A few weeks? A few months by the sounds of it, if we're lucky.

I prefer to think of it as some small payback for me subsidising useless SD TV for so many years. SD needs to die.

This is not the first time that this person has tried to imply that those that dont agree that we should be happy to wait are being childish (or similar such sentiments)..... If I choose to take offence I will, to paraphrase devilincarnate him or herself that is my choice.

If we all role over and accept that it is OK to be shafted, then we will continue to be shafted... we should stand up for ourselves and say it is unfair..... Oh hang on I forgot, we british dont do that!!.

If you read my other posts, I accept that a protest probably wont make any difference, and actualy I dont really care too much about HD. BUT it IS unfair and to just say OH well we cant do anything about it continues to perpetuate a general feeling of let them do what they want.

I am paying for this service and I have every right to be ticked off if I am being treated unfairly. I object to being likened to a child just because I am standing up for what I believe in.

**** Addition

I have just read your post that says if people are not happy we should contact Virgin and let them know how we feel.... That has been done with no acceptable outcome (no info about when headend will be upgraded and a flat refusal to reduce subscription for the period that I am not receiving the same service as others).

Yes it is annoying, but really we should be used to it by now.Vm as tv providers are a totally joke and always will be,All they are clearly bothered about is broadband. As for these fools on here telling us to stop moaning they are probably peeps who have been upgraded already and dont care about anybody else,What is happening at the moment regarding promising us hd and then not delivering on there promise is nothing new from vm and will never change. They will never be able to compete will sky whilst the current clueless management are running this cowboy operation,We just after except it or change providers. We are going to end up going thru this cowboy expierience when tivo arrives because true to form vm will cock up again

If you feel like that person is antagonising you on purpose (which I doubt he/she is imo) why don't you report him to a moderator and get it sorted?

Why don't you contact them again and again until you get the result your after or failing that why don't you really stick it to them and move to another provider?

100% agree, go to VM twitter page and post your moaning.

Only a small number will be effected the full 2 months but most will already have access on the 1st or within a month.

Post your moaning to VM and ask them when you will get there service.

End of the day your not paying a penny more for these new services.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

I was disappointed with this announcement too but lets look at the facts.
This has happened because VM are making network improvements. In future we will all be on the same hardware so this shouldn't happen again. It might have been better for VM to announce the new channels as coming in June rather than April but as most will get them in April anyway and we will all have them by June isn't it better to be patient and just enjoy them when they arrive.
BTW my area isn't ngtv yet and I have no idea when it will be.

simple !!!
the broadcast from radio 5 live is direct from the match live.

live match - studio - aired

the broadcast of the match on sky sports on VM comes from the live broadcast via sky giving the lag.

live match - Sky studio - sky aired - VM headend in - VM headend out - aired.

as you can see there is alot more involved in getting the match to your tv than to your radio hence the delay.

Ben B 21-03-2010 00:58

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Plus, unless you have a digital radio, the analogue signal has less lag than digital so that is another factor

You've spotted the secret that no one knows, VM create that lag in time so they can input the subliminal messages into the broadcast.

Have you noticed a sudden increase in liking Virgin? Have you seen photos of Richard Branson and thought, "I think he is a nice guy".

And the most cunning bit, has your sex life improved?

If you've said yes to the first two, and no to the last, you are a product of the subliminal messages from Virgin
(or you are a normal horny guy still who has a healthy respect for life and all the rest that goes with it...which is it?) :)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Ofcom will order Sky to charge rivals close to £10.50 per subscriber to carry its premium channels — about a 20% cut. The regulator believes that Sky has market dominance for top-flight sport, including Premier League football, and first-run Hollywood films. In anticipation of the change, BT and Virgin are preparing a price war that could see them undercut Sky.

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/to...cle7069785.ece

Todays Times, looks like Sky have lost, will we now see SkyHD premium channels??? (crosses fingers)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Well I have just read about the possible delay in the new HD channels. I upgrade to V+ on Tuesday and live in an area which is yet to be switched to the new platform. I would like to think that Virgin expected the network to have been upgraded before the new channels launch otherwise I think their announcements have been somewhat disingenuous but on a positive note at least they are on the way. I was also advised I could have caller ID when I connected but that is another case of 'coming soon' but in their defence they have compensated me.

I am happy with the service overall and look forward to V+ & HD.

Welcome Matt, nice to see another Green on here! We won't talk about yesterdays result though :(

Newton Abbot hasn't been done yet, but everyone is definitely getting ITV1 HD on April 2nd so we'll be fine for the world cup. Hopefully we will not have too long to wait for the other HD channels.

NEWSFLASH: Multiple Cable Forum users' dummies found on a floor in the basement of cyberspace. Virtual reporters report that the cause is unknown bu t could be linked to some users never being happy. Rewards will be given to the first 100 users who pick their dummies up and return them to the pram

At the end of the day (it gets dark!!!) VM are improving their TV platform and eventually it will be easier to roll out new channels and services all at once. For now though until these upgrades to headends etc are complete, we must be patient. VM have always rolled out upgrades over periods of time and whereas you may not be happy with that, it is a fact of life with this company. Look at the 2mb to 10mb upgrades of last year, you are not paying for the upgrade so therefore have no grounds to complain or ask for a refund. Now is there any chance we could get this to a coming soon thread without the grumblings of 'when am I being upgraded?' or 'it's not fair.....'

It would be unfair to those who have been upgraded if VM waited until it was all done before launching the new channels. May as well let those who can watch them now that they've signed made the deals and have space to broadcast them.

How is this any different to the staggered rollouts of 10meg, 20meg, 50meg, and what is bound to be a staggered rollout of 100meg?

Waiting till "everyone is upgraded" is just stupid. There's still analogue areas left on the network, shall we wait for them to be upgraded too? We should if we're working on the no man left behind philosophy!

(And this is someone who hasn't been upgraded yet).

Actually, the no man left behind is what is happening. VM are still fighting on all fronts (using war analogy) but won't forget the wounded left behind (we'll come back for you, non-NGTV yet people) or the dead (sky customers).

That makes Virgin the USA, SKY the Germans, and cable forum the people reminding us about the geneva convention

I guess I am one of the civilians, dodging the bullets, trying to decide who is going to win whilst selling my onions :)

I have seen all the comments about those of us who might not get the new HD channels on April1/2. I was initially annoyed but on reflection I think I can wait a bit longer if necessary. What is a PR cock up is not saying from the start, when announcing the new channels, that it would be a phased launch due to "technical improvements being carried out".

What are you hoping to achieve? VM can't do the upgrades any faster and all you'll do is wind yourself up. By all means complain if you wish, but don't think it will change anything.

They are providing the HD channels as a free add on, so you are unlikely to get anything out of them.

Yes, it is a shame that we wont have them launched and if I am honest I am a bit annoyed about it but I know that I will definitely get them eventually so it isn't a huge deal as there is no difference in price per month and will just have to continue to make do with upscaled content via the V+ for now. Can still see the programmes just in 4x less detail.

regardless of the fact the channels are free do you think VM would get away with doing this in the US without some big stink kicking off ?? personally i dont thing so.

the reason this sort of thing happens is because us Brits have the "take it on the chin with a stiff upper lip" attitude.

no why would this sort of crap happen in US.

Blah, can we shift all the we hate VM for not giving us NGTV and other posts to do with NGTV to another thread cause it's clogging up this thread. The NGTV switch will mean that we will have the same line up so this wont happen again.

I wouldn't bet on that, just last week I was listening to the Engadget HD podcast where they mentioned that one of the Satellite providers launched a bunch of new HD channel but on those of the west cost could get them, customers in the east cost had to buy a second dish.

I totally agree with you,The all situation is a total shambles.Vm`s PR team are a disgrace,To come out an announce all these new channels at the same time sky are offering free HD boxes and then less than 2 weeks b4 launch now say that half there customers are now not getting them and could be waiting till nearly june is a joke.Surely this is false advertising and would be interested to hear what ofcom thought of this,I know several people who have cancelled with sky due to the first annoucement and are very annoyed now that the channels promised are not going to be delivered as first stated .
Its all well and good people saying we have waiting so long so another month or so is no hardship,Surely this does not make it right.

Do you really think that VM wanted some customers left without the HD channels? The NGTV upgrades started in November (and they were planned months before), they agreed deals for the HD channels in Feb/March.. NGTV started before the new HD channels, therefore it was unavoidable.

You are getting the channels, but they are part of the NGTV rollout now. As I've said earlier.. what would be the point of upgrading a headend, just to switch it off a few weeks later? They'd waste more money that could be used on the network or for more HD deals. :)

They should have put it in the first announcement, yes. The majority will get the channels well before June.

I agree with your opening statement, but it would be literally impossible for Virgin to launch the channels for everyone, even those not on the new headend. Yes, it's annoying if your area hasn't been upgraded yet, but there isn't really a great deal of cause for complaint.

But this is important. You are right this is a "comming to VM" thread. The whole issue for some of us is that it is comming soon to VM for some but later for others. The whole point of this thread is to let people know what they should be getting and when. It is perfectly fair for individuals to say "hang on you might be getting it but I am not". That is what sharing information is all about. Just because some people dont like that others are sharing their thoughts on when new channels are comming to THEIR vm doesent mean that it is not acceptable for them to express their opinions. This thread should continue to refelct the disfatisfaction of those of us that feel that we are not receiving what we should from VM - just as it should also reflect the opinions of those that feel that we are being un-necessarialy over-reactive about it. That is what democracy is.

No, another thread should discuss these issues, cause if MB was to post something that was coming soon at the minute other than these HD channels, then the post would get lost in all the bitching about not having NGTV. Please, someone just create a new thread to clean up this thread.

I don't see what the big fuss is about. The content on the "new" channels is already available to everyone. I'd understand if it was a bunch of new content providing channels but it isn't. If you think SD is absolutely useless, what have you been watching for the past 50 years? Nothing?

the broadcast from radio 5 live is direct from the match live.

live match - studio - aired

the broadcast of the match on sky sports on VM comes from the live broadcast via sky giving the lag.

live match - Sky studio - sky aired - VM headend in - VM headend out - aired.

as you can see there is alot more involved in getting the match to your tv than to your radio hence the delay.

Ah thank man clear as mud!!! ;) One thing I'm wating for is Sky Sports HD Channel to come on Virgin Media any idea when it comming. :erm:

To describe it as "bitching" is to trivialise the level of feeling that people have about this issue.

The fact that so many people have reacted to this demonstrates that there is strong feeling about this. I sincerely hope that those people that feel that we should just let it happen without protest (legitimate as those sentiments are) wont bury those of us that feel that we shouldnt just shut-up about feeling hard done by. I might disagree with "you" (meant genericaly) but I really do respect the fact that you are entitled to your opinion. I just feel that we are also entitled to ours. This is about what is "comming soon" to VM, what better place to say "but not to everybody".... As I have said previously all I want is to be treated fairly..... I know that the "roll out" wont happen similtunasoly for everybody, But those of us that dont recieve the same service as others shouldnt have to pay the same as others. I agree the HD channels should be realsed as quickly as possible for those that can recieve them. But if I cant get the channels I shouldnt have to pay for them. And before people start quoting "these are free channels so you cant complain" they are NOT free channels - If I stopped paying VM my subscription I wouldnt get ANY of the channels. I pay well over £1000 per year for my services, if I am going toget a lesser service than others paying the same or less I think I am entitled to be slightly ticked off.

I have said before and I will say again, I am really not bothered about the HD channels, what I am bothered about is that VM dont care about me as a cutomer enought to treat me fairly.

I wouldnt dream of going back to SKY (heaven forbid!!) I am happy with the quality of service I get from VM, I love the BB I get, BUT that doesent mean that I think that to announce new HD channels without mentioning that we wont all get them is fair.... If I cant get it I want a reduced fee for the time I cant get it. Not much - even if it was only a couple of pounds I would at least feel that I was being treated with fairenss..... Yes I konw that sounds like I have thrown my dummy out of the pram (to quote another poster) but actually I believe in standing up for what I believe even though you might not agree with me, it is not trivial..........

This is my first post after many years as a Virgin (Blueyonder) customer.
I just have to say that living in Birmingham I am not happy. If it is anything like the roll out of the BB roll out we will be last.
I am hoping that they will put the start of V from SF HD on demand in HD for those of us that have to wait till June like they did for True Blood when they added FX HD.
But one thing I can't understand is If SF HD is replacing Diva Why is it not across the whole network.
Also we had an update about week ago, SW 4.01, does that have anything to do with NGTV. Thanks in advance.

Hang on there is some irony going on now, if Virgin weren't thinking of the customer then NGTV would not exist and the dirty freeloaders would still exist in Leeds and the like. However because Virgin are determined to get rid of the thieving gimps, they had to implement NGTV which takes time. NGTV also helps pave the way for getting IPTV rolled out (yes I know I said rolled out). So just because you can't get a few channels in the short term, in the long term these essential updates WILL benefit all of us. Up untill a few weeks ago there was a greater imbalance between what people could/couldn't get owing to the great telewest/ntl divide. People whined about that and now that it is being integrated people are still whining. Quit it will you!!! Yes you are entitled to your opinions but surely you aren't narrow minded enought to think these changes arent for the greater good and once complete we will have an altogether much better service. Think of the population who can't even get Virgin TV and owing to planning constraints can't get satellite either. They don't have a choice and are stuck with freeview. Now I know they dont pay for that service but that doesn't stop them being gutted that they cant have oodles of HD and the like. At least we have a choice of which TV service to use.

This is the coming soon to Virgin TV (2010) thread isnt it? If so then all be it in June 2010 the channels are coming in 2010. therefore case closed they are coming soon in 2010 and that is all we need to know. Stop winging <-----This paragraph doesn't quite make sense, can someone help me here? (I'm trying to say please can we get back on topic)

Virgin Media hope to launch E4 HD, SciFi HD, Discovery HD, Eurosport HD and ITV1 HD (Not in Scotland or Ireland) in all areas of Virgin Media by the end of this month. (Source Post 1)

Is this because the NGTV upgrade isn't necessary or because they expect it to be finished by then? Great news if it is true.

Virgin WILL launch all the listed HD Channels in areas of Virgin Media who has joined NGTV (Viewers will see BBC London on Channel 937) in April but all non NGTV Headend will not see the listed HD Channels until Virgin update that Headend - and Virgin hope to do this by the end of June.
