So it turns out the reason I was admitted was a reaction to a pill (antibiotic) that the hospital had prescribed. This is the one that I was told previously not to take but I missed it and Natalie was at work. Although not a fatal reaction (obviously ;) ) - it did end up with me needing to go to hospital and being very shook up. Still at least it's another experience for me to have and know that taking it is definitely /bad/ :)

on the plus side I feel like I know what it's like to have Titan mushrooms now :)

I know. My council says not to have your bin lid open on collection day or the bin will not be emptied. There is one neighbour, who every week the bin is anywhere between 45 and 120 degrees open. And still gets emptied. Winds me up, and council refused to believe it. Even with photographic and video evidence of it.

Well, last night was an adventure. I spent all night in my A&E department attached to an ECG machine. When I got home yesterday, my heart was racing so much. Got a relative to take my pulse and it was 130. I got chest pains and was sick twice, called 111 who said based on symptoms they would send an ambulance to me. Had a thorough checkup at home before being taken to hospital.

Doctor there thinks I might have the start of a fast heartbeat, but couldn't find anything to suggest why. Discharged with the advice of keeping an eye on it, if it happens again call 999 straight away and come back to hospital.

Compared to many people's problems on here, this might seem small, but it has made me apoplectic with rage.

My aunt (who is an older lady), has sky multiroom, and asked me to come over as the second box (an ancient Amstrad unit) had stopped working.

What I found when I got there was positively shocking. It seems that when the multiroom was installed, the sky "installer" decided rather than running a cable from the dish to the upstairs bedroom (it's a small house and the dish isn't overly far from the bedroom window) he decided to run a cable in to my aunt's living room, then splice in to some 30+ year old, thin as wet string, unshielded coax cable that was left over from the previous aerial installation.

He's even used bloody aerial plugs rather than F connectors to bodge the cable together, and he's then stuck a short length of proper shielded coax on the other end to try and hide what he's done.

That's the trouble with some installation companies. They give their installers a list of jobs as long as your arm, so a lot of installers bodge something that works rather than do a good job.

They don't even care if it works reliably, as if it's not, that's someone else's problem.

It's not right though, from a consumer or commercial point of view. How much money are Sky, Virgin, BT and all the other providers wasting because they are having to send technicians out to fix installs that were bodged in a hurry?

rhyds 25-08-2015 09:38

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

I will say that in my experience VM are better regarding the technical standard of installs, as cable systems are interconnected and interference from one dodgy install could theoretically impact quite a few customers.

The basic problem is the piecework system the "installer" teams work under. As you mention the installers are required to do x amount of installs per day, and the system encourages corner cutting and rushing. I've heard of others being told by openreach installers that they could only have the master socket installed in a hallway (basically because the bloke didn't want the extra work of running some cable to where the customer actually wanted it)

Never really had a problem with Virgin's installs. Their fault reporting can be a different matter (had a few occasions when I've had to report a fault and almost ended up in an argument when I had to try and persuade the guy on the other end that the fault was not in my equipment), but their installs have always been professionally done.

I think the problem with Sky is that, as you say, if a VM installer bodges and install (at least outside the house), it can mess up the connection for other people. A Sky installer can do what he wants, but there is no way on earth he can do anything that will affect anyone but the customer whose install he is working on, unless he manages to bodge the install so badly it takes out one of the transponders on the Astra satellite, in which case I can think of a few government agencies that might want to employ him. :)

Got a phone call from the gastro consultant regarding a recent colonoscopy. The biopsy confirmed that some anomaly they found was an endocrine type of tumour. So now waiting for an MRI and a full body CAT scan to see if there are any more, the usual blood tests (that need to be sent to London for some reason) and 24-48 hour urine tests. Also found that the stricture is worse than they thought.

And on top the iron infusion is causing some probs.

I certainly don't agree with that type of disgusting trolling or making fun of mental illness and certainly nobody deserves such attacks but there are certain things he/she could have done to help prevent such abuse....for example not telling the world they tried to kill themselves.

Thank you kindly for your comments, I haven't ignored them. Not really been up to replying as not been with it now for some time.

Just back from the full body CT scan, done the bloods and urine tests, now just the MRI next week to do. I hate being in limbo, the anxiety of it all is hard going.

Thank you.

What gets me is the time to wait for the results!
Last time was told I needed certain tests, waited 6weeks for tests then another 6weeks for consultants to confirm results.

When I tried to get my emails on my IPad or PC this morning ,there was no internet. Then I received an international call telling me he was from Windwx and I had a problem with my connection, I just hung up the phone as this must be a scam, Still no internet, I went into town and came back in and everything was ok, Can these people really interfere with our internet . Very worrying.

No, they can't.

Just coincidence - worst possible case, they knew there was an outage in your area, and were cold-calling for effect.

Thanks Hugh , That puts my mind at rest. Was it a scam or a genuine call

There was a woman on facebook (Bekah Miles) who suffers from depression and has a tattoo on her thigh that reads "Im Fine" but from her point of view it says "Save Me".

She has had a massive response which has gone global, mostly positive, but a few idiots post crap.

Trolls will be trolls and you will never get rid of them.

Sadly there are some in society who have no understanding of mental or physical illnesses as it can affect anybody at anytime without much notice.

It's a combination of the troll wanting attention (good or bad), and being able to hide behind anonymity when they get called out on it.

You should see some of the abuse a member here receives just for being ill, makes me sick that the perpetrators then go about interacting with others on here as if butter wouldn't melt

If I could get hold of some of them I would shake them a bit. Or ask them how they would feel if it was someone in their family getting that kind of abuse.

Online banking systems. I was just trying to find out what my overdraft limit is so I went to the section where you can look at statements. So I ask it to display a statement and then it just sat there. I noticed at the top next to the website address a little circle with a slash in . Hovering on says that some content has been blocked. Fiddling with this got nowhere.

Eventually I realised what was happening. The statement saying click on this to read selected statement (ugh now the cat is getting in the way just because it wants breakfast !) is right at the bottom of the page and so not visible on the screen.

To cut a long story short and before cat tries some other tactic to get breakfast. If want to know your overdraft limit you have to phone them or go into a branch.

Assuming you have no pending transactions and your account is in credit, it will be the difference between your balance and "Available Funds "

That's how it works on mine. :)

Yes that's correct but I wanted to find out if a cheque had cleared and I wasn't certain what the limit was. However it be nice if they did have it displayable. I assume the reason for that is to make it easier to go overdrawn. :D

I have now looked at my other (Santander) and they do tell you what your overdraft limit is.

Not that cold here in Stevenage thankfully. I am still using the fan to keep me cool. I seem to be feeling hot all the time. In fact, it wasn't until about February this year before I felt cold for the first time.

Yes sadly those with ongoing health issues have to stump up astronomical amounts as my Mum and Dad were quoted £900 to go on a 2 week cruise.:(

Try to shop around Tinky as you might get it cheaper then that.

Can I suggest that if a CF member feels they are being constantly negatively repped unfairly, that they report it to a Moderator or one of the Site Admins.

As far as point 4 goes, we will decide if the system is being abused or not - this could, for example, be one person regularly red repping one or more another members for what we think are trivial reasons.
