If you still play on your 360 then you should just get this instead.

Seems a lot less hassle.

Re: The Xbox One Thread

You need to change the location on the console to US and reboot but also change the region of your xbox account to US and add a payment method - I use Paypal as to add a CC you need a US address. The price is +tax but if you put your address to a tax free state then you don't get charged any.

This hasn't stopped me playing any games bough via the UK store since everything is region free. There were reports of problems but that appears to be when folk have used codes purchased from eBay that were meant for a specific region.

To add Paypal:
1. Go to xbox.com and sign in
2. Click on My Account
3. Payment & Billing
4. Billing Info (menu on left)
5. Change Billing Address (I use an address in Oregon as its got 0% tax)

e.g. University of Oregon
1585 E 13th Ave
Eugene, OR 97403
United States
541-3461000

6. Change my Region (menu on left) - Select United States
7. Add Paypal (menu on left)

Then change the region on console and reboot.

When you go to the store, you will have the US store and can download apps and games on there and buy things in $$. Since you have added Paypal then that will be shown for the payment option.

I believe this affects xbox 360 as it wasn't region free. I've had no such issues with the One.

Hard to say - no one knows. Microsoft themselves encouraged it when they limited the release markets. They made a comment along the lines of you can import the console and change your market. Microsoft have a habit of changing their minds so it's anyone's guess what will happen in the future!

Quote:

When the console launches this November, we will support Xbox One in 13 markets. Xbox One may be used in all countries, including the non-launched markets. In addition, Xbox One games are not region locked. Any Xbox One game purchased at retail can be used in any country on any Xbox One.

That said, there needs to be a valid payment method corresponding to a supported launch country in order for any transactions to occur over Xbox Live, and some content may not be accessible outside launch markets due to geographic content restrictions imposed by content right holders.

The release date for the adaptor and the headphones seems a bit odd.

Amazon says the 14th for both, while GAME has no date and just says "pre-order".

But... The Microsoft UK Store lists both as being available now, and someone over on DS has already received the adaptor yesterday (two days after ordering it).

The remote's similar... Amazon lists it as being released in April, yet the MS Store says 7th March.

Re: The Xbox One Thread

Seems a bit odd they can't all get them by the same date.

I've got the headphones on order from Amazon, and will probably get the remote control.

I did think about just getting the adaptor and using my Sharkoon headset I have for my 360, but that would tie up the optical output, and I need that for my AV receiver.

Another reason I should get around to getting an HDMI AV receiver I guess, then I could get surround sound via my home cinema system and still also have surround sound headphones.

-----------------

Oh, remember the Call of Duty: Ghosts "Digital Combo Pack" that Amazon briefly sold very cheaply, only for it to shoot back up in price?

It's gone down again... Currently £26.50:

It better have streaming from a network drive too.

The Xbox One was able to stream Movies from a network drive on day one, I use a DNLA app on my smart phone called "Media House".

Music, pictures and film, (MKV files do not work) you do not need to select or change anything on the xbone, works from the home screen.

That isn't the proper way though, so I wanted the best way like on the 360, and hopefully it will come soon.

But I will give it a go though and compare it to the 360.

Re: The Xbox One Thread

As SnoopZ said, that's not a good way of doing it, especially compared to the 360/PS3.

On the 360/PS3, you can browse your shared media folder/drive and choose what you want to play via the console.

On the Xbox One, you can't do that at all. You have to push it from the PC using "Play To" if you use Windows 7/8, or you have to use an app on a smartphone to select what you want and push it to the console.

Far more awkward than last gen.

  • The 1404 update preview will run a bit longer than the 1403 preview. As a result, not all of the features listed below will be available in the first 1404 update. Some features will be enabled in 1404 updates that are rolled out later in the preview.
  • Some of the features listed below will be enabled outside of a console update. Keep an eye on the forums for announcements and information on when new features are made available.
What’s new in this release?
  • Game and app saves and updates. A game save progress bar will show you the status of your game saves. You will also be able to easily tell what games and apps are being updated or have been updated recently.
  • Friends improvements. Notifications will be added to see when favorites and friends sign in to Xbox Live. This actually was one of the most frequently requested features from the first preview wave and we made it a priority to include it in the April update. Also, friends who are in multiplayer will be identified in the friends list. We’ll also add the ability to view friends’ most popular apps.
  • Blu-ray 50 Hz video output support for content recorded at 50 Hz will resolve video playback issues some Xbox Live members in Europe are experiencing.
  • Kinect voice and motion improvements will continue to fine tune the quality and reliability of Xbox One commands.
  • Improved GameDVR video quality through compression algorithm improvements.
  • Updates to Xbox One device management to address issues controlling TVs, set top boxes, and receivers that our customers have reported.
  • New audio settings to tune how much volume is lowered when Kinect is used in communications.

Re: The Xbox One Thread

I'd assume that the 50Hz BD support will also apply to 50Hz PAL DVDs - same issue, same app.

For some reason my console was in energy saving mode today so I thought I may of had the update. So I turned it off and then back on 10 mins later and I had the update. :D

I'm still waiting for a release that convinces me to go for the Xbox One (same for PS4). Titanfall is good because of the price drop, the game itself is meh.

The problems still surrounding the XB1 isn't good enough yet and imo a disgrace.

It was WipeOut (And the excellent 2097 afterwards) that made me buy the PS1, PGR for the 360, but so far there's no reason yet to buy the PS4 nor XB1. I can say I'm really disappointed from everything I've seen and heard so far.

I just put mine into Instant-On mode and then turned it off for about 15 minutes. When I turned it back on I had the update. No guarantees but it's really the only way to do it I think.

Are you registered for the firmware preview? If you're then it will come eventually.

---------- Post added at 01:33 ---------- Previous post was at 01:03 ----------

The Xbox One is going to get a Direct X12 update eventually which will hopefully give it a big boost in performance.

What is firmware preview?

cimt 21-03-2014 19:17

Re: The Xbox One Thread

Ah, you won't get it until it's released to the public then. The firmwire preview is basically the 360 beta preview program. On the Xbox One though you only need to sign up once and it puts you in every preview rather than having to always register.

Ok this is getting beyond a joke now.

My NATS is on strict and so I cannot talk in party chat to friends, I have set a static IP on the console and it now says moderate, so how and what ports do I need to open to get the NATS to say open on my Asus RT-N66U Router.

I mean what is the point of spending over £650 on a console when it won't let you talk.

cimt 22-03-2014 01:47

Re: The Xbox One Thread

It should be fine on moderate but this guide should help you.

I bought the media controller, and it can turn the X1 on.

I went to my network setting and NATS was back to strict, now peed off.

so off to open ports then.

For those in the Preview, here are some threads I've made that you may / may not want to bump with your support:

(50Hz is supposedly being fixed in the April update, but technically the release notes only mention Blu-rays and not DVDs, so I've posted about it anyway, especially as the latest 50Hz option currently does nothing)

Feedback section:

50Hz support needed for PAL DVDs

Feature request section:

50Hz support still needed for PAL DVDs

Controller battery level warning still needed

3D Blu-ray support needed

Dolby & DTS bitstream support is seriously flawed for a media player

Media Remote should be able to access DVD/BD menus

Pre-order and pre-load Digital Downloads

Aren't we already able to pre order digital downloads? I did before the console got released

Re: The Xbox One Thread

With all the other fixes so far, I don't think it should have been released here in the state it came. I can't consider one till it's usable out of the box (without the need for all these fixes), that as well as having some decent titles for it, that is at least 'next gen' for starters.

Nor do I not want to see screen tearing and bad frame rate drops from something classed as next gen either. Just not good enough (yet).

What did you pre-order and where from?

You may have been able to pre-order a boxed digital download code, but there was not and is not any ability to pre-order games from the Xbox website or the console's own Store.

MadGamer 28-03-2014 14:00

I was able to pre order from the Xbox store the day before the console released, so the games downloaded as soon as I connected to live

I did that as well. I brought the games from Xbox Store day before Xbox One was released and then i started the download on the Xbox when it was set up. You are unable to do that again at present

Thief is currently 50% off on the digital store via the console at £24.74, is it a good game and worth it? Tomb Raider is on the cheap too.

Re: The Xbox One Thread

Tomb Raider is definitely worth it. I bought it at full price when it came out and loved it.

Thief... Average reviews, IIRC, & I know a few people over at BXB who just found it boring. May not be too bad at half price though...

Question:

Have automatic game/app updates stopped working for anyone else, and if so when did it happen?

System updates still come through automatically for me, but not game/app updates.

I used to boot up and often have notifications about games and apps having been updated, but have not had that in what feels like quite a while now. e.g. I had to manually update Forza 5 and BF4 yesterday because they were not updated automatically.

I'm not sure when it last worked, perhaps before the February system update?

I one a XBOX-ONE and have been on xboxlive for 5 years (just check my gamertag "Ooh im good") I would not bother buying one right now.

The price has dropped a lot, and the trade in price for a XBOX-ONE has dropped form £310 to £280 then £250 and its now at £230. Wait a few months and it will be £299 at xmas.

It was designed for always on and Kinect for everything, Microsft had to change this at the last minute so the whole thing is a dog. So if you really want a XBONE wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then rename the thread 'the Xbox one appreciation' thread. Sorry this thread should be any goes when it comes to the xbox one. Unless you don't like hearing what you already know.

I've already said the Xbox one isn't ready and it's poor to be released here in the state it is. I don't begrudge those that like to get these things on the day they are released, but you have to accept others are laughing or disagree with you (day one buyers) this time around.

I will wait for as long as it takes before I decide which one to buy, the xbox one isn't doing very well at the moment, it doesn't mean I want it fail either. Just very disappointed.

cimt 31-03-2014 06:39

Re: The Xbox One Thread

Well talking about its problems and slating it are both seperate things. We all know it has it's problems. A big one that Matt likes to point out is that for an all-in-one entertainment machine, it's pretty crap in that regard in terms of features. It's actually holding me back from buying some blu-rays which I really want to buy.

We can see the potential of the console but MS screwed it up big time. I'm glad I bought mine even though it does have its issues. I'll also enjoy my PS4 when I eventually get one.

No. It's crap.

What we have in the UK is basic and pointless.

There is, as yet, no date at all for *full* One Guide functionality outside of the US. No date at all for any kind of Sky/VM/Freeview/Freesat listings or other integration.

Previewing System Updates: OneGuide and SmartGlass Updates in More Markets

So in addition what you can do today, we also want to explore some new ideas. That’s why we’re making a range of new features available to select Xbox Live members by invite only in the U.S., Europe, and Canada. Designed to improve the TV experience on Xbox One, the features bring elements of OneGuide to new markets, and they add OneGuide and universal remote control to Xbox SmartGlass.

Those select Xbox Live members will see:
  • An enhanced TV watching experience (that’s already available in the U.S.), which sees TV listings added to OneGuide, alongside Favorites and App Channels. This will work for people in Europe and Canada who have their TV connected to Xbox One via HDMI-in.
  • More control over Xbox One, their TV, and set-top box, including setting new recordings and watching recorded content from their DVR, all from a tablet or smart phone. Xbox SmartGlass also adds a cool new feature to show the most recently-watched channels.
  • New Kinect voice commands in Europe and Canada (already available in the U.S.) which let you control your set-top box and other AV equipment.

I find it funny that the day after MadGamer asked about that MS has released the preview for us :)

I tried it earlier.

Sky listings and basic control work well, apart from the clutter caused by the radio stations.

I tried using SmartGlass and managed to do Live Pause etc. Couldn't get to the Planner, though, despite the video on the Xbox Wire article saying you can access recorded content. Coming later, or just box dependent?
