using that as his valuation of a poor selection of content. Not that it’s a standing price.

I see what you mean.

I have subscribed to NFL Pass before and, although expensive, the offering was very good. I suspect the offering via DAZN will be the same - so every NFL game live except those on Sky Sports.

But I've had issues with DAZN and their account handling, and don't trust DAZN at this time.

The other morning I happened to find on NFL Network and programme about the development of the tv coverage. Although NFL based a lot of the stuff is used now by UK broadcasters for EPL and EFL. Showing you how the SkyCam actually works, how those 10 yard markers appear on the pitch and behind the players, the development of the sound for players, refs etc.

The NFL Network is now included free with the DAZN standard subscription - but is easily found elsewhere if you look around.

Sorry I may not have explained myself very clearly, as an NFL fan whilst expensive I really like the Gamepass service,
DAZN on the other hand looks like a steaming pile of you know what and I can't believe they expect people to pay for it.

I'm not having a great start with DAZN, they take so long to send a link to verify my email address that the link has timed out and is no longer valid lol.

WBD have confirmed that TNT Sport will be part of Discovery+ via the entertainment and sports pack.
No price rise has been announced at this time but one feels it will come.
SKYQ/Glass and stream customers will continue to get Discovery+ as part of their package as will bttv customers.
Virgin media are in talks about a deal for Discovery+ to be included as part of the top tier tv pack.

BT had already confirmed that 'BT Sports via BT' customers will have the TNT Sports channels added to their already free Discovery+ 'Documentaries and Sport' at no additional cost - as you are already paying for them.

No information as to whether TNT Sports will be added to 'BT Sports via Sky' customers pack. SkyQ customers also get 'Documentaries and Sport' at no extra cost.

There has been rumours across the forums of VirginMedia negotations.

TNT Sports at £25pm was never going to be free on a £7pm pack - beyond maybe a short trial.

So just been back on Discovery+ chat and asked, and the replies give the following:
If you subscribe direct to Discovery+ - TNT Sports will be an additional subscription to the current 'Documentaries' and 'Documentaries and Sports' pack. But they have no details on pricing.
If you subscribe eith either BT or Sky providing the account payments - then whether you get TNT Sports will depend on what the company providing your billing autohrise.

BT have said current BT Sports customers will get TNT Sports at no extra cost.

No news from Sky.

I took it from RTX who are normallt very reliable https://rxtvinfo.com/2023/tnt-sports...-need-to-know/
BT and Warner Bros Discovery have assured viewers that they’ll still be able to watch all the live sport that was on BT Sport.

But from 18th July, Discovery+ subscribers will be able to access all four TNT Sports channels in the UK. This applies both to existing and new Discovery+ subscribers with the Entertainment + Sports pack, which currently costs £6.99 a month, but is subject to change.

Sky Q, Sky Glass and Stream customers can already opt in to get Discovery+ at no extra cost through Sky. Current BT Sport subscribers are also eligible for access to Discovery+ for the duration of their sports subscription.

Re: Streaming services news, offers and general chit chat

I get BT/TNT Sports through my EE mobile account and have prior to this month been paying extra for the Big Screen Addon to view it on my TV.
However today I noticed whilst checking my bill this hasn't been charged for, not wanting to be without TNT for the start of the Premier League season next weekend I phoned EE to find out what is happening as my online account didn't make sense.
The agent I spoke to couldn't work it out either at first, but after he consulted with colleagues and management for a good 15-20 minutes came back to me and said the Big Screen Addon has been scrapped and as long as you have BT/TNT Sports in your EE subscription it will work on all TV/Stick/Web apps without any extra costs.

I don't know if this is just for legacy accounts but if not it might be worth investigating for EE customers or even people looking to sign up with them, I am now getting the sports channels for £8 a month instead of the £16 I was paying before.

Oh and I don't know how long it will last but anything that is being shown live on TNT seems to be on Discovery+ too.

Discovery+ is the new streaming home of TNT Sports in the UK, replacing the dedicated BT Sport app which will be shut down in a few months

Guessing it might be a legacy deal , TNT Sports on Discovery+ is £20 per month via EE which includes Discovery+ Entertainment and Eurosport when I checked my EE mobile account.

Yes, episode 8 is also missing from my 360 box.

It’s available to purchase on Amazon Prime, for what it’s worth.

I'm not paying Amazon for one episode, it's not just that episode from Outlander that's missing, none of the Lionsgate shows were working last night.
I've just raised this in the community forum, hopefully, someone may be able to shed some light on this.

Study is about the US but what happens in the US may well come or apply here!

Streaming services now cost more than cable TV

Netflix and Disney Plus subscriptions have risen in price by more than 50 per cent over the last year

The combined cost of popular streaming services like Netflix and Disney Plus is now more expensive than traditional cable television, according to new analysis.

Recent price rises to all of the main streaming platforms for ad-free subscriptions have pushed the cost above the average cable TV package of $83 per month for the first time.

Calculations by the Financial Times found that a bundle of the top US streaming services – including Disney+, Hulu, Netflix and Peacock – rose in price from $73 to $87 over the last year.

“From a business point of view, streaming was going to have to move in this way – the price point was going to have to go up,” David Rogers, a professor at Columbia Business School and expert in digital business, told the FT.

“This was accelerated by the fact that we no longer have cheap debt to flood the market with streaming content.”

Difference is though with streaming you can sub to them on a monthly basis so can swap them around as you please, where with cable, sattilite etc you are locked in a long contract.

Exactly. Too many people think they need access to all the streamers, but they don’t.

I won’t be renewing my Disney+ subscription as I cannot find enough that interests me. Now TV is also on its way out in my house.

I do subscribe to several streamers, though, so my wife can have the widest range of programming to enjoy, but if I lived alone, I’d probably be more picky and do a lot of swapping about month to month. Then again, maybe I will decide that I can’t be arsed with all that!

Only have Netflix , not sure why I bother, hardly watched it for months, writers strike is not helping. Just thinking it's to much faff to cancel and then renew. The only thing I am really waiting for is" Wednesday"

You can, just in the same way you can dabble in and out of public utilities like electricity, water, gas, railways etc.

If more people are creaming more profits out the end user is losing.

The impact of the writers strike hasn’t hit yet. Are you really searching properly for the good material? There’s plenty on there.

Would anyone even notice a writers strike in streaming land? Presumably old hat stuff, rebadged on an individual basis to those who haven’t seen it, would be suffice?

Freely? What a terrible name, it also sounds very very similar to Amazon's offering Freevee so maybe some legal complications in the future.

There were 3rd party tablet and phone apps doing this 10 years ago. Absolutely brilliant they were, until the rights holders threatened them and got them all closed down, only to replace them with nothing at all.

All I can really say about this is it’s about time. They don’t deserve a fanfare for doing next year what they could easily have done in 2012.

Britbox stopped taking subs and directed people to ITVX. Some programmes on ITVX still marked as Britbox.

It went the same way every product goes when nobody really understands what it’s meant to be for. What was it: a video library for classic Doctor Who and 1970s sitcoms or a platform for new British productions? And given that every classic British show worth re-watching has already been watched to death over the past 20 years on various Satellite channels and/or Netflix, was there enough value in any of it to be worth paying for now? And why pay for new British content from (mostly) ITV when there’s a ton of free-to-view new British content across multiple channels already, thanks to the way broadcasting is structured in the UK?

The truth is, Apple TV+, Netflix, Disney+ and Prime TV all do rather well at British made original material. Heck, Disney’s making whole chunks of its Marvel and Star Wars universes in the UK and it’s not even relegating its British actors to token villain roles. The idea that we needed a distinctively British streaming service was always a bit odd.

Where we’re at right now with this is very similar to where we were with OnDigital 20 odd years ago. What was supposed to be the digital terrestrial replacement for traditional analogue broadcast flopped because the marketing majored on the stuff they wanted to sell you rather than on the fact that all the public service channels, plus a lot more, were on the service for free. ITV digital tried to take it on, made the same basic errors, and flopped again. Only when they streamlined it and branded it Freeview did the public get the message and the analogue switch-off could be planned for.

AFAIK Britbox didn’t even try to act as an aggregator for public service channels, which is absolutely should have done given the PSBs jointly owned it. That might have given it a chance at attracting users (tho someone tell me if it did do that, I didn’t use it). If broadcast over IP is to be a part of the future mix then the EPG we’re all used to needs to be replicated somehow, and like Freeview and Freesat before it, Freely might just do what earlier commercial efforts failed to do.

Our public service broadcasters did try - it was called Project Kangaroo, but Ofcom closed it down.

Because they tried to make it an everything burrito from day one, mixing broadcast and on-demand content in a way Ofcom believed would hamper the development of private sector efforts. TVCatchup and similar services simply rebroadcast free-to-air satellite channels as IP streams, which you could select from a simple EPG.

Britbox is still a stand-alone service outside the UK but in the UK is now a brand used on some of the content on ITV Extra which absorbed the service in this country.

YouTube launches Primetime Channels in the UK
10 October 2023

YouTube Primetime integrates premium subscription services including Paramount+, so you no longer need to leave the YouTube app.

Primetime Channels launch partners include Paramount+, Hayu and Crime+Investigation Play. DAZN coming soon.
Subscribers will be able to sign up to services through YouTube.
UK becomes third country in the world to get access to Primetime Channels

Users in the UK will be able to pay and watch premium services through YouTube from 17:00 today, 10th October.

At launch, YouTube UK users will be able to access streaming services including Paramount+, Lionsgate+, Hayu, History Play and Crime & Investigation Play. Services from sports streamer DAZN will be launching shortly on the platform.
Why is YouTube integrating other streaming services on its platform?

According to a study by Nielsen, 65% of YouTube viewers in the UK discover TV content through the YouTube recommendation engine. 49% of YouTube viewers in the UK who watch content related to streaming services said that the platform made them want to continue using a paid service. Until now, viewers who had discovered content from a programme shown on a subscription service had to leave YouTube and access a different app to watch. https://rxtvinfo.com/2023/youtube-la...els-in-the-uk/

Not Discovery+ yet although that might more complicated with Live Sports streaming, there was delay in a Amazon Prime adding Discovery+ Premium subscription option.

Why is Pluto TV etc playback so dire, no matter what device i try?

I mean all these extra Virgin stream channels.

I think it is 30i fixed.

At least BBC iPlayer has 50i playback for smooth sports playback.

Apart from the first four episodes, as the person who owns the rights is demanding more money than the BBC is willing to pay.

It’s unfortunate, and as copyright lasts for 70 years after the author’s death it could mean the original story can’t be broadcast by the BBC for another 14 years (Anthony Coburn died in 1977).

Netflix to raise prices in UK again!

It's finally time for me to cancel my Netflix subscription and stick to using BeeTV and Amazon Prime for all my streaming needs!

Quote:

The streaming giant said monthly charges for its UK basic service would rise by £1 to £7.99 and the advert-free option will increase by £2 to £17.99.

It reflects the firm's growing confidence, after adding 8.8 million subscribers from July to September.

It was the most in more than two years.

Sadly it seems to becoming a common occurence with the streaming giants.

Our strategy like many others is subscribe to the ones that serve your household best and get rid of the others.

It is a scrapper app that searches known content sharing sites and routes access to the content. It most likely creates its lists via api to TMDB and TVDB
