So is that a bogus review on GogglePlay saying very easy to use?

Also I had no interest in this app until you mentioned 0800 numbers. They cost a fortune to use from my mobile so this might actually be worth while just for this. I wonder if you can cal faults on this when your landline goes down.

No the reviews wont be fake or bogus as some virginmedia staff would have tried it and by other methods.

This explains smartcall http://vimeo.com/m/67218929

Yes that's what we were told - it's tied into your landline package so whatever benefits you get with that are replicated when using smartcall.

While it's a handy service for some, should this not be discussed in the forum for VM Phone services and not Coming Soon to TV?

That's probably because you just get abuse from the naysayers whenever you try to give them some good news.

The missing Sky channels are likely to be with us very soon now, but certainly this autumn.

BomberAF went deep undercover at the sky trying to get us all the sky channels. But he has spent too much time at sky HQ and has turned to the dark side forever. I am sad to say he sells sky to people in a motorway service station. Err I might of made it all up sorry BomberAF :)

Might be a good thing no news something big might be on the way. Virgin won't say anything as usual. Then by the end of next week a lot of rumors will be busted or confirmed. Personally think one or two channels arrive like a lifetime (lifetime has been confirmed). But all the sky channels won't arrive.hope I am wrong :tu:

I think it's even less likely now. Sky have just announced that for £4.99 a month, through NowTV you can get Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Living, Sky Arts 1, Discovery, MTV, Gold, Disney and Fox. No contract needed.

They are going to want to push that even more now.

[Edit] and all of the box set on demand stuff too inc SA

That's a pretty good package they have put together for this. They are certainly being aggressive with the pricing and this could be an interesting shake up for the suppliers. I do notice this is only marked as "Introductory pricing" so it will be interesting to see if they raise the price later on. I know with the movie service they had to reduce the price as it was too high.

I think it means it's more likely SA will come to virgin media now

1) SA is no longer exclusive to the sky platform so sky lose out on their exclusive statement they loved harping on in adverts to get virgin media customers

2) the now tv package is tailored for short term customers who want cheap pricing and no contract. It's a different customer compared to the virgin media customer who's fixed into a contract usually paying probably ten x that amount.

Sky are opening up sky Atlantic to different customers now. It would make sense for it to come to virgin media now

Whether it does is another thing ;)

It's all a question of interpretation - after all, NowTV is a Sky platform. I'm sure they could still claim exclusivity in some form if they want to. £4.99 is very good, and shows that they have learnt the lessons of their movie launch.

That £4.99 Now TV package plus Freeview would cover 95% of my TV watching so it's quite tempting. Probably time I called retentions...

I think you can read this in two ways though. This gives Sky another route for viewers to get Sky Atlantic, and keeping it away from VM could be seen as even more likely. It also lessens the rumbling of uncompetitive behaviour - there is not a contract-less way of getting Sky Atlantic - along with a good selection of other channels.

[Edit] thought a bit more and that's really good pricing. I would imagine after 31st March it will be up to £9.99 per month

Nail and head spring to mind , the problem is for Sky with me they may now actually lose money , I've been contemplating dropping sport this would now mean I could add entertainment to my Now TV movies sub and the total would only be paying £13.98 and all our viewing would be covered as we have a Youview box as well.

I don't use it on my YV , I have a few Now TV boxes and a PS3 , its also worth mentioning at the moment quite a lot of US content isn't available probably due to content contracts being negotiated some while ago , this happened when Sky On Demand first launched.

I agree: more likely to be on VM now as Sky will get more money wholesaling Atlantic to VM than they'll make on the NowTV subs.
Anyone know what the price will be after the "introductory £4.99 a month" expires? Also, is this SD or will it be HD? Sky Movies are supposedly 720p/1080i on NowTV.

Fair point , after reading on the community it seems to suggest the shows are only blocked on the live TV side so may be available On Demand.

Thinking about this .... I may just buy the box before Christmas then activate the months free movies over the period, then cancel after

It will work out cheaper doing it that way than subscribing through Virgin for the movies

Good Food +1 EPG is broadcasting on Virgin Channel 242 (Bio) as well as it own channel.

It took Media Boy HQ two hours (I know I am an slow eater) to work out where the EPG was coming from.

It showing 'NOW: Rachel Allen's' on both

But Dance Mums is broadcasting on Virgin Channel 242.

EDIT: Maybe it just doing it on V and V+ Boxes.

haven't you all ready got that on your sky box MM

I've had a quick browse and it seems very lacking in the Atlantic catch up department. Only current and no previous seasons of The Newsroom, Veep and Broadwalk Empire... so not a lot of use. Plus there are many other Atlantic shows missing completely

I can't even see box sets of the Wire which they promote in their press release

Unless I've missed something, I'm not currently impressed.

its on the main EPG and is bloody annoying as its showing the correct item but listing the wrong entry

I use a V+ box .

Is that a personal view, or do you have a source/insider, Den? ;)

If it does turn up on VM (and I'm not saying it won't; I just don't know), it's hard to see it having more content, than Now TV and, as per my previous post, that is sadly lacking in the ability to catch up on previous seasons of current shows.

Random question completely unrelated to any current topic :)

Does anyone know why ESPN HD shows as being on channel 542 on the online TV Guide, yet is actually on channel 530 on the TV?

Not sure why it would move up there!

The insiders are adamant that we will see the Sky channels arrive in the coming weeks and generally they have not been too astray with what they have always said before.

At time of posting.

-No new channels are set to launch this week on Virgin Media
-An rumour poster has confirmed to me the same info that I have been told 'Do Not Post' by an insider last week.

New Rumour:

Lifetime HD may also launch on Virgin Media.

  2. A Confirmed Rumour
  3. Officially Confirmed

From:
  1. A Virgin Media Viewer

  4. Your Opinion

Although I don't believe what dj wayne has posted, as I am pretty confident there will be several Sky branded channels launching very soon, the way it looks to me is if you aren't part of the circle of regular posters on this thread (in other words a clique) then you get shot down for having a different opinion or view to them.

Why is it rumours from some people are taken as gospel and others are shot down in flames?

He didn't specifically mention anything about Sky Arts 2 HD closing, so maybe it's only the SD variant that's shutting to accommodate the Sky Bravo SD channel (due to the closure of the Sky SD launch queue).

I wonder if Sky Arts 2 SD will continue on VM? I don't imagine that it would take much to downscale the HD version for VM use, or is this the beginning of the end for the SD versions of channels?

Apparently, a market research company are to gauge the feelings of customers regarding this change.

My personal view is that this is Sky testing the water on the cessation of the SD variantsof channels.

It's not so much a clique, it's based on how reliable their information has been over a long period of time on the forum. They have built up a reputation and element of trust with others over the years. It takes time to build up that relationship. I know it seems unfair but when someone who doesn't regularly post, or visit the forum shares something juicy it's hard to really trust what they are saying without them providing a source.

It's exactly as I've said before. It is 100% a clique which is making this forum very insular and appear unfriendly. That could be a very wrong impression but is the impression given by all the wink wink and private messaging.

Fair enough, but still doesn't seem very friendly to mock that person, it's not the first time I've noticed it on here either.

And it shouldn't come down to how many times a poster has given information or posted on here, he's stated it's a reliable source so for the rumour believers that should be enough no?

To be honest Richard, I've not visited any other threads as regular as this one, apart from reading a few of the BB/Telecom threads, but I'd say it's more noticeable in this thread.

Maybe dj wayne is posting bollocks, but his post should be treated the exact same as someone saying the Sky channels are definitely coming this year aswell

I'm sorry that is how you feel. I've always found Cable Forum to be very welcoming. I do admit however I'm not a big fan of the nudging and winking. I can see how that would come across that there is an inner and outer circle.

On this forum it is not what is said that is important, it is who says it. Two people could say exactly the same thing and receive two completely different reactions.

As an example, I had a posting amended because I said that I have a special number to call VM as I refuse to deal with the overseas call centres. I had the "racist" word "Indian" amended to "foreign".

Meanwhile, I recently asked two people to refrain from making blatant bigoted and homophobic remarks. I was accused of attempting to moderate the forum and told that "banter" is permitted as the forum does not have to be sanitised and politically correct!

I'd say January after NOW TV and it's entertainment has had a big push in the lead up to Christmas.

Talking of NOW TV it's only £4.99 to the first 60,000 subscribers. I have no idea what anyone after this will be charged. Trying to get further info on this just now.
