Its typical of Wiley to give silly decisions, and its not just sour grapes, the ground was very poor and was cutting up badly, and some of the decisions that Wiley was making were bad, Spurs should have had a penalty when the ball clearly touched the Pompey players hand, and then on the disallowed goal, that was a very bad decision.

All l hope now is that Spurs get into Europe, BUT, as l have said before, Officials have to go back to training school, Its like Aston Villa, the ref, bottled it on the nasty John Terry foul, Terry does it all the time and gets away with.

Spurs v Portsmouth

Yes there were bad decisions by officials and the pitch was shocking but if a team have 20 odd shots and still don't score in 2 hours of football then they do not deserve to win.

And I'm a Spurs fan!

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

What a damn cheek Portsmouth have, first of all they permission to sell players outside the deadline, and now they wanty special permission to get a licence to play in Europe, they went into Admin, becuase they have serious debt and couldn't control it, There are other clubs in a debt problem, you cannot have one rule for them and one rule for others.

And as for Tottenhams performance, the chances that Crouch had, he should have been taken off early, and Defoe should not have played, he has just come back from injury and wasn't macth fit, Harry should have had Pav and Gerjosen on to start, they would have put the chances away.

Will Spurs get into Europe, l don't know now, they have Arsenal, Chesea and United and they are three tough games. And we are now chasing City.

*Grumble* Good goal though. Think Spurs might win this to be honest, Unless Arsenal stop messing around on the outskirts of the box, where's the final ball already.

What a game.

And a 19 and a 20 year old have scored against 2 centre backs with a combined age of 69. So its not just Arsenal that put kids in their teams

I think Bale's goal is the best part about tonight. He's done so well for us lately with amazing performances, so many assists and decent crosses. He deserves a goal for all he's done.

Van Persie's performance made me see just how much we missed him. Wenger needs to get better covering defenders, nothing they could do about the first but the second was poor defending.

Gomes' saves were amazing. The one against the free-kick, the one against Campbell's header was the best, and Persie's twist and kick.

Fixed! There were great saves. Any other keeper and this game would have been a draw.

---------- Post added at 22:28 ---------- Previous post was at 22:20 ----------

Grrr I hate the questions they ask Wenger. They blatantly trying to get a soundbite which will be all over the papers. "Is it Impossible to win the Title"? Because they know it's not impossible just very unlikely but they want to paint him as the deluded fool who thinks he will win the title.

And WHAT ON EARTH is going on on the physio department?! Vermaelen out for 2 - 3 weeks!? Gallas out for the rest of the season, Fabagas out for the rest of the season, Song out for the next few games, Arshavin the same! Joke.

Wenger. New defenders. One to replace Gallas if he leaves (or to replace him full stop) and some cover. Get a new keeper as well. The defending this season has been a joke, we have (imo) the best midfield in the Premiership so we dominate the play but then fail to score and sure enough concede.

Given the impact Persie had I am full of what if considerations. Those last 10 minutes were the best we play for ages but it was too late for the game and his return too late for the season.

Eboue and Diaby on the other hand. Very inconsistent players. Nasri was good but failed to find space opening up as the other players sat there. We needed Arshavin to make a killer run or Fabagas to make a killer pass. I wonder if Wenger was thinking he would have started Persie...

Damn you Arsenal you could have done us a massive favour last night, now we`ll have to rely on Chelsea and/or Man Utd, because i can`t see City winning every game until the end of the season. Typical Blues fan, allways skeptical :D

As for player of the year, even though i`m a City fan and think Tevez deserves all the recent praise he`s had i still think Rooney has been the best of the best this year. The games Man Utd have played without him have showed how much he brings to the team as a whole.

Was it just me or did Arsenal seem a bit lightweight last night, as if the spurs midfield could just use a bit of upper body weight to ease the Arsenal guys off the ball. Until van Persie came on anyway, then the players seemed to wan`t to keep the ball as they knew he would be making runs, getting into scoring positions!
Maybe one player does have the ability to change the way a whole team plays and their mindset towards a game.

Presidential elections. Arsenal get this treatment from Barcelona every year for a certain midfielder we have. There is also speculation Arshavin is after a move to either of the giants (not sure which, he won't get in the Barca squad however good he is, it's just won't work!).

£90 million though? I would have to accept that Arsenal would take that for Fabagas. Rooney is well, Rooney but I not sure he is worth more than the quality £90 million would bring in! (If Ferguson was allowed access to the cash anyway).

Still not gonna happen.

And yet you have stupid clubs offering stupid transfer like £250.000 per week for Rooney, what a waste of money, NO ONE IS WORTH THAT SORT OF MONEY, and look at John Terry at Chelsea, he is on £150.000 per week, it really annoys me that clubs are in dire straights, and yet this is allowed to continue.

Well Obviously but it's kind of a tall order, 7 points behind with 4 games to go. A maximum of 12 points. I'll worry if Arsenal lose tomorrow but if we win then it's pretty much safe (and you would still need to go to Manchester twice).

Well now Spurs can take 3rd and good luck to them. Pathetic, Absolutely Pathetic. There is no excuse for that shocking display, Wigan played for the full 94 mintues. Arsenal played for 60. I was not comfortable with the 2 - 0 lead because they gave up trying, Wigan were first to every ball, they robbed the ball so easily from Arsenal. Diaby and Rosicky were awful and consistently giving the ball away. None of them see to care, just wave after wave of Wigan attacks and they didn't change anything.

It's unbelievably awful, worst performance I have seen this season, hopefully we can cling onto a top 4 space and secure Champions League football. Then Wenger needs to bring in 2 new defenders, and a new goalkeeper.

I was listening to Talksport, and some Arsenal fans want Wenger sacked, they had Persie on the bench and didn't use him until the 90th minute. Whats the whole point, total waste of time.

Spurs squad built for around £80 million. Arsenal's squad built for around £30 million. Moved to new Stadium and maintained up four position. Wenger is not going to be sacked.

I think get rid of Fabianski... what a muppet is he? why oh why do we play him think Manone is way better then him.
What we need to replace is deffo a new top class keeper, and 2 new defenders everything else we are good enough in, or perhaps another striker for when van Persie is out and why didnt Wenger play him?

I was aghast at the decision not to play him considering how much better Arsenal looked against Spurs with his introduction. It's worth bearing in mind that a large amount of first team players, and their back-ups were out of the game. Wenger probably didn't want to risk Van Persie considering the risk he took with Gallas and Fabagas against Barcelona which ended their seasons.

Arsenal don't need as many players as I think people make out, for a start it's unlikely will we have so many players out at once again like we did for the run in but despite that crisis we still had a strong midfield. So I don't think we need any more depth there, especially with Ramsay and Wilshire being back next season.

In Attack we have Persie and Bendtner, and probably Chamakh soon.

It's defence where we need to buy players. A new defender especially if Gallas goes AND a new defender to cover for when any of the current lot are gone. Obviously a new keeper.

Matty_ 18-04-2010 18:36

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

I think this result highlights the difference of when teams have something to play for and when they don`t. Any team challenging for whatever that may be would much rather be playing a mid table safe team than one that could still end up in trouble (or just needs points to confirm safety)

Well done to Wigan, what a rubbish weekend to be a City fan :(

DocDutch 18-04-2010 18:45

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

the 2 new defenders is mainly to replace the grannies of the team ie Campbell and Sylvestre and to provide cover for when the others are injured. but I agree with what you are saying Damien, the team is big enough in itself. oh tbh wouldnt mind to get rid of Bendtner either now we have (hopefully) Chamakh coming in.

To be honest i think it was a poor derby match, neither keeper had much to do and both teams could have nicked a goal here or there. The result didn`t really matter as much to us (or so we thought) as most thought Chelsea would beat Tottenham. Taking the positives out of it, if Utd had lost or drawn maybe they wouldn`t have had the incentive to beat spurs when they play them soon, now they now it`s a must win game which is a plus for us.
It`s like when Liverpool host Chelsea, can you see the Liverpool players giving it 100% to win the match?
I can`t, i reckon most will just put enough in as to make it not obvious but so that Chelsea win. For City it now all comes down to the home game against spurs, which i have a bad feeling we`ll lose

Fully agree with you Damien, i thought on the night the referee was top notch apart from that one decision (possibly the no1 ref around). Not sure if it influenced the game much though, Bayern looked like they would score at some point but Lyon where absolutely shocking even when it was 11v10.
United must be more gutted that they wen`t out to Bayern, as it looks like a final spot is a formality.
As the commentators said there are quite a few better teams than Lyon allready knocked out.

I've heard the same rumour. Apparenlty its coming from the same person who broke the Terry affair news, so is possibly true...

Shame you can't say who the name of the player is. If only there was a way.

According to a Guardian journalist the story is not true.

I heard Derby County.

I heard this a couple of days ago but didn't repost it because it seems to be too much of a rumour. One or other things maybe, but both simulataneously smacks more of wind-up than coincidence.

If it is a Liverpool player then it must be Torres or Gerrard, none of the others could score in a brothel... :D:p::D

I'm sure if theres any truth in it, it will be on the front page of the news of the world on Sunday. I've been hearing its a rumour that did the rounds a few months ago which makes me think its all made up even more than i did before.

I don't think so much detail about the alleged incidents could be circulating without the press breaking it early. It's not true IMO.

But didn't the same thing happened with the John Terry affair? I thought he had a gagging order on the press until it was taken to court where it was lifted?

It seems really unlikely though, yesterday a Guardian journo posted on Twitter that, from what he has heard, it is untrue.

Nope. We'll be backing United. At least I will. Arsenal's title chances are over. Let's tie up third place.

Its Spurs v United. We all know what's going to happen. Spurs will go 2-0 up before half time. Then United will score 5 or 6 goals in the 2nd half. it always happens.

I'm just lmfao...why is it that the English media is trying to torpedo the England football team just before a worldcup and saying that they are going to win it? Then within a day of losing a game they'll be on them again like voltures saying how crap they are and that they get too much money (okay agree there a bit) and why cant they play better for club then for country?

Just seen this on the BBC text commentary for the United vs Spurs match...

Quote:

1316: How did Man Utd not take the lead? A cross from Nani is missed by Gareth Bale's attempted clearance and Dimitar Berbatov's goalbound eight-yard shot is superbly blocked by Ledley King.
I think the answer is there quite clearly, with the initials DB.

You're right I didn't see it but his name not being on the scoresheet coupled with Giggs being moved in to a striker role during the game gives me the impression he put in his normal "is he on the pitch" performance.

So what else did Donkey achieve on the pitch today other than miss numerous chances and needing to get partnered by a veteran winger in the twilight of his career?

What a shame for Shay Given, the best player for City (in his position) and he goes and gets injured at probably the most crucial time of the season:banghead:
Worst of all is that the replacement looks like he`s just been brought in from some alley in the red light district, hopefully he`s not to bad(He is the Faroe Islands keeper):D

A point away at Arsenal is not a bad result but it might cost us dear, wondering whether i would rather we lost the game and had Given fit for Villa and Spuds!

Speedy recovery Shay :nworthy:

Yes those seasons that have went to the nail biting final day, indeed final minutes, have been particularly tedious

I think a massive well done is due to those bhoys from the east end of Glasgow for securing 2nd place. :bigcry:

Remind me how many teams have won the premiership recently? :)

Yes it gets boring when its between two teams but the way things have gone this season with the 'diddy' teams getting in amongst it, Rangers having no money at all and Celtic doing their bit for care in the community by giving Tony Mowbray a job made it quite interesting.

Yes the split is a crap idea badly implemented but the dogfight for relegation will go to the wire.

Well in the 25 years since the Old firm began their current dominance, there's been 7 different English champions.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

I think that the SFA, needs a major overall, as it is the same each season, and it is getting very boring, its either Celtic or Rangers wining and fighting for the big.

We have some good clubs in Scotland, Hearts, Aberdeen, Motherwell to name a few, but there has to be something done, money has to be put into Scottish football to give clubs a better fighting chance to take on the big guns - and that is only two clubs.

When the TV rights come up, then these companies must offer a better deal, then the multi figure that Sky and ESPN, pays for the PL, what was it that Sky paid nearly a billion over five years, maybe if the two big ones Sky and ESPN made an offer in this region, then Scottish club would get a better deal and football would be better.

England has 10 times the population. So for England to produce as competive a league as we do in Scotland:

Expected different champions: 10 X 2 = 20
Actual different champions: 7

Assumption that EPL is more competitive than SPL = Epic fail :D

Keane will probably be sold (hopefully for the last time) but you're wrong about Gudjohnsen. He already said he wants to stay with Spurs before qualifing for the CL. However Monaco want him back.
